I want a Batman Ben icon from Parks and Rec. And a Hawkeye icon. I still have loads of empty icon slots and need to fill them.

I posted my bbb and have some lovely comments which are making me happy. I just posted at A03 this time because most people seem to have an account there, and even if you don't comments can be left without one. Really I just hoped that the story would get more comments than the egglet ficlet, because fandom is a weird place where often something you knock out in less than a day gets much more attention than something you labour over for months.

This is the song I fell in love with recently. It was in the mix Verbyna produced and it's just perfect.

Ryan posted a video which was both delightful and mottsy, because Ryan, looking happy and beautiful and singing ( I miss his voice so damn much ) but also, motts so often /o\

Related. I need more Spencer/Ryan in my life.

I'm determined to catch up one day and finish reading at least one challenge, so I've been reading both BRBBs and BBB lately. I've enjoyed many but have a rec from BRBB that I liked a lot.

Night Hours by [livejournal.com profile] creepylicious, the story where the Way bros are the bogey men in Brendon's closet. It's written so well and I really enjoyed it.

Another thing I'm determined to do is get at least a line on my h/c bingo card so I've been pondering on a Ryan centric story for loss of identity.

It's kink bingo time. As always I've been dithering whether this is the year I'll actually join up. The answer to that of course is, no. No it is not.

After being unemployed a long time my sister started her new job yesterday. She's going to be part of a team of mobile carers, someone that goes to people's houses to bathe them, etc. Which lead to a conversation the night before where I was talking to her and she was panicking about the first client who according to the person she'll be shadowing for a week, always gets an erection when he's being bathed. So Kay was asking what she should do and really, how was I supposed to know?

One thing I though was strange was the person Kayleigh's shadowing is also the carer who looks after Kay's ( my sister's partner ) dad. He had a major stroke years ago so he needs looking after in a lot of ways, many of them intimate. While he has no issue in Kayleigh being part of his care team she's a bit hesitant, and I can understand why.

After tackling the ivy on our fence James came down with a horrible rash on his arms that meant he had to be on steroids for a while. It's just normal ivy, but apparently his body has decided it's going to react to garden stuff. Which means from now on he needs to wear gloves and long sleeves if doing anything more than watering or other light non-contact work. His work actually sent him to the hospital last night as the rash was creeping further up his arms and the nurse on site wasn't happy with that. Which was a good call as it turned out he's got an infection now, both on his arms and his stump. He called last night saying he was just heading into casualty, and got out at 2am, having to go back to work after that.

The wet weather we've been having means the courgettes and beetroots are growing like crazy. In fact, I noticed today that the beets are forming fruit/roots/whatever the thing is called that grows underground. A few more weeks and it'll be harvest time.

Thanks for the link to the More Amor video! That song is great and Ryan looks so happy!

Oh man, who can I bribe to write some Spencer/Ryan? I have such a weakness for it.

Your sister's job sounds really hard! I'm really impressed. Best of luck to her.

fandom is a weird place where often something you knock out in less than a day gets much more attention than something you labour over for months.

this is true, and why i'm hesitant about starting any long stories anymore since they never get the amount of comments or kudos i feel like they deserve. and it makes me doubt myself and causes me more bad feelings than good ones that i don't think it's worth it anymore. :/

i'm looking forward to reading your bbb! lately i've had a hankering for mikey/frank fics, which is a pairing i haven't read much but now really want to. and you always write mikey so well!

all the kudos to your sister! i have so much respect for nurses and carers. it's important work but something i know i could never do.

Ooh, poor James. I hope his rash has been/will very soon be sorted out.

My strawberries are growing. I have done nothing to facilitate this. It's almost depressing, considering I actually tried to make them grow last year....

Oh Ryan. <333

I guess it would be best to just ignore the erection? I don't know, it's just a difficult situation.

I hope James will feel better soon!

I've missed Ryan's face and voice so much! It was lovely to see him look happy and relaxed, I hope he makes new music soon.

I ALSO want Spencer/Ryan fic. I know of very little but this is one of my favourites. Tiniest boyfriends go to a Fall Out Boy concert and fall in love

Fandom is such a weird place. I've almost given up trying to understand it at all.

Ack! Poor James. I hope the infection will get better quickly and his body will stop being ridiculous about plants.

Well, since the name is beetroot I would say that it's a sure bet that they're called "roots" ;-p Yay! for growing veggies!!

The song just reeks of summer :DDDDD I love seeing Ryan looking so happy. In my head he's such a sad creature! =(
I meant to catch up on BRBB before BBB started but alas, I think I'm just gonna have to pretend BRBB never happened. I'm hoping I'll be able to read all the BBBs soon!

I think shorter getting more comments is part of it but not all. Genre is also important, fluff and humour seem to get more comments than more thoughtful stories, and then of course it's a matter of being a wellknown writer. And let's not forget pairing!

I hope the swelling will go down quickly so that he can enjoy his weekend.

I'm feeling even better today, thank you. My knee only hurts after I've been walking on it now and even the shoulders are better.

I can definitely see why that would be a bit awkward for Kayleigh - does the agency have a policy about pre-existing relationships between carers and service users?

Hope James is well on the mend!

I need more Spencer/Ryan in my life.

This was the pairing that became the gateway into Bandom for me so I will always have a soft spot for them either as a couple or friends.

[...] because fandom is a weird place where often something you knock out in less than a day gets much more attention than something you labour over for months.

I'm gonna go with that sentiment being true to a point. Like, a longer fic with a popular pairing will usually get more readers than a shorter one centered around a minor or rare pairing. But then, an unpolished fic--meaning typos, bad grammar, character head-hopping, etc--won't get as widely read as something that's been betaed thoroughly.

The thing is, you can never ever tell how Fandom will or won't react to fic. There are certain BBBs that will catch fandom's eyes and you'll be like "really? why do people like this fic so much?". The reversal will also be true. Popular pairings, fics written by a popular writer, sweet/fluffy or porny premises are all factors in this. Especially when it comes to such an intense and lengthy period of long fic like it happens in BBB season.

Acknowledgments, accolades (comments or kudos) and recs are super awesome, but writing and posting something with the idea or hope that everyone (or, at least, a lot of people) will love that fic will result in a lot of frustration and anger/bitterness if/when that doesn't happen.

And it's not as if I'm super-mature about this whole thing, mind you. It so happens that I had to sit myself down and embrace the probability of my Wave 1 not being an "it fic". No matter how hard I worked on it or how polished it was. So, for me, it became more about putting out the best fic I possibly could and have no expectations as to fandom's reaction to it.

Every kudos and comment for my Wave 1 is something that's made me smile. Sure I wish more people would give it a chance, but that doesn't diminish the love I have for the story. Goodness gracious,I kinda went on. Sorry./o\

MOVING ON, allergic reactions totally suck. I hope that James is doing better.

I'm surprised that your sister wasn't taught how to deal with erections and the like. Or, that, if she was, that it wasn't a more detailed lesson. I keep thinking of it being something similar to what sometimes happens to clients during a massage. Like, the body will react to touch, you know? I hope that things get sorted out for your sister sooner rather than later.
