There's a WIP meme going around. Have a sentence from the story I have open right now.

"Oh my god, Ray," Frank hisses, appearing in the doorway looking hot and sweaty, a strand of blue hair sticking to his forehead. "Don't talk about my sex life with Mikey's brother."

Another meme I saw yesterday, sadly I've lost the actual rules, but they were along the lines of list five of your own stories that you love the most. Not the five best, but the ones that mean something to you. Because I am apparently shameless and also procrastinating like crazy at the moment ---

My five, in posted order.

When Day is Night Alone -- I still don't know where this story came from, it just did. One minute I was talking to Arsenic about how I wanted to write something for Mouse, the next I was knee deep in a story that just kept growing. Not so long back I was always saying how I didn't know if I was capable of writing something long and plotty, plus I worried about writing Panic in a believable way. I think this story shows I can do both.

Sound Tracking -- My Bob centric space AU. Oh how I love this story. I love space stories anyway, I grew on sci-fi and think space exploration is the greatest thing ever. This was my first real attempt at complex world building and I love how it turned out. At times I was tearing my hair out trying to get it right -- seriously, thinking about the planet rescue scene still makes a shiver go down my spine, but the results are worth it.

Tints of Rainbow Hue -- Out of everything I've written in bandom this is the verse that's the most vivid to me. It's such a visual story and in my mind I can see it clearly. I'm a little in love with every single person in this story.

Always Known -- While I really like trickyfish, I was always wary about writing it because there seemed to be a rule that Lance had to be snarky. Which seemed such a hard thing to write, I mean, disalogue is hard enough anyway with added snark. I re-read this recently, and I still like it a lot.

Boxes -- Oh man, this story. I wrote it way back when I first started writing popslash. It was done as a WIP, a part posted on my journal every day, and it was such an amazing time. I'd never do that again, not for a long story, but back then I had a blast. I think I'm a better writer now, but I'll always love this story. Especially as it introduced me to so many amazing friends, people who are still around now.

Now you. Tell me your most loved five.

Hee!

I love all those stories, too! Well, except for Always Known which I don't think I've ever read. I should change that!

And Boxes, whee! I know I didn't friend you for this story because I totally remember realizing that you were the author of that story I wanted to rec for my Advent Calendar back in its first year and I was glad that we'd just friended each other so that you would actually see the rec. Hee!
Also man, that was forever ago! Holy crap!

Dude, are you saying you haven't read, taken notes and memorised everything I've written? For shame!

It is forever ago. It's scary when I think just how long it's been. And I remember seeing the rec so vividly <3

You have some great stories to love. ♥ Tints!verse and Sound Tracking are two of my favorites.

Let's see.

I think my favorites, based on writing experience, achieving what I was trying to tell, and enjoyment of rereading the stories, would be:

I Got 99 Problems
Love, Beauty, Silence, Death
Just Stop and Take a Second
What Dreams May Come
Classic II

Sound Tracking is one of my absolute favorites - it's so, so good! There aren't many MCR AU fic out there there are from Bob's POV, which makes that fic but rare and fine. :) You're right about Tints'Verse - it's so brightly-colored and full of sunshine. Even though there's hardship and serious issues woven into that series, it's the optimism and strength/power of family that shines brightest throughout. And When Day is Night Alone... UGH. There are so many excellent characterizations and incredible, complex relationships woven into that piece! Thumbs up, all around!

From my pockets... well, last time I did this meme [also prompted by yourself, surprise, surprise ;D], I answered thus. How has that changed over a year? Well, I'd have to add the Expressions 'Verse poems - that's the first time I've ever directly used poetry to help build a 'Verse, and I really love these pieces. and I'm totally counting those as a single entry, because they lock together so closely [and because I can. :)] I'd also have to add Mother Mary Sings To Me to the list as well. I'm very proud of that poem; I'd wanted to do an in-depth early season Dean character study for a while, but that poem was a long time in coming. Apparently all I needed was the right inspiration. :)

So... It would go:
Expressions 'verse work
Mother Mary Sings to Me
Postcards-Coyote
Shrapnel
Foolscap
[In no particular order.]

But really? I wouldn't really want to knock Slash and Burn and Cadenza off the list, as I still love *them* too.

Fic-wise... well,I really have more pieces than completed work. however - I really love the Ray and Gerard character studies I did for Pedestrian Wolves and this Bob section is my favorite from the posted Traveling Show work.

Ugh. I prolly should have posted this in my LJ,eh? Sorry Terri.

How about a paragraph's worth of 'Triage' for the WiP meme as an apology?

The first time he pulls on the Black Parade jacket, Matt has to go and find a corner to hide, and put his head on his knees. It doesn't fit right, pulling at the shoulder seams, wrapping strangely around his wrists. The black fabric is heavy, scent of sweat and the more familiar blend of menthol and gel, the faded green of thick salve all there, weaving their way up the more he moved and his own body heat woke aromatic ghosts from the threads. It was calming, being wrapped up in that scent- Matt remembered long hours, hidden in shadows or crammed in a venue's storage closet, his fingers slippery with blood and antibiotic gel, setting another row of stitches in Mikey's arm. Sometimes he felt like a groove had worn into his thumb and forefinger, the exact width of a needle.

You're always so wonderfully complimentary about my stories. Thank you! ♥

I always enjoy hearing about your poetry. How much you love it is threaded through every word, and I think that's amazing.

Those are great picks for the fic, too. Your characters studies are always amazing.

While there was no apology needed in the slightest, I'd never say no to a sneak peek, and this is a most delicious one.

You know what I like, that's for sure.

You do make it pretty easy, Terri, with the excellent writing and all. But you're welcome. :D :D

Thank you for saying that. I try to rein in the hand-waving about why work makes me happy, so feel like I'm mostly vague and general.

I appreciate hearing that you enjoy the character studies. I really enjoy doing them, but worry that they bore other people.

Yeah, I figured that if anyone was going to appreciate clandestine tour suturing, featuring Mikeyway, it would be you. :D

In conclusion: Mikeyway!

sound tracking was your first story i've read - so creepy, and desperate, and tightly plotted, and gerard, oh gerard. but tints of rainbow hue is somehow most... vivid? so vibrantly green on one side and so terrifying truthful about depression and tiredness and struggling. love it the most ♥

I think if I were pushed I'd pick Tints as my favourite of all, and the fact you say that about it having two sides is awesome, because from the start I wanted it to be a story about contrasts.

I love both Sound Tracking and Tints of Rainbow Hue so much. I seriously think they're the best stories you've ever written, Sound for the storyline and the worldbuilding and Tints for the psychological insight and again for the worldbuilding. Always Known is also a great story but it's much lighter and fluffier.

I knew I forgot something! The blue hair is a dead giveaway, you're totally writing the Tints coda, aren't you?

I agree, Always Known is much lighter. It's interesting because there is a difference between what I wrote in popslash and what I'm writing for bandom. I still do write fluff, but the longer stuff tends towards the more serious.

I am, though coda may be the wrong description.

In context.

"I'm okay." Gerard's hesitated too long and he can see the sympathy in Ray's expression, the way he's searching for the right thing to say. Impulsively, needing Ray to think of anything but how pathetic Gerard actually is, he says, "I'm thinking of moving out of the basement."

"Yeah?" Ray says. "You're thinking of moving up next to Mikey?"

"Maybe." Truthfully Gerard hasn't given it much actual thought. Apart from the vague idea that it's one of the things he should do, because people his age don't live in basements, especially when there are perfectly good bedrooms upstairs. "Or in my parents old room, I don't know if I want to share a wall."

"I don't blame you." Ray shudders, looking pained. "That time I found them in the back of the van, the poor plants, the yew tree was never the same."

"Oh my god, Ray," Frank hisses, appearing in the doorway looking hot and sweaty, a strand of blue hair sticking to his forehead. "Don't talk about my sex life with Mikey's brother."

"Serves you fucking right," Bob says, pushing his way past Frank. "Now you know how I feel."

Frank frowns. "You're not related to me, and anyway, I tell you that shit so you don't forget what sex is. I'm doing you a favour."

"No, you tell me that shit because you're a little fucker who doesn't know when to shut up," Bob says, and fills a glass with cold water before taking a long drink. "And, I don't need reminding what sex is."

"Sex with your own hand doesn't count." Frank says, taking a step back so he's out of reach of a swipe from Bob's hand. "I mean two people sex, the hot and heavy kind, you know, with the fucking and the sucking and..." Frank abruptly stops talking, flushing red as he turns to Gerard. "Not that I do that with Mikey of course."

"So you're fucking and sucking someone not Mikey," Bob says, an evil glint in his eyes. "Admitting that here doesn't seem like a good idea."

"What? No! It's Mikey, it's always Mikey. I wouldn't think of..." Frank rests his hand on Gerard's arm, looking earnest. "I only fuck Mikey, promise."

Gerard wonders how he's supposed to reply. Nothing seems right and he pats Frank's hand awkwardly, says, "As long as you're being careful."

"Jesus fuck," Frank mutters, going bright red as he glares over at Bob. "I hate you."

"You know you love me," Bob says, and extracts Gerard from Frank's grasp. "I'll help you sort the rest of the laundry while these idiots tidy up outside."

Hm. My most meaningful five:

If You Play With Fire (because it's the fic that started it all)
The Bubbling Inside Mix (writing Lamp is perhaps the best thing ever. I had so much fun with it)
Deliver Us From Evil (I've proven to myself that I am capable of writing a chapter story, which I didn't think I could do, and that I can write something of bigbang length. Not to mention it's very plotty, I like getting into that)
Perfection (bleak as all hell, but it was my way of venting my frustration with the series finale. It's not somuch a story about Hoshi as it is one about my view of life)
The Other Side of the Street (it changed the way I approach writing a story, and I think I've become a better writer alongside that story)

Is it okay to be a little sad that there isn't more pop in your fav 5?

Mine, in no particular order:
-Zen and the Art of Dragon Sword Maintenance
I will always consider it my first fic of significant size. Also the first time I thought, "hey, I'm kinda funny."

-Her Favorite Color
Just a simple little fic that was pretty much everything that I wanted it to be when I sat down to write it.

-How JC Escaped from Planet Sequin and Got His Groove Back
The title, if nothing else, makes it a fav.

-The Amazing Tale of JC, the Lunch Lady of Warehouse D
This was so fun, and so stupid. I love my JCs, every one.

-Girl Stuff
Made me love Brit. And Momfic. Warped me for life.
