turpsETA: Knew I forgot something. A long time ago there was a sort of unofficial flash challenge to write bandom people with superheroes. Bandom reverse big bang started posting today, which means I failed in my plan to catch up on the no_tags and stuffsit stories I still have to read. Still, I'll keep plugging away and one day I'll clear all my tabs -- probably in 2022 or something.
Fannish things I've enjoyed recently include the pictures of Mikey and Ray at Disneyland and of course the stalker vibe video of the band going out to eat. Which no lie, delights me, especially
His smiley face, his crinkly eyes. So much love, though getting the code did mean I lost a minute or two at MWD's photobucket animated gifs page.
When I was making my attempt to read all my tabbed stories I started to make a note of the ones I really liked. In a comment I called it channellingturlough just for pairings she won't read. But I was then informed that in that case I wouldn't be channelling Turlough at all, because Turlough is mean like that. So, this is me taking a leaf out of her book instead, just you know, much less organised and with sketchy descriptions of why you should read.
I Bet You Thought I Was Soft and Sweet Adam Lambert/Mikey. I wasn't sure about reading this as all I know about Adam I've learned through my flist. But this is a really great take on Mikey. Especially this. Adam watches him walk out of the kitchen and it kind hits him in the gut; Mikey spent the entire party in his brother's orbit, and in Adam's, but it definitely wasn't from insecurity or reticence, Mikey's happy not to be right in the centre, doesn't need people to acknowledge him, praise him, whatever, he just is, and he goes where he knows he fits and can be like he wants to be.
The Secret of My Success byromantical Dallon/Gabe. The dialogue in this is great, and while I never thought of Gabe/Dallon before, it works.
Edcysiastby inlovewithnight. In my comment there I said this is one of the hottest things I've read for a while. Mikey needing to get so close to Gerard. Gah. I love it.
Glitter in the Air byxoxxblitz7 A very cute and lovely story where Pete is jealous of the glitterbass, as well he should be! I really like Pete and Mikey in this.
Bridging the Gap byart_brutal Bob/Mikey. This is a picfor1000 story and I'm well aware of how difficult it is to tell a story in such a small and exact amount of words. I like that while Bob saves Mikey in this, Mikey in no means is a pushover. Plus, as I didn't read tabs it had a twist I didn't expect.
Human Behavior by Lucifuge5 -- a story about a 17 year old Mikey and cross-dressing. You know I had that baby tabbed as soon as I saw the link. This is a really lovely read, and Mikey's feelings are shown so well. He's that mix of young and old, sure and unsure, but all the time knowing what he wants. I loved this a lot.
Bones to the Side by akamine_chan. Gen. The story where Ray meets a sharkopus. It's all kinds of awesome and made me smile a lot. Also, check out the art that inspired the story.
The Rules of the Internet bykopperblaze Frank/Mikey. This is cheating a little as I was able to read along with that as it was being written. Still, it remains a fantastic story. I love her Frank voice especially and how the two of them meet and eventually come together. It's just a lovely, feel-good story that I rec strongly.

Edcysiast is amazing. It works on so many levels, the kink itself and Mikey and Gerard's feelings for one another and just everything about it. I got to the end and had to take a moment to process and just think, wow.
You and me both. More hours in the day are needed.

It will be interesting to see if the art gets more feedback in this challenge than it gets in BBB or if all the interest will still be on the stories.

Apparently I have kind of a paparazzi squick (which doesn't, of course, stop me from saving allll the gifs that have come out of it. :P)
Yay, recs! I saw that Adam/Mikey story and wasn't sure whether to try it, but now I'll definitely check it out. And Ecdysiast. Oh man. That fic managed to take a kink I had absolutely no opinion on (latex) and write it in such a way as to hit all my buttons. *_______*

I know what you mean, it was weird to see them papped, and yet at the same time, it allowed us to see them acting more naturally than usual. It's a weird line to walk, wanting to see that but not liking how it happened.
I had no idea if I'd like the Adam/Mikey, and had no desire to dive into Adam fandom after, but it was a good read. And Ecdysiast is amazing. Seriously, such a great fic.

Date: 2012-04-25 03:16 am (UTC)Well, my 'puter took care of that recently. It kinda went wonk-wonk and crashed Firefox when I was in Seattle a month ago. It meant the handwaving of 200+ tabs. Which is around the time I said "sod it!" and started my tabbinating from scratch. Right now I have about 60 or so?
I still have 5 BRBB fics to read--which isn't THAT bad (I think). OTOH, I have 7 fics from 2011 to finish (including a non-bandom one that's about 94k words long) before I can post my "Best in Fandom 2011" list. It usually goes up in January but things happened? /o\.
Ah, yeah, the pap video. It was SO weird to see them from a papparazzi view 'cause they're not a HUGE band in terms of tabloid entertainment, you know?
In any case, one of the best things out of it is exactly that gif. It's so rare to see Mikeyway grinning so freely (probably 'cause he feels awkward about his teeth as he told someone in Bandom. Um,
Huh, I don't know if I'm sold on an Adam/Mikeyway pairing. Might have to give that fic a try.

The pap video really was weird. I'm always conflicted with stuff like that because I like seeing them being themselves, it's sort of like we're getting peek of their usual lives. And yet I know it's a peek we really shouldn't be getting. It's like that picture of Gerard,Lindsey and Bandit doing their grocery shopping. Interesting to see but it still had me thinking, I shouldn't be looking at this.
Yeah, it was Rachel he told. I think his teeth are just fine and I'm glad he seems to be getting over that need to not smile. He should always smile because he looks great doing so.
Truthfully I'm not sold on Adam/Mikey at all, and I've never looked any more up. But it was there and I was nosy so gave it a go and enjoyed.

Date: 2012-05-27 06:28 pm (UTC)Also, yeah, I used to get all mopey when I lost all of my tabs in the past. Nowadays, I keep it in mind as an incentive to not let the open tabs amount get too unruly.
I always get weirded out when I see pap video or pics of the band. OTOH, yes, they are famous. OTOH, they're not mainstream or famous in the usual celebrity way. The Way family grocery shopping fic gave me a hard case of the motts.
Eh, I don't think Mikeyway has the ugliest teeth out there. It's just so rare to see him smiling all over the place though. :P
FWIW, I'm still debating whether or not to read that Adam/Mikeyway fic. :-/
