Oct. 20th, 2012 02:00 pmI've been catching up on some reading today, and want to rec The Sound of Loneliness ( Makes Me Happier ) which is the wave three Bob/Mikey story where Mikey is deaf. I read a version of this when it was posted previously, so getting to read the extended version was great. It reminded me how much I love Bob/Mikey as a pairing, and the theme of communication throughout was really interesting to read.
My dad came to visit the other day. Which was nice, but I really need to stop thinking something serious has happened when he does visit. But it's hard not to as he tends to only come up at birthdays and Christmas. It was especially surprising as he didn't call first, so we could have so easily have been out. Though I do think he's started to avoid the telephone now, which is understandable. Anyway, he was having a good speech day and as we weren't at nanna's with a load of people packed in a small space, he could make himself be understood much easier, so we had a nice talk. He's obviously frustrated with his living conditions at the moment. I think I've said before but he and his partner moved into a bungalow years ago, and Pauline's ( his partner ) adult son also moved in with them. Which was bad enough as it's a really small space, but her other adult son has also moved in recently, and is sleeping on an air bed in the hallway. It means dad can't even watch TV or wash dishes in the morning in case he wakes him up. And I do get the need to help your kids, but they're in their 30s and 40s, it has to be time they were living on their own.
I got a comment on a story earlier, and it wasn't until I actually clicked over to reply that I remembered what story it was. I tend to remember the titles of my longer stories, but the smaller ones not so much, especially if they were written a while ago. Hopefully that happens to other people too.
It's a beautiful day today so I intend to get the washing on the line then come back and write more stuffs it. Then watch the final two eps of The Sopranos later. That was one of the first shows broadcast when the Atlantic channel launched, so as I've been watching at a rate of an episode a week, I've been watching that show for nearly two years now. It's going to be weird when I reach the end.
Right, laundry, writing. I can cope with that list.

Date: 2012-10-20 01:12 pm (UTC)I totally forget titles or get them confused when it's a short fic. Also, I forget what I put in a story. I was looking through my bandom fic last night to see if I'd actually written any Pete before, and realised I put Travis in my Spencer/Patrick spy school fic. Totally forgot about that.
Stuffsit. \o/

Date: 2012-10-21 07:18 am (UTC)I've done that before, too. I always tend to remember the big things, but sometimes the little details get lost. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Date: 2012-10-20 02:24 pm (UTC)In related news, so when my brother visited last week, the main gossip I got was that my cousin Doug, who is 40, was living with his parents. But he is kind of a mess right now and moved out in a huff (At which point they removed the stove and refrigerator from the downstairs and said you can't move back in since he is such a train-wreck right now and is being an asshole). Where he moved to, you ask? A tent at a boy scout camp with his equally screwed up girlfriend. It is almost November and he is living in a tent! Plus, apparently they got in trouble with the park rangers for not paying the $60 tent fee.
Just WTF!!

Date: 2012-10-21 12:02 pm (UTC)OMG! Living in a tent is so wrong. It's stories like this that I associate with young people, not so-called adults.
I can't see them having a very good winter.
