It's cold outside
Oct. 6th, 2012 04:49 pmIt's Houghton Feast time around these parts.
The parade has just been happening so steam engines and various floats have been trundling past on the road below the estate and the air is full of that special Houghton Feast smell. Candy floss and chips and petrol fumes from the show ground. Last night was the opening ceremony, not that I went. In fact, I was sitting quite happily watching an episode of The Sopranos when they apparently decided to open things with the shortest but loudest firework display ever. Seriously, it must have lasted all of a minute but they picked the most booming fireworks available. Of course I'd forgotten all about it so about jumped off the couch in shock while cats flew everywhere yowling and growling.
I also watched new Red Dwarf last night. It was weird because they showed eps from earlier seasons close to the new one, and of course those were from ages ago. So it was like watching the crew age 10 plus years in minutes. It's still a show I love, though. It's ridiculous fun.
I forgot to say last time but I signed up for
mini_nanowrimo again with a target of 300 words a day. It's something that works well for me and gets me into the habit of writing daily. Something that I'm not doing at the moment. Which means that 300 word target is optimistic but hey, I need something to aim for. Plus, I haven't failed to make my count yet and I'm not going to this year either, even if that does mean 300 daily words of rubbish.
If you're interested sign ups are open until the 30th, and it really is a low key kind of thing. You write, you comment daily with your word amount, and that's it.

Date: 2012-10-06 05:24 pm (UTC)YAY for 300words/day!! I'm rooting for you!
I will join my ever fashionable, Write Something You Miserable Fuck, and stick with that. That is usually more my speed.

Date: 2012-10-09 12:38 pm (UTC)Thank you! See, I still hold grudges against that comm. Which is a pity as it fits how I'm approaching writing perfectly at the moment.

Date: 2012-10-06 05:42 pm (UTC)I don't know if I want to watch the new Red Dwarf. All these remakes and restarts of old shows that are so popular these days just feel wrong to me. The atmosphere and feel that made me love a show can never be recaptured in a new setting, it's too much a product of when and where it was made. I really think they should spend their money and talent on making new awesome things instead.
Good luck with mininano! If you worry about the word count you could always start slow. 100 words the first week, 200 words the next, 300 the week after that, and so on.

Date: 2012-10-09 12:37 pm (UTC)I wonder if the daylight fireworks have loud bangs? I'm sure they could make some with muffled bangs at least.
I was surprised to see Red Dwarf was being re-made. Thankfully they don't seem to have changed the set too much. At least up to now when I've seen one episode. But it's still very obvious the cast have aged.
It seems to be all the rage to remake things now. I have to admit I've been watching the new Dallas. Which is just as cheesy as the original. What I can remember anyway.
Yeah, I need to start writing again just to get some words out. Once I do that I'll be fine. I think once I've answered a few more comments I may attempt the next trope meme prompt. I will finish those damn things.

Date: 2012-10-07 09:39 am (UTC)Yeah, that sitting down to actually write helps a lot. I tend to find once I have a goal and start writing daily the words flow. It's just getting to that point.
