May. 24th, 2010 04:42 pmMy living room is about 99% done and looking kind of great if I do say so myself. I need to finish emptying the last box and then I'll share some pictures. The only bad thing is one of the ceiling lights has had to be turned off due to it still popping the fuses. James' electrician friends came to check it out yesterday and hours later it was discovered a nail had been hammered into the wire going from the light switch. I couldn't remember if it was me or Corey that had hung that picture but on reflection, it was my bad. Considering what the electrician friends said and how the nail is burnt black at the tip it's lucky I didn't get a shock, so a non-working light is no big deal, especially as we have wall lights.
The carpet though, oh it looks good. James doesn't take his shoes off so I told him he had to wear slip on booties like the crime scene people do. A suggestion that didn't go over that well. It took a ridiculous amount of time to get all the furniture out and pull up the old carpet. I'm sure anyone fit and strong could have done it in an hour or so, I'm neither so it took me ages, though I was quite handy with the knife by the end. Hauling the furniture around though, if I never have to move the fish tank again it'll be too soon. I did laugh when the carpet fitters arrived on Friday. Well eventually I did. Everything had to be out of the room except for my desk and the couches, so on Friday I was sitting in a totally bare room, no TV, my computer packed up and unable to use the wireless as it had been disconnected. Then they called and said the fitters wouldn't arrive until sometime in the afternoon. So we connected the wireless again and I quickly downloaded some TV onto James' laptop. Which is why when the fitters eventually arrived I ended up sitting in a small gap in my kitchen watching Criminal Minds.
If you've seen the show Hoarders it reminded me of that. The kitchen was so full of stuff that there was one clear channel to get to the back door so when the fitters arrived I shoved the pouffe into that space, the dishwasher on one side, the bookshelves at the other, the door at my back and boxes inches from my feet. It was quite comfortable really, the Eeee on the counter and cocooned with stuff. I just hoped that I didn't need the bathroom because there was no way to get out.
James and Corey are off to France with the Scouts on Friday so we spent some of the weekend getting Corey some new shoes, clothes and new speedos considering he 'lost' his last year. He also asked for a pair of fingerless gloves and has been wearing them ever since, even though it's been stupidly hot. And yes, this is when many people will shake their heads at what I think is hot. But I'm English, complaining about the weather is what we do. And it was too hot. Added to that when we went to the beach yesterday half of the north east had done the same and there were queues everywhere. Also much pasty white flesh on show.
I made salsa yesterday and hmmmm, it was good. It was the first time I'd tried but I figured it was hard to go wrong with salsa, so now I have a big tub sitting in the fridge. Unfortunately we're out of actual salad so we're going to grab some of that when James finished work. Veggie burgers, salad and salsa for tea. Awesome.
We also did the usual visit to nanna yesterday. Where I was told by my uncle that the diet coke I was drinking was poison. He's got issues with his stomach lining and his doctor told him that he shouldn't drink it, which is fair enough. If it hurts him he shouldn't drink it. But I wanted to drink my icy coke without being told it was poisonous.
A lot of rabbiting on there for what can be condensed to, I've been busy lately and am playing catch up with LJ/DW/email yet again. I did see that the Camp Sparkle Five word story has been posted. Each year at CS we have a pink book, and the plan is to produce a story by each new person adding five words. We've done this four years running and each time the stories end up insane. Insane, confusing, and with a disturbing amount of death, bestiality, sparkly things, sex toys and zombies. I don't even know, man. It's Camp Sparkle, I just go with it.

Date: 2010-05-24 05:19 pm (UTC)Your little nest in the kitchen sounds quite nice and comfy.
Fingerless gloves are COOL so of course he can wear them despite the heat ;-D
I've got the five words story open in another tab. The beginning sounds suprisingly understandable, I wonder how long that will last... You forgot to mention the ducks! Or should that be DUCK? He was very important for the story!

Date: 2010-05-25 05:23 pm (UTC)My little nest was very comfy, it was a good place to spend a few hours.
He hasn't had the fingerless gloves off since he bought them. I'm assuming they come off at school but they're on for sure on the walk there.
The five word story actually has a vague plot. Very vague and slightly deranged, but at least people tried.

Date: 2010-05-24 05:09 pm (UTC)I could so be on Hoarders too, with everything stacked together. But my parents are the real hoarding kings (or well, my mother is).

Date: 2010-05-24 09:24 pm (UTC)You love it. Admit it!
I hate everything that has to do with moving furniture around, disassembling and assembling, packing up things, etc. Next time I'm moving, I'm so paying someone else to do that.

Date: 2010-05-25 07:43 am (UTC)Busted! *g*
Moving furniture sucks. Getting someone to do it sounds like a much better option.

Date: 2010-05-25 07:45 am (UTC)Some of the houses on Hoarders are insane. I was itching to get my stuff back and have actual space. Hopefully you'll have that soon, too.
