Mar. 25th, 2012 09:33 amThe one day I get to lie in and I still wake up at 6, and then couldn't get back to sleep. Of course tomorrow I'll be making like a zombie when the alarm goes off, no waking up fully rested then. Oh no, it never happens that way.
I'm slowly but surely working my way through the BRBBs. Only at a rate of about one a day recently but I will get there eventually. Here's three I've read and really enjoyed.
Undertow by
romanticalgirl. Gerard/Mikey. The art for it was one that attracted my attention when claims went up, and the story of why Mikey is wearing Gerard's killjoys jacket is just lovely.
Cigarettes, Coffee and the Ghost of You by
glitteryv which is Frank/Mikey and a great read. Not spoiling any plot points, but I loved the knitted hat details.
Soggy, Chapped, & Faded Yet Clawing Towards Daylight by
dancinbutterfly Pete/Mikey. In this Pete has cancer, and it's a story that's like a punch to the gut when you read. When I finished I was clutching a damp wad of toilet roll, because I'm just that classy. There's no main character death, but please read the warnings. I am reccing it, but totally understand anyone who wouldn't want to read because it is a hard story, and the kind that feels very real.
There are still so many stories that I have on my to-read list, so many that I need to get a move on or I'll still be reading when BBB starts posting.
So what else have I been up to since last time I posted? Not much to be honest.
For a while there was a possibility I could have had a last minute chance to go to Camp Sparkle, but for a variety of reasons it just didn't work out. But,
sperrywink is coming to stay for the weekend after which is all kinds of awesome. When she leaves here I intend to have fully converted her to the h/c side >:)
Corey breaks up for Easter on Friday, and it feels like his school is constantly asking for money for stuff. A ticket to the prom, a hoodie with his graduating class names printed on it, a year book -- which I boggled at because really, when did schools over here start offering them? -- and the latest one, his year get to go in fancy dress for the last assembly of the term. Which is why we've spent this last week looking for stuff to make him a Jason from Friday the 13th costume. Old crone alert. I went to the same school as Corey, and when we left all that happened was you got your white shirt signed by your friends, tied your tie to some railing near the school, and then got pelted with flour and eggs on the way home. How things change.
I'm working my way through Suits at the moment, and it's a really great show. With a big bonus being I now know the people I've been reading about.
I've also been making my own bread. Well sort of. As some of you know I lurk a money savers forum, and on the printable coupon thread there was a pdf for 80p off bread mix. As the mix itself ranges from 75p to at most 85p for the sundried tomato kind, well, I've been printing off the coupons when needed and making bread almost daily. It's quick, easy, and best of all, saves us buying bread, so a win all around.
It's a beautiful day today so I think we'll try and fit in a quick drive to the beach later. For now though, the whites need to go on the line and then cheese and tomato on toast for breakfast and some brbb reading.

Date: 2012-03-25 10:42 am (UTC)Awww, I wish it had worked out that you could go to Camp Sparkle, but I am glad I am a good consolation prize. *g*
Well, you can probably convert me to the comfort side...
Bread and Suits, sounds like fun.
I hope you have a good day!

Date: 2012-03-27 01:06 pm (UTC)You're the best consolation prize. And with being happy to eat pizza always and sleep on the sofa an easy guest *g*
But you need some hurt to make the comfort better. Though I have to admit, I was reading my charity slave fic for the first time in a while last week and man, does it need some comfort soon, sadly that's not going to happen for a while.
Suits is so good. I don't know why I resisted watching for so long.
Well, I had a good day then the night not so much.

Date: 2012-03-25 09:00 pm (UTC)I've got the first two of those on my to-read list.
It's so sad you can't make it to Camp this year. I'm going to miss you terribly! It's good you at least get a Kimberly visit to cheer you up. (Even though I'm horribly jealous of her :-)
Freshly made bread, yum!
I hope you got to go to the beach. It was a little colder here today than yesterday but it was still gloriously sunny.

Date: 2012-03-27 01:03 pm (UTC)You'll read that Frank/Mikey and not mine? I'm shocked and appalled now! >:(
You should come visit with her. I'll take you to Lush, we can all poke the products :D
Freshly made bread is so good. I need to make more as we've just ran out. Finding a warm place for it to rise is the issue now that the plants have taken over the windowsill.

Date: 2012-03-27 05:38 pm (UTC)Well, I haven't decided if I'm reading it yet, it's only on my list. A trick to get me to read pairings I wouldn't otherwise is to use plots I think sound interesting ;-)

Date: 2012-03-27 05:53 pm (UTC)Yeah, I have to agree.
Aha, so that's the trick. *plots a F/M space fic*

Date: 2012-04-30 12:20 am (UTC)Thank you for the rec, T.! I had tons of fun spotlighting Mikeyway's ugly hats. In truth, they're a favourite 'ship of mine. ^_^
I'm down to 4 BRBB fics left to read. Which is a great thing since I have a feeling that I'm gonna be neck-deep into BBB when they begin posting. DDDD:
When she leaves here I intend to have fully converted her to the h/c side
Best of luck, T.! I *know* we can sway her to our side. BWAHAHAHAHA!
Huh, I had no idea British schools didn't do the yearbook thing.
I remember liking S1 of Suits enough to check out when S2 premieres over here sometime in the summer. The fic, however . . . has failed to grab me. I have some faves (which I'll post about when I do my best of 2011 list next weekend), but the majority of the ones I've read (both recced to me as well as found on my own) have left me rather 'meh'.
In truth, I think it all stems from me really liking the "idea" of Harvey/Mike but not feeling attracted to Mike in the show (talking about the physical characteristics of the actor who plays him). I can't commit to a ship (or reading about it) if I only find 1/2 of the pairing hot, you know?
Go you for making your own bread! I can't bake for crap so I'm always in awe of people who can. :)

Date: 2012-05-13 05:33 pm (UTC)You're welcome, I loved your story at lot ♥
Gah, I'm so impressed with your BRBB reading. I must pick up the pace as I'm still no further forward /oz
Nope, year books are a very new thing. I've never actually seen one in reality, it'll be interesting to see how the school produces them.
Did you ever post your best of 2011 list? I can't remember seeing it. To be honest I only stared watching Suits because Arsenic loves the show and started writing in the fandom, and I missed talking fic with her. But it certainly hasn't grabbed me in a fannish way.

I know exactly what you mean.

Date: 2012-05-13 05:42 pm (UTC)I'm down to 2 BRBB fics.
My Best of 2011 list should go up sometime in the next two weeks (for reals this time.) Wave 1 BBB sucked up 90% of my time. Gonna finish 1 last fic (that's about 100k) before I can make up my mind.
Funnily enough, I got into watching that show because of Arsenic's
Yeah. My fic reading is based on which pairing I'm reading about (obvs, except when I'm reading genfic--which I really like too.) So the idea of sitting through a 20, 40 or even a 5k-word fic where I don't feel half of a 'ship is a surefire way to get frustrated fast.
