no_tags reveals went up, so I can say that I wrote the Mikey/Alicia/Pete story A Different Way to Walk for the prompt, they've been together a long time. It's a prompt that jumped out at me when I saw the list, mainly because just before I'd been talking to various people about how I wanted the story of Mikey and Pete's relationship from beginning to end, and how it would eventually end up as a threesome with Alicia. Obviously that's not the story I wrote, but it is kind of a light version of that.
I was pleased with the comments I got and the fact for the first time I managed to post straight to the right community and not the actual ficletfairy journal. Unlike the first year when it took me forever to work out why I couldn't see my posted story on my flist, and last time when I did exactly the same thing again.
I really want someone to write the Merry Gentry prompt that's in the bonus round of no_tags. Like I said on twitter, bandom is made for hair swishing and sex. You know the Way bros need to have tri-coloured eyes and hair that brushes the floor. Pete could be Merry, cast out of court but instead of being a detective he'd have Clan Industries and he'd bring people's powers through sex. By accident at first. Sex with Mikey. Surprise, Mikey can now command liquid! Sex with Gabe. Surprise, Gabe can now control will via suggestion. Sex with Ryan. Surprise, Ryan can now write words that make things come true.
It would end in orgies. Of course.
I didn't get to read all the stories before reveal, but I did read a nice chunk, and they really are great. I also found out that it was
cincodemaygirl who wrote Knitters Aren't Quitters for my prompt where Pete takes up knitting and starts sending Mikey home made knitted gifts, starting with hats. -- surprise, that was my prompt! -- and managed to write the story I'd wanted so badly. I love it a lot.
Oh, and Bandom BFF challenge. Gerard and Mikey are best friends, right? They've stated that many times. I do love gen stories a lot, and BFFs. You can't go wrong with that. I'm considering signing, though probably asking for Mikey and Frank.
Corey came home yesterday and has had a great time. He loved Paris and as well as the usual touristy observations has told both me and his dad about how the McDonalds there is better. Apparently taking your order in the queue and having a separate McCafe is the way to impress teens. He really did love what he saw of the city and had a blast at Disney, even though it was really cold. He got presented with a signed card and mug and his classmates and teachers sang happy birthday to him on Sat, so he had a nice birthday, too.
A few hours and we're taking mam for a scan, need to go shopping, home, to Corey's physio appointment and then on to nanna's as she's 93 today. We may be driving Kay to her doctor's appointment too, which has the potential for awkwardness as she's fallen out with mam again. They only started speaking last week, and within a few days things happened and we're back to anger and silence between then. I'm very tempted to blow off the planned birthday dinner and just go with Corey and James. It would lead to a better atmosphere that's for sure.

Date: 2012-02-13 07:16 pm (UTC)Though I did start to feel I should be apologising to people when I kept getting, ouch comments.
And thank you for running such an awesome challenge. You were both brilliant.

I'm glad Corey had a great time, sounds like an awesome thing to do on your birthday!

Date: 2012-02-13 06:36 pm (UTC)It would end in orgies. Of course.
Wait... there are other options?
Weird.

Date: 2012-02-13 07:12 pm (UTC)Hope you liked.
Well, it's Merry Gentry, I don't think there are any options but orgies. Not that I'm bothered by that. In the bandom version anyway.
Have we talked about this before? I seem to recall something about Bob's tri-coloured blue eyes.
Oh, and how's BRBB coming? Any progress?

Date: 2012-02-13 07:18 pm (UTC)I think you're right. About Merry Gentry and orgies, not about a previous discussion on the topic. I've only read Hamilton's Anita Blake stuff, not the Merry Gentry. I would DEFINITELY remember the tri-colored eyes convo.
UGH, not really. :P I'm really friggin' stuck. ))))):
How about you? The fireworks prove as magical as you hoped?

Date: 2012-02-13 07:23 pm (UTC)I must have talked about it elsewhere then. It seems a weird thing to remember so clearly, and yet not clearly enough it seems. Orgies are always fun though, except for the inevitable hair knotting issue.
Oh no. Would throwing more words out help, or are you still at the same point? Whichever, you know I'll help if I can.
Ahahaha. Yeah /o\ I have the ideas but haven't actually sat down to write them. It won't be tonight either as James has a scout friend coming to discuss stuff so I'll be heading off for bath and book soon.

Date: 2012-02-15 01:08 am (UTC)Yeah, you must have, as I don't remember this convo. And yikes to the hair knotting issue. [Which... has a completely different connotation when brought up on Horny Werewolf Day O_____o]
YES. YES ABSOLUTELY. *flails* That would be ace. And hey, same on this end - if you need me to bat ideas back and forth at all, just let me know. We could story juggle!
[Though currently I've been completely distracted by the Frank in Scrubs and tired Mikeyway photo you post to MWD.]

Date: 2012-02-13 07:51 pm (UTC)You're a little slow but you get there in the end ;-D
Someone should totally sign up to that and write Gerard and Mikey as beffies!
I hope today went well and with a minimum of awkard and anger. Happy birthday to your nana!

Date: 2012-02-17 06:25 pm (UTC)Still debating on signing up. By the time I decide the deadline to join will probably be over.
Thank you :)

Date: 2012-02-17 06:12 pm (UTC)And yes, yes you do! I'm going to start sending them to you to beta to force the issue soon *g*

Date: 2012-02-14 01:18 am (UTC)I'm probably missing something glaringly obvious but where do I find the rules for the Bandom BFF challenge? Is like an exchange type thing or just a prompt and pick if you want thing?
I was very tempted to claim that prompt. I've actually been thinking about how an AU for Merry Gentry would work.
Okay so the basic premise of Merry Gentry is that Merry must get pregnant to become heir to the Unseelie throne. So if Pete is going to be the exiled/in hiding (really it depends on who you ask, Pete would say he's hiding because it's the smart thing to do) Faerie Prince then in this AU either the pregnancy point has to come out which sort of doesn't really work for me because it's one of the Main Points of the series and basically the only reason Merry has so many guard with her.
So the solution to that, as I see it at least, is that in the AU Mpreg is possible or the bandom ladies get to be the Guards except that prevents the awesome long-haired tri-colored eyed Way Brothers which I know won't do at all.
So on that note have a little snippet of Merry Gentry AU Way Brothers.
Gerard and Mikey are called the Twins not because they are twins but because they're mirrors and it amused the Queen long ago to call them Twins and the name just stuck as names bestowed by the Queen have a tendency to do. Gerard is the Dark Twin with long black hair that constantly falls in his face like a ragged shroud and hides his eyes; a ring of grey so dark it looks almost black, circled by a smokey grey-green, and finally a last thick ring of golden green of a cat's eye. Once Gerard was known for his art, delicate water colours that belied the gore of their subject and sharp angular lines that showed the Host at its most beautiful and most frightening, but he's long since put up his public brushes at the Queen's command and now he's known for his mercurial temper and black moods.
The Light to Gerard's Dark is Mikey whose hair is the harsh yellow gold that humans can only achieve through bleaching. Mikey has the same grey-back inner circle around his pupil as Gerard. The second ring of his iris is a silver that sparkles with a metallic sheen, and it is surrounded by a ring that is the pale grey of candle smoke trapped under glass. When the world was young, Mikey was worshipped as a God of Pleasure, accepting virgin sacrifices and presiding over orgies fuelled by his power. Where Gerard stays to the shadows Mikey plays in the bright light of the fires of Underhill, gathering followers around himself and being known to all. Even curtailed by the Queen's geas Mikey is surrounded by a party even if he can no longer partake as he once did.
The Twins, no matter their differences are inseparable and all the Unseelie know that to attack one is to attack both. It's both their strength and their weakness.

Date: 2012-02-15 02:55 pm (UTC)And I'm so excited about the idea of that prompt in your hands. I know you could do great things with it. And know that even more so after seeing this snippet, which I love beyond reason!
Your descriptions of Mikey and Gerard are wonderful, and what they're known for especially. They fit so well and I'm especially taken by the idea of Mikey worshipped as a God of Pleasure and prosiding over orgies. Because of course he would!
I have so much love for this. So much! Thank you!

Date: 2012-02-17 05:52 am (UTC)I'm not sure if this will get finished into a proper story - I am just end up comment ficcing/not-ficcing in your posts/email - but here have a bit more...
Clan Industries is known for being fashion forward, having a tight portfolio, and a founder who likes to party. Pete has always liked humans - his Queen-Aunt considered it a weakness but his father encouraged it because he saw the way the Fae were slipping away - so when he runs from Faerie and the Unseelie Court it seems like the best idea to play with the humans. Pete builds himself a good business and cultivates a reputation for being a bit into the fairy kingdom - after all he reasons no true Fae - even one known to like humans like he does - would ever do something to garish with humans. Pete's glamour, which he was always good at, gives him the appearance of pointed ears as if he really does buy into the false human beliefs about the Fae. He keeps tabs on stories about the Lost Fae Prince because it amuses him to see all things they think he could be doing (his favorite is being a tour guide in the Amazon).

Date: 2012-03-04 01:00 am (UTC)All I know is that the claiming for No_tags was CRAZY. The only two prompts that I was interested in after going through the list were the Dewees saves the day genfic and the Ray Toro-centric one. NGL, I had to flip a coin to pick one. XD!
Dunno if you ended up signing up for the Bandom BFF challenge. I was in an enthusiastic mood and so, it looks like I'm gonna be writing some Bandom genfic. Hooray!
Happy belated birthday to your Nana. :D!

Date: 2012-03-06 01:31 pm (UTC)Crazy is right. I always worry that if I'm not there at the prompt reveal I'll be left with a prompt I just can't write, eg The Like, who I know nothing about at all. But, those are both great choices.
I didn't, though I wish I did now because I love gen fic. But I was in the middle of BRBB angst when sign ups happened and the thought of taking on another challenge was just too much. Hopefully it'll fun again in the future.
Thank you!
