Mar. 9th, 2011 11:19 amYesterday I read this Mikey/Ryan fic, and it was so good and made me so happy, but I don't understand why there's not so much more of the pairing out there. I don't get it people!
:| |: Which is my not-so-secret Mikey/Ryan sign and not a plant stalk, or a scar with stitches. I should start using it always, brainwash people into the perfectness of the pairing. I mean, come on. You can't tell me that

Catching up on rl a little. James' work friend died in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was only young, and had told James on the Friday that he wasn't feeling well. Went home, was talking to people on Facebook at 11:30, and was dead by 2. It hit James really hard as they've been good friends for a long time. That same day James ended up taking a friend and her young daughter to the ER after she fell and cut her head, so was at the hospital until the early hours. Then on the Sunday we were out shopping when the SiL phoned and needed a lift to take our nephew to the emergency doctor. Since then there's been no more medical issues, so hopefully it'll stay that way.
We've started making plans for our garden. If you weren't around then, last year was the first year we've attempted to grow vegetables, and it went okay and was something we enjoyed. Our garden is small, and made even smaller by both being on a corner and having a brick outhouse in the middle of it, so we only have a small patch to use, which is why we have a container garden and small plastic greenhouses. Though this year we're planning on spending a little more and buying a bigger greenhouse made of more durable plastic as the ones we had last year were destroyed over winter. All the containers we have are recycled, buckets from the flower shop, old deep drawers and the recycling boxes we had before we got given the wheelie bins instead, and this season we intend to use Corey's old toy chest as it's big and deep. There's also two huge plastic tub/bucket things that will be perfect for potatoes. It's still a little cold for planting yet, but soon \o/
Today I have stuff to do but also intend some writing as I've been slacking big time. I haven't even looked at my gdocs for ages.
But I have red grapes, coffee and an icy cold Pepsi Max. I'm all set and ready to go. After I clean the litter box /o\

Date: 2011-03-09 04:25 pm (UTC)Adorable dorks!!!
I feel so sad for James. It's terrible when young people die suddenly like that.
It was so much fun to read about your gardening adventures last year and I'm really looking forward to hearing about your grand plans and their results this year. Hopefully it will be a nicely sunny and not too dry summer so that everything you plant will flourish. Are you going to try anything new and exciting?
Yes, you better get on with your writing, young lady! You're not allowed to drop out of BBB this year *tries to look stern but encouraging*

Date: 2011-03-09 05:21 pm (UTC)You can hang your containers on the walls for extra gardening space, for tomatoes at the very least.

Date: 2011-03-09 08:10 pm (UTC)That's a good idea, we do have lots of wall to use. Last year we were thinking about strawberries in hanging containers but they seem to be a lot of effort for very little produce.

Date: 2011-03-09 08:37 pm (UTC)Yeah, it is sad. Though happily he's been given time off for the funeral. His new work have been amazing so far.
I'm glad people do like our gardening adventures. They're very much trial and error. Well, we're thinking of trying potatoes. Which is funny as nanna was just saying recently to my uncle she wanted to buy a special bag where you could buy and grow potatoes, and he told her that it's just as cheap to buy them. And he's right, but at the same time, things taste so much better when you grow them yourself.
Other than that. Lots of tomatoes and peppers as we eat loads of them. Courgette for sure, carrots and beets and cucumbers.
We'll give lettuce another go even though they didn't grow well at all for some reason. But strawberries, mushrooms and aubergines were more trouble than they were worth.
Also, maybe more flowers than the few pots we had.
I know! I'm going to write!

Date: 2011-03-09 09:04 pm (UTC)I totally agree that there is nothing quite like new potatoes just dug up from your own (or in my case, my aunt's) garden.
Maybe you could try a different variety of lettuce and see if that will grow better? I've been thinking of maybe trying out one of those bags of mixed lettuce seeds you can buy in the stores here. Last year the only kitchen stuff I grew was herbs. I really prefer to grow flowers but a pot or two of lettuce might be nice to have.
You better!

Date: 2011-03-09 09:15 pm (UTC)I think I will because we do eat a lot of lettuce but not enough that it doesn't wilt a little before being eaten completely. Really I don't know why it didn't grow. It's supposed to be one of the easiest crops.
I think you should try that. They should grow nicely on your balcony.

Date: 2011-03-10 02:23 pm (UTC)I'm catching up in reverse order here, so--new job? And it sounds like his new job is awesome? That's so excellent, I'm so happy for both of you!

Date: 2011-03-10 05:19 pm (UTC)Yeah, he starts work answering 999 calls on Monday, so I've spent the last few weeks listening to him revising medical matters. The place he's going to has been fantastic, especially keeping the job open until he was well enough to actually take it on.
I hope things have been going okay for you and yours ♥

Date: 2011-03-10 11:09 pm (UTC)(we didn't get our potatoes planted early enough last year, but the basic idea of using an old bin was, I think, sound.)

Date: 2011-03-11 06:48 am (UTC)Your garden plans sounds delightful though. The next question will be, which plants will woo which others this year?

Date: 2011-03-15 09:51 pm (UTC)An old bin for potatoes makes sense to me. I wish we had the space to actually have a vegetable patch but we really don't. So, making do it is.

Hee! I'm hoping Pete and Mikey carrot will rub fronds again.

Date: 2011-03-09 11:44 am (UTC)Oh man, I will listen forever to that type of story.
But if all the others are there anyway who's going to swoop in and rescue him? Gabe? Pete? William? Bob? Alicia? All of the above?

Date: 2011-03-09 12:22 pm (UTC)(I'd rather hook everyone up with Spencer).
Glad to hear there have been no more emergencies/deaths. Hopefully things get back to an even keel. Still, my heart goes out to James.
Write like a demon! One of us should be doing so. Work is killing my writing mojo.

Date: 2011-03-09 12:49 pm (UTC)Also, I wouldn't say no to that either. Especially a continuation of the Spencer teaching Mikey drumming idea from way back when.
James was talking to his friend's wife and she's told him he can go and pay his respects at the funeral home if he can't get the time off for the funeral. He's not keen, and I can't say I blame him.
I haven't written a word, or done anything productive. In fact, all I've managed to do is heat up some chicken and sweetcorn soup for dinner.

Date: 2011-03-09 02:14 pm (UTC)I love the way you garden. We have a big yard and lots of room to grow vegetables and it's wonderful, but the way you improvise and us the space you have is remarkable.

Date: 2011-03-09 04:50 pm (UTC)But yay for the soon-to-be vegetable garden! I have to say that I loved following the development last year, I can't wait to see how this year turns out \o/

Date: 2011-03-09 04:50 pm (UTC)Re: Mikey and Ryan-- I've never read that pairing, but I can so imagine it! They meet through Pete, of course, and can bond over crushing on him. Ryan in a "I still &hearts him so much" way, and Mikey in a "It takes a while to get over him, but being his friend is so worth it, let me take you under my wing" way.
. . . I have way too much imagination sometimes. ;)
