turpsExcellent news, one of James' pieces at the craft shop has sold! Admittedly, only £8 made, but his first shop sale :D
Rosie sent a text last night that both classes were cancelled this week. I hope she's okay because this is the third week with cancellations now.
The challenge this week is Make a Top Ten list for your favourite standalone media and tell people exactly why you love it. This can be in any format - movies, one shot dramas, novels, short stories, plays, something else not mentioned here. Whatever you like!
My initial thought was films, because goodness knows I go to see enough of them, but even looking at my letterboxd page wasn't narrowing things down. So then I thought, my YouTube history and the videos I like the most. I took out song vids of TV shows, actual song vids themselves, and was left with a list of videos I love and have played repeatedly.
Now, technically, some don't really fit into the standalone media, hell, a point could be made that most of them don't. But they are moments in time that delight me, and I say that's good enough for a squee challenge.

The rooftop dance -- come on, years later, and it's still my number one played video on YouTube. I love this so much.
Katya and Lewis dancing to Creep. This is another video I've watched multiple times. I love it lots.
Nikita and Layton dancing their couples choice, and just, gah!
The Footloose Dance-Off, The Umbrella Academy. I eat stuff like this up with a spoon. I do love a good upbeat musical interlude.
And the dance scene itself from Footloose. I blame this film for my love of upbeat music in films and my enjoyment of confetti exploding over the audience when at certain theatre shows. Seriously, I could watch the worst show and if it ended with me on my feet and dancing in a confetti cloud I'd say I loved it.
Honestly, I could list all of Nikita and Layton's dances, but will stop here. Tango to Vampire, a song I like anyway, they look great, and the dance is fab.u.lous!
Nikita and Sam dance the Time Warp. Nikita and Sam didn't really click as a pairing, the dancing isn't the best, the reveal clothes are terrible. But well, there's a reason I enjoy this video.
I really like the Guardians of the Galaxy films, love Groot, and this opening credit scene is amazing.
Lip Sync Battle - Tom Holland -- do I need to add an explanation?
Jenna Dewan-Tatum's "Pony"| Lip Sync Battle -- I've got a soft spot for Channing Tatum and love watching this as Jenna turns the tables on him.
Deadpool and Wolverine -- the Bye Bye Bye credit scene. Violent and bloody so be aware, but also fun.
And that ends the top ten of my most watched standalone Youtube videos. What they say about me, I'll let you decide. Actually, checking the preview, not only does it say I can't answer a challenge correctly, it says I can't count either. But I can't seem to cut one of my list now. So, welcome to my top 11 I guess!

Ahahaha, no, not Nsync dancing. I'm sure the sdbs will make an appearance at some point. I'm sure I saw a future challenge for the top ten music/music videos. At which point I'll probably do a list of films *g*

Date: 2026-02-05 07:32 am (UTC)Rosie is texting, so that's a bit reassuring, but at this point there has to be something going on for so many cancellations. Especially so as they've all been last minute, like she's hoping to run the classes, but then can't.
I suspect that first video will be my most played for a very long time :D

Date: 2026-02-05 09:39 pm (UTC)I love your list and the rooftop dance by Nikita and Vito is just spectacular. I loved it when they first danced it and I love it still. Nikita has really grown on me over the last few years. I wasn't keen on him when he first started - just thought he was a pretty twink with not a lot going on, but my opinion of him really changed when he went back to Ukraine to get his grandmother out of the country. Also, he is a brilliant dancer and I'm so pleased to see he and Layton's tango on your list.
Katya is, in my opinion, the best choreographer on Strictly and I would find it very hard to pick which one of her and her partners dances I preferred the most. Do you know I have never seen Footloose, which is crazy considering I grew up in the 80s. It's one of those films that's perennially on my list to watch - maybe when Kat, DD and I are in Wales later in the year.
Lip Sync Battle with Tom Holland - just something else. I have that video downloaded (thank you Instagram download app), and I love love love it. It's one of those videos that always cheers me up when I watch it.
And I'm so pleased I was not the only person to pick more than ten and I love your number 11 - Deadpool is always awesome.
Great list, I loved revisiting some of these and checking out the ones I didn't know, and I really really really have to watch Footloose.

I love the rooftop dance so much. When I went to the pro tour and got to see it performed live right in front of my eyes I about levitated from my chair *g* But yeah, I like Nikita a lot, including his unique fashion sense. But his season with Layton will be hard to ever beat for me. I was obsessed that year.
I agree about Katya too, she's amazing and her dances with Lewis showcased her choreography beautifully.
Footloose is such a fun film, not perfect by any means but an engaging feelgood story, and I love how in the Footloose dance scene, they just look like teens having fun dancing, and not actual pros.
I'm glad you enjoyed the list! I couldn't take one away when I realised I technically had too many. Not when I'd sat and thought about some of my favourites :D
