turpsI was talking on the phone to mam earlier. Hung up, and within seconds James phoned. Started to talk to him when someone knocked on the door. It was dad, so James said he'd phone later. Dad stayed an hour or so, left, and minutes later Pauline, his partner, phoned. At this point I'm just waiting for Chris, Kayleigh and nanna to phone and I'll have a relative full house. And ha, a few hours later and Kayleigh phoned too.
Dad's started to bring a bag of grapes when he visits. We share them while he's here, not in a, here's your half, here's mine way, but dad breaking some off and handing them over in little bunches as we eat. He was having an okay speech day but had to keep wandering the room as his legs were seizing up when sitting down. The hospital have assigned him a speech therapist, but it's early days yet, though one thing I do find interesting is how when his words get stuck, which they do often, he can unstick them by saying that 'he can't say *insert previously stuck word* it's like when he's not trying so hard, or has given up on actually saying the word, they can finally be said.
Yesterday I spent a good chunk of the afternoon putting ebooks on my dad's partner's Nook. She's the one who thinks I love Mills and Boon type books too, so I suspect they thought I had dozens of M&B ebooks just sitting waiting to be added to an ereader. Which of course isn't the case. I had to find and then download them, work out how actually use a Nook as my ereader is a Kindle, sort out Calibre because I had visions of all the ebooks I have been transferred onto Pauline's Nook, which, somehow I don't think she'd enjoy the books that I do, and then sort them all onto shelves for her. In the end she had over 300 books, which I hope she actually reads. Not that I hold out much hope considering she's had the thing since Christmas and this was the first time the box was opened.
And, the above was written yesterday, but I was in bed by 8:30 and didn't get the post finished, which is why the timings are now off. So, I'm going to add that A03 hit meme. Top 10 stories in terms of hits.
And the Painted Ponies -- this story has roared ahead in terms of hits, comments and kudos. It helps that it was a bbb that wasn't posted anywhere else, and that I posted when Frank/Mikey was a pairing on the up. I'm glad so many people enjoy it, because I still love Robo boy and the bodyguard who loves him a whole lot.
When Day Is Night Alone -- it's weird seeing this at number two. It's been first on hits pretty much since I posted it at A03 many years ago. But, it still gets read and still gets comments, so people must still like stories of hungry and hurt runaways and the Mikey and Pete's who find them.
It Came From Within. Another Frank/Mikey, another bbb. Gross roomies will always have a special place in my heart.
Nowhereville -- wave 3 from last year, and surprisingly high up as it didn't seem to make much of an impact at the time. Though, against Painted Ponies in the same year, any reaction would have seemed muted.
Like a Bunk and Cramped Sleeping One of my only two Frank/Gerard stories. Though it always seems to be Ray's special towel that gets the comments.
Standing on the Edge Believing -- aka the MCR bodyswap story of ridiculousness and sex that drove me insane.
Mr Bob -- this story has consistently remained in the top 10 every time I've done this meme, and I'm never sure why. Bob/Mikey where Bob is a pre school teacher who has to deal with both his kids and his feelings for Mikey.
Grey Crimson Skies -- the third tints verse story, and another that's always been in the top ten. I love this story, and remain proud I wrote it.
Richard of York ( Let's Start Anew ) -- tints verse story part two, the fluffy middle part which is all Mikey, Frank and flowers.
Tints of Rainbow Hue -- which is fitting these three are grouped together as it's the first tints verse story.

I'm always surprised tints verse isn't higher as that's what I'm mostly known for writing. But, they have been posted elsewhere so I guess that affects the hits.

Date: 2013-04-26 02:08 am (UTC)Glad to know that you and your dad have some cool traditions. Here's hoping his partner will crack open the nook and start readin'. I think it's really interesting how some people have adapted to ereaders and tablets while others haven't.
FWIW, I'm totes biased when it comes to my nook since I was able to dl tons of epic-length fic and carry it with me wherever I went. Using a tablet took somewhat longer. It wasn't until I was traveling to a recent fan convention and found myself dreading the idea of carrying my (not-so-heavy but still bulky) laptop with me. Especially because I knew I wanted something slightly more practical. :)
Aww, the Tints 'verse fics! So much love for them. Also, many snaps for Ponies. I've reread that fic a lot. Hee!

Date: 2013-04-27 11:52 am (UTC)I hope she uses the nook too. I really love my kindle and think if she actually gives it a try she'll fall under the ereader spell.
She's got a nook touch light -- I think it was called that anyway -- just a basic model, and I have to admit I wasn't as keen on it as I am my kindle. Mostly because it seemed to turn pages very slowly and leave imprints of words behind when it did so. Though, I think I read that's been improved on later models. But, I did like how you could have shelves for different kinds of books.
I have to admit, I tend to use my iPad mostly for game playing and browsing a little. I still read mostly on my kindle, and even then it's mostly pro books. I like reading fic on my desktop, especially as it means I can drop feedback as soon as I'm done.
But they all have plus and minus points, and I know I'm lucky to have such a good choice of things to read on.

Date: 2013-04-29 12:04 am (UTC)When my first nook died, I went to the store convinced I was gonna buy the Kindle touch--only to end up getting the nook touch instead. Because my new nook is barely a year old, I really can't rationalize getting the newest version (the one with the integrated light) at this time. Maybe if the price drops substantially on new units, I'll reconsider.
Oh, I mostly use my tablet for watching shows in bed (via Netflix streaming), playing games and browsing. Eventually, I'll buy a small keyboard for it (it would've come in handy while on vacay 'cause tapping on the screen gets old if you're writing anything longer than a quick comment or tweet.)
The majority of my reading (both fic and pro) is via my nook. Basically, anything that's ~20k words and longer gets downloaded. I've gotten out of the habit of reading fic on my laptop unless it's something short. Somehow, I've yet to actually sit down and read on my tablet. Dunno why.
Honestly, to me, I don't think one device is better than any other. In the end, what matters is what are the person's needs (including frequency of use) and what feels comfortable. Like you said, it's great that we've got plenty of choices. Heck, I still remember the days of staying up til late reading epic (100k words) fic on my deskstop. O_o!
