It's cold outside
Oct. 6th, 2012 04:49 pmIt's Houghton Feast time around these parts.
The parade has just been happening so steam engines and various floats have been trundling past on the road below the estate and the air is full of that special Houghton Feast smell. Candy floss and chips and petrol fumes from the show ground. Last night was the opening ceremony, not that I went. In fact, I was sitting quite happily watching an episode of The Sopranos when they apparently decided to open things with the shortest but loudest firework display ever. Seriously, it must have lasted all of a minute but they picked the most booming fireworks available. Of course I'd forgotten all about it so about jumped off the couch in shock while cats flew everywhere yowling and growling.
I also watched new Red Dwarf last night. It was weird because they showed eps from earlier seasons close to the new one, and of course those were from ages ago. So it was like watching the crew age 10 plus years in minutes. It's still a show I love, though. It's ridiculous fun.
I forgot to say last time but I signed up for
mini_nanowrimo again with a target of 300 words a day. It's something that works well for me and gets me into the habit of writing daily. Something that I'm not doing at the moment. Which means that 300 word target is optimistic but hey, I need something to aim for. Plus, I haven't failed to make my count yet and I'm not going to this year either, even if that does mean 300 daily words of rubbish.
If you're interested sign ups are open until the 30th, and it really is a low key kind of thing. You write, you comment daily with your word amount, and that's it.
