People, I need your help, because something tragic is occurring. Bob is losing in this poll

If you could take the time to go vote for him, and Mikey, that would be beyond awesome. Because, look at his little suspicious look at the camera, the way he's sitting. He wants you to vote! And I do too, please.

Photobucket

And now, a writing meme from [livejournal.com profile] mahoni

Which is

1. How often do you write a week?

It depends, when I'm actively writing a story daily, but sometimes it can be days/weeks and I never look at google docs.

2. Do you carry a notebook with you? Is it full of stuff to do with writing?

Oh man, no. That would mean actually writing with a pen. I suppose it could be handy, when I'm in the middle of a story I often find myself writing notes on the back of any handy paper, a lot of Tints was plotted on the back of a scrap of paper while I was sitting in the car in a car park, but no, no notebook.

3. Do you only write when inspired?

Usually, though sometimes I have no choice but to write when I'm looking at an imminent deadline, but it's stuff like that which makes writing less fun, so I try to only write when I want to.

4. Can you self edit?

To an extent, but I do use beta readers mostly. For example, the last story I wrote was a for fun thing and I didn't use a beta, and was still finding niggly mistakes days later. Plus, I'm very aware that as I'm writing in a fandom based on people from the US my terminology and phrasing can sound wrong. I catch most of it, but some things still slip through. That's when I need betas that tell me my word choice is wrong, or that there are no trees in a place I've set my story. Seriously, no trees. I thought everywhere had trees, but no.

5. How do you feel about critique?

It depends on who's it's from. My betas have free reign to tell me what I've written sucks, and have on occasions, and I'm fine with that. That's why they're there and I'd rather someone I trusted told me that before I subjected other people to dross. One line feedback on years old stories pointing out a minor mistake? Not so much.

6. How do you feel about rejection?

I've never sent anything off anywhere so I wouldn't know. I am aware that it's impossible to please everyone at all times and some people will hate what I write, but as I've never had that experience of having my work rejected, it's a question I can't really answer.

7. Are you misunderstood?

Totally. I am an artistic genius and no one sees that.

8. Is your writing misunderstood?

Obviously people are missing the fact that my stories are literary works of genius.

But honestly, I think people tend to get what I'm trying to say. It's not that hard, I'm not out to write complex, layered stories.

9. Do you consider writing a craft? An art?

I don't know. Technically, sure. People work at it and strive to improve, but if I say that it's like saying I consider myself some kind of word artist, and I really don't. I just write. That's all.

10. Have your relationships suffered because of writing?

Well, when I'm hours away from a challenge deadline and am writing like crazy and cursing ever thinking I could do this and James tells me I should have started sooner -- and it doesn't work like that! and I want to hit him with the nearest heavy object, does that count?

11. Has your job suffered?

Sure, sometimes the laundry gets put back an hour if I'm on a roll.

12. Do you ever get smacked with inspiration?

I do, see the car park story above. That happens often and then it's a case of trying to remember that inspiration.

13. What percentage of writing is talent, inspiration, and hard work?

Writing and maths, too. Come on!

See, the thing is, personally the numbers wouldn't feel right. Sure, at times I do work really hard on stories. I research, I work on one story for multiple weeks, I edit and re-edit and change things until they're right. But sometimes it's not hard work at all. I'd also feel weird about using a big talent number, because, no. To me the biggest percent should be just doing it and hoping for the best.

14. And most importantly - do you enjoy writing?

There are times I don't -- and I seem to hit that point in every story. For example, in both Sound Tracking and When Day is Night Alone I had to write specific scenes over and over and just couldn't seem to get them right. At those points when I was getting edits back which still said no, I didn't enjoy it at all. But mostly, yes, I love writing. I wouldn't do it if I didn't. To me writing is fun, it's getting the stories out of my head and letting people see. I don't want to be published, I'm not one of those people that say they've been writing before they could walk, because I haven't. I started late because it looked fun. The fact that people actually read and enjoy the stories I share. Well, that astounds me. So yeah, I enjoy it.

Still more writing. The rpf big bang has hit 25k and as it stands now may hit 40. Which, the hell?! Yesterday I wrote a scene that made me really sad. It was terrible.

Ah but. I'm really sorry, I would go vote for Bob if he wasn't up against Spencer. But you know me, you say the word "Spencer" and I'm utterly gone! ;-p

Yeah, it was. And as much as I love them both, Spencer is just absolutely AMAZING on stage and I've seen that first hand so Bob didn't really stand a chance with me. Sorry bob!

And duh! Of course I did. So far, I'm happy that all the people I've voted for are still winning, lol.

I voted for Bob and Mikey, just for you and cause you're you. I could care less either way.

Also, this meme looks fun. It's always interesting to see other people's thoughts/feelings about the writing process.

Bob is only a couple of votes behind now! Go Bob!! [he's 7 votes ahead now! lol]

I was so surprised to see Pete had gone in the 1st round. I mean, I don't care either way, and I love Siska, but it struck me as odd, considering I never see anything about TAI anywhere ... Does TAI have a super stealth fandom or do people really hate Pete that much? lol

I'm getting anxious about this. If Mikey's gets close in future rounds I'll be no good.

I was surprised about Pete too, I never expected him to win, but to lose in the first round? Ouch.

Sadly I suspect it's because a lot of people do hate Pete, and that makes me sad.

I have done my duty and voted for Bob! (And Mikey too!! ;-)

Seriously, no trees. I thought everywhere had trees, but no.

You scare me! There really are places that don't have trees? What does the birds sit in if there aren't any trees?!!!

Weeell, since he apparently he doesn't remember you wanting to hit him the next time it happens I would say No ;-)

Man, Turlough. The vote for Bob is too close.

You scare me! There really are places that don't have trees? What does the birds sit in if there aren't any trees?!!!

I know! But apparently it's true. Both Sperrywink and Arsenic picked up on it when I was writing the shelter fic, when I had Ryan and Spencer jump into a sort of forest. I got comments from them both saying that part of the US is just flat with no trees. I was like, but...but...

Ahahahaha, okay. Point. It doesn't count.

No! No go mes! Codas are not supposed to be double the size of their original stories.

Mikey looks safe, but Bob is still losing. :(((

That's when I need betas that tell me my word choice is wrong, or that there are no trees in a place I've set my story. Seriously, no trees. I thought everywhere had trees, but no. --> Haha, I have the same problem. When I write I avoid mentioning specific names of places, or even names of states, because I don't have a clue how they look like. xDD

Oh God, I wish I had a boyfriend/husband who I could tell I'm interested in bandom and slashfiction and he wouldn't think I'm mentally disabled or sth.

I'm gonna steal this meme. ^^

And yay for your story! :D

I've just gone to look and he's losing by a big chunk now. There's no way Mikey will lose, but Bob.

When I write I avoid mentioning specific names of places, or even names of states, because I don't have a clue how they look like. xDD

I get that. I do a load of Googling but sometimes that's not enough, that's why having people that do know is so invaluable.

I've heard so many stories about people that have to keep their fannish stuff secret and I know I'm really lucky that James knows and encourages what I do.

You should steal. I'd love to read your answers.

Oh, and for the tree thing, I can't imagine this either. In Poland we have forests everywhere. The whole country is practically forests and fields.
I pity people living in places with no trees.
