Sep. 7th, 2012 05:00 pmWe took Corey to Durham on Wednesday. He went to the college to officially register while I walked with James around the shops and spent time at the riverside. It's such a beautiful place and I really enjoyed chilling in the market square, just people watching in the sunshine. I hope Corey enjoys the college itself as the setting couldn't be better. Over the road from the river and a few minutes walk from Durham city centre, with the bonus of only a 30 minute bus drive home.
I spent last night filling in forms, medical and photography permissions and the many things needed to get his travel grant. Once he gets a photocopy of his bus ticket we can hand those form in, though from the paperwork shouldn't expect the grant any time soon.
James is on a ride along with an ambulance again today, so it's just me and the cats hanging out. Though Milo is walking around like a lost soul. He loves Corey beyond measure and has got used to him being home during the day. And now he's gone and it's tragic!
Except, now Corey's back. I guess this is what happens when you leave a post sitting in draft form all day. He seems to have had a good day, I just need to wait until he gets changed to find out details.
My online TV calendar has updated with all the autumn shows coming up and I'm delighted. Haven, Parks and Rec, CSI, NCIS, NCIS LA, Criminal Minds, Castle, 2 Broke Girls, TBBT. So many things starting so close together, and that's without the ones I'm already downloading and watching. More hours in the day needed I think.
Not much else is going on, so have a filler meme. More about my house than you ever wanted to know.
1. What kind of soap is in your bathtub right now?
Something from Lush. I can't remember the name but it smells sweet and candy-like.
2. Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator?
Nope.
3. Is there anything moldy in your refrigerator?
I hope not. Though I have to admit that yesterday Corey unearthed a packet of cooked meat with a best before date in June. Thankfully the package was sealed.
What happened to #4?
It went off on an adventure to another dimension.
5. What would you change about your living room?
Nothing. It only got completely redecorated last year.
6. Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty?
While we have a dishwasher it hasn't worked properly since we got it, which is 10plus years now. So it just sits there and does nothing as I wash by hand.
7. Do you have a can of mushrooms in your pantry?
Nope. I do have fresh mushrooms in the fridge.
8. White or wheat/brown bread?
I get the seeded stuff.
9. What is on top of your refrigerator?
A plastic crate that started holding assorted junk but now has a blanket in it and usually a cat.
10. What color is your sofa?
Dark brown, light brown and cream. All the cushions are different colours.
11. What color or design is on your shower curtain?
We don't have one. The bathroom was originally a wet room before we fitted a bath so any spilled water just flows away.
12. How many plants are in your home?
One and a half. The half being the one Pansy seems to think is her personal snack plant.
13. How many candles are in your home?
Not that many. A few old ones in the bathroom and a load of tea lights.
14. Is your bed made right now?
It is.
15. If you have a coffee pot, what color is it?
Don't have one. My coffee is the instant kind.
16. Electric or standard can opener?
Standard.
17. Comet or Soft Scrub?
I couldn't tell you what those are. So, neither.
18. Is your closet organized?
The rail parts are. Underneath and above not so much.
19. What color is the flashlight that you use the most?
Black I think. It's packed away with all the scout stuff so I don't really use it.
20. What kinds of things are in your junk drawer?
Tea towels at the moment. I cram them in over the junk at the bottom.
21. Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home?
Glass. I have these chunky Ikea tumblers that I love a lot.
22. Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now?
Never even tried the stuff never mind have it in a pitcher.
23. If you have a garage, is it cluttered?
We do, and yes it is. Though as it's a council garage it's not attached to the house, which means there's little domestic clutter in there. Mainly old car boot stuff. Plus, our present car is actually too big for the garage so the car is never in it.
24. Curtains or blinds?
Curtains and blinds downstairs, only curtains upstairs.
25. How many pillows do you sleep with?
Two. One of which must be doubled over when I'm sleeping.
26. Do you sleep with any lights on at night?
No, but James sleeps with the tv on so it's never completely dark.
27. How many ceiling fans are in your home?
None.
28. How often do you vacuum?
Every other day. More often if the cat hair tufts get too out of hand.
30. What color is your toothbrush?
Green.
31. Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch?
I haven't got a porch. Just three steps up to the house. Plus, put a welcome mat out front and it would be gone within days.
32. What is in your oven right now?
I keep the baking trays in there, so three trays and a frying pan.
33. Is your microwave clean or dirty?
Cleanish. It has a few splatters that need cleaning off.
34. Is there anything under your bed?
Probably lots of cat hair and dust.
35. Chore you hate doing the most?
Cleaning the windows. Something I have to do more often than I like due to cat snot.
36. What retro items are in your home?
None I don't think.
37. Do you have a separate room that you use as an office?
Nope. My desk and computer is in the corner of the living room.
38. If you have a yard, who mows it?
I have a garden, but with the inclusion of the raised bed there's only a strip of grass left, which gets left unmown.
39. Is there anything on your kitchen floor right now?
Cat food dishes, the draft excluder snake. A pot of paint that needs to be put away.
40. How many mirrors are in your home?
3
41. Do you have any hidden emergency money around your home?
Ahahahahahaha. Yeah. Like it would stay there long if there was.
42. What color are your walls?
Kitchen - blue. Living room - beige and cream. Hallway -- weird creamy colour. Downstairs toilet -- blue. Corey's room -- black and white. Our bedroom -- blue and yellow. Guest room -- darkish pink. Bathroom -- weird cream.
43. Which rooms in your house have wallpaper?
Just the hallway, and that's coming off asap.
44. Do you have a peephole in your front door?

45. Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home?
Nope, and if I did would probably get arrested for doing so.
46. What does your home smell like right now?
Laundry. I've just been pegging the wet stuff on the line.
47. Favorite candle scent?
I like ocean smells.
48. What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now?

49. Who are in the pictures you displayed?
Mostly Corey. While I do have a picture of Mikey on my desk it's on a pinboard so doesn't count.
50. What color is your favorite bible?
Don't own one.
51. Do you have plenty of cabinet space in your kitchen?
I do. Sadly only Corey can reach the top shelves on the wall units.
52. Ever been on your roof?
Ahahahaha. Yeah. Right.
53. Do you own a stereo?
Nope. All my music is on my computer, or else I'll listen to the ancient radio in the kitchen.
54. How many TVs do you have?
Three.
55. How many house phones?
Three.
56. Do you have a housekeeper?
I have me. And I need a raise, I'm just saying.
57. What style do you decorate in?
No real style. For example, the living room style is completely different to the bedroom style.
58. Do you like solid colors in furniture or prints?
Solids mostly.
59. Is there a smoke detector in your home?
Yep, we have two.
60. In case of fire, what are the items you would grab if you only could make one quick trip?
Photos, the cats if they were still in the house.

62. What temperature in your home is most comfortable to you?
I don't know, and have no way of knowing. Early 20s maybe?
Don't forget my MWD ask post. Otherwise I'll just end up listing all my favourites and no one wants that.

Date: 2012-09-08 02:57 pm (UTC)I envy Corey getting to go to college in Durham. It was such a pretty town when I was there. Which is admittedly almost 30 years ago now, but Durham doesn't look like the kind of town where there's ever much change :-)
Awww, poor Milo, all alone in the house with just you and the other cats for company! I hope he survived the trauma :-)
This meme is SO American. Though I thought the US was supposed to be a capitalist society - why do they only have two brands of cleaning products/washing-up liquid? At least, Comet or Soft Scrub sounds like they should be either of those. /is confused

Date: 2012-09-08 05:35 pm (UTC)I'm sure it hasn't changed much in 30 years. Though strangely they have just moved the huge statue that used to be in the middle of the market square. Other than that, probably just the shop names have changed.
He did survive, and hasn't moved from Corey's side all of today. He'll be beside himself when he's left again all next week.
It's ridiculously American. I agree, Comet or Soft Scrub must be cleaning products, but it is weird it seems to assume people have a choice of two only.

Date: 2012-10-13 05:00 pm (UTC)I've had too many glasses smash on me to be comfortable with thin ones, now. It's chunky tumblers all the way.
