Aug. 7th, 2012 12:14 pmI've missed the birthdays of some very lovely ladies lately. Happy belated birthday to
teigh_corvus,
andeincascade and
melusina. You're all incredible, special people and I hope your birthdays were all kinds of wonderful.
My Teen Wolf torrent is downloading at the moment, which means keeping off twitter for now as the spoilers are ridiculous on there. But soon Teen Wolf will be mine. Eta, and now it is mine as I didn't get to post this before watching. I'm not going to do any in-depth reaction but will say, that show owns my heart at the moment. I was on the edge of my seat and yelling at the screen often. And something that's always appropriate. Stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiles!
So, a brief catch up on what's been going on in the last week.
James crashed his car. Eta2. I was asked and it really wasn't bad at all. He came out of a side street and hit another car going down the main road. The air bags didn't even go off, it was mainly bumper crumple damage. Not badly and no one was hurt, but it still means it has to go in to be repaired. That happened Friday night and the AA came out and made it road worthy until the garage could take it in to be fixed completely. That will happen today so he'll be getting a hire car until it's fixed. Our car is specially adapted for him so that means swapping some stuff around to the hire car, so I intend to stay home as goodness knows how long that will take.
He'd been out that Friday as he was doing another ride along on an ambulance, something he really loves. So we went from a phone call with him buzzing about a great day to the one about the crash. Sunday he delivered his first baby at work. Not physically -- if you don't know he takes 999 calls -- but was there for when the baby boy was born.
We had a rabbit for the weekend. One of Corey's friends was going to relocate down south and needed someone to take on their rabbit. He asked if we could have it and after talking it out a while we said okay. Roger was beautiful, came with a cage as he was a house rabbit, was fully litter trained and was just this amazing, cuddly rabbit. He was also huge, one of the giant breeds that would probably double in size, and our cats were terrified of him. None of them came downstairs for the full weekend, and as much as we fell in love with Roger it wasn't fair on them. I mean, they're all rescue cats, this is their safe place and it had been invaded by someone who frightened them. We said to give it a while to see if things changed, but they didn't.
Yesterday we found a new home for him, someone experienced with house rabbits and who lived with no other animals. I'd like to say it was easy giving him up but it wasn't. Corey was really upset and each time I looked at him or Roger it was setting me off and James was trying his best by saying things like, 'he's going to a better home' and he was right, logically I know that, but I kept remembering how I'd told his old owners I'd look after him for them and I wasn't and I felt like the worst person ever. If anyone had seen us carrying the cage to the car they'd have thought something tragic had happened as both me and Corey were a soggy, sniffling mess.
The new garden tap leaked again. Inside this time.
Despite those things above, I'm perfectly happy at the moment. I've felt a bit off-colour for a while but that's just a summer cold. Everything in the garden is continuing to grow, my bedroom remains all kinds of awesome and I'm still plugging on reading A Dance With Dragons. Though on the kindle I've been reading through the Adrian Mole series of books. I remember reading the first few when I was a kid, but was surprised to find out there were a load more published. They're really light reading compared to ADWD so that's a nice contrast.
I still intend to get at least a line on h/c bingo, sadly the waycest wingfic I posted is nowhere near the accidental mated for life square. see. I'm not sure where to go now. I'm not afraid of any of the prompts on there but some of them need much more than the short fic I want to write for these bingo fills. Maybe I could try one for a TW fill, though I haven't actually written in media fandoms since my The Sentinel days.
Wave three is still going nicely, and my story got picked for art which is great. I'm still slowly reading wave ones and want to rec All the Broken Pieces (Keep Cool, Stay Tough) the Frank/Mikey story where Frank ends up in a wheelchair. I know the subject will put some people off, and I totally understand that, but if you've been on the fence, give it a go. I love how the story deals about disability, how hard and frustrating it is, but how ultimately it doesn't mean you can't have a good life.
