Jul. 6th, 2008 01:48 pmWe ended up going to Holy Island and Seahouses yesterday. Nanna's friend is so cool, they have the kind of friendship you can only have after over 70 years of knowing someone. At times it was like a very interesting history lesson as they chatted about what they did in the war and where their husbands served. It was also like I had two nannas for the day. We stopped at Alnwick for coffee, and both started fretting because I wasn't wearing my coat and it was showering. The fact the cafe was literally over the road from where we parked didn't seem to matter, or the fact that James was only wearing a t-shirt too.
So we drove on after a most delicious mocha, and when we stopped for dinner I got out the car to find Vi pointedly holding my coat open, and then helped me put it on. I was surprised she didn't zip it up and put up my hood too. Then when we were actually eating dinner she asked if I needed my bread buttering, which really, I could manage. She was just this sweetheart and I liked her a lot. It really was a good day even though it rained heavily through most of it.
Today we've been re arranging some stuff in the living room. James and Corey have just gone to the dump so I'm taking a LJ break before they get back. While things are upside down right now it means things are done before James goes into hospital next week. He had his pre op assessment on Friday, so things are a go.
The
mcr4u stories are going live and I haven't had time to read any. This is not on! However, I have things to do first, so Remix for me now :)
ETA: I forgot to say. While at Seahouses James bought me a huge coffee mug. It had all the Aquarius qualities on it, including the words hot and moist on the bottom edge. See, my badfic addiction was destined from birth. It's not my fault!

Date: 2008-07-06 01:06 pm (UTC)I know! It shows that I'm busy when I can't get to a Mikey/Frank story. But still, I can read later when I have my stories finished. That doesn't mean I'm not all want though.

Date: 2008-07-06 01:26 pm (UTC)Making new friends is awesome - obviously - but there's something so, I don't know, comforting with old friends. Like being home whenever you're with them.
The fretting made me smile. I remember when my grandparents - grandmothers and grandfathers alike, actually - would fret over me over too. They were worse than my parents, it always amused me. In a very good way, I mean.
I still hear my grandfather's voice going 'you'll catch your death like this' when he saw a little patch of skin due to pants being a bit low on the hips sometimes. Good memories :-)

I know exactly what you mean. The best friend and I have been friends since infant school, that's nearly 30 years now. Our friendship is like an old comfy slipper.
I think grandparents are made to fuss, and we love them for it :)

Good luck with the rearranging!
I've only read the Gerard/Bob college story (by the same writer who wrote the Mikey-as-a-crime-scientist) so far, it's really good!

Date: 2008-07-06 02:24 pm (UTC)My foot was fine until we ended up walking over cobbles. Then it was aching again, and is so today. But nowhere near as bad as last week so I think it'll be okay.
I want to read! But if I do my afternoon will be gone and I have stuff to do. Oh well, it'll be a nice reward for when I'm done.
