It was Andrew's funeral

It was nice, or as nice as a funeral ever can be. It was a humanist ceremony and the lady conducting it had obviously taken the time to get to know him via his family. The stories she told were both touching and funny, and the music played was all modern. At the end the curtains weren't drawn to cover the coffin being trundled away, the first time I've ever seen that happen, and instead his immediate family all walked up and laid red roses on his coffin. Which yeah, heartbreaking moment right there as his family was devastated.


Apart from that, I've been busy finishing stuffsit, which I did this morning. So that's now out at beta.

Fannishly, fandom has been hopping with Gerard's new song, Frank's new song, the Way bros pod cast of love &waybrosalways; and Mikey and Alicia going to the wrestling. As much as I love the photos of Mikey showing off his chest and smirking, the one I keep laughing at is the one where he's hi-fiving the wrestler guy in his tiny shorts because really, who'd have guessed that we'd ever see Mikey doing such a thing? Then again, a few years ago I'd never have expected to see him sleeping next to Bunny wearing a pink t-shirt, so keep on keeping us on our toes, Mikey Way.

As I've been tabbing every fic I wanted to read, I now have four rows of tabs /o\ Which suggests I need to do nothing but read some time. But not tomorrow because I'm off to lunch with augustuscaesar who has travelled from Australia to see me tour the UK again. We've met up for the last few years, and have made plans to go to my favourite beachfront restaurant to eat.

That's it for now, just a quick catch up as I've just spent hours catching up with the ironing -- including at least 10 of James' work shirts, which really, I swear those things breed, plus, they're so hard to iron with pleats and pointed collars and zips on the sleeves -- and still need to have a quick bath.

Thank you! The beta isn't back yet so I've got that to come to, but it should hopefully just be tidying things up, so won't take long.

I did have a good day. Meeting Tara is always great. We don't share fandoms now, and in fact she dropped out of popslash well before I did, but that never seems to matter.

Ironing is the worst. I couldn't get through it without watching TV at the same time.

People gave me very odd looks when I said my dad's funeral was a 'good funeral.' But it was. Very sad, yes, but also moving. And my ex-stepmother didn't make a scene and yell at me like I was afraid she would (she just turned her back on me at the wake) so yeah, that was good too.

It sounds like was a fair bit like Andrew's. People had the chance to put mementos on the coffin before it was removed.

It does sound weird to say funerals are good, but it's very apparent that they can be, especially if you've been to impersonal ones in the past.

It really is. I was at the same place for a funeral earlier in the year and the difference was amazing. Andrew's did feel right, like the lady conducting the service knew him and he wasn't just a name.
