Apr. 26th, 2013 11:42 amJames is volunteering at an emergency services disaster thing today. They needed amputees to help out, so he put his name down
It's a joint exersise they're doing, fire, ambulance, the whole lot, and includes metros going off track, buildings collapsing, people being shot. Really, just everything possible that could go wrong going wrong. He had to turn up in old clothes because there was a possibility he'd be trapped in a small space for a long time while waiting to be rescued, then earlier he phoned to say he'd had some of his chest shaved to create a wound, and that I'd have to shave the rest tonight -- at which point I may have laughed for a long time.
He's just sent a photo of the make-up that's been done, and it's disgusting. Seriously. If anyone wants to see I'll link but I'm not actually posting it here as it's really grisly and has to do with his leg being blown off.
In other less grisly medical stuff. We were at the hospital a few days ago and James is on the list to get his hand operated on to stop his fingers clawing. The doctor said it'll be a challenge, and could go wrong, but at this point it couldn't really get worse. It'll probably be around six months to wait, and I'm fine with that because no matter how many operations he's had, they still always chew me up.
The same evening James had to go pick mam up as she was off her head drunk. She's been sick lately with chest issues. The doctor prescribed steroids, so as soon as she was feeling better she went out, despite knowing the doctor was going to call with results about her xray and blood results. Seems she's got heart issues, just we don't know exactly what as he called while she was out, so of course she can't remember exactly what he said. Now it's a case of waiting for a hospital letter to see just what's up and what tests she needs next. What annoyed me was she got that call just after midday, and decided to stay out all afternoon before calling James at 6. But again, what can you do? Nothing. So yet again it's a case of waiting to see what happens next.
It's a lovely sunny day today, so I've got a load of washing on the line. No idea if it'll dry though as it's still pretty cold. However, we have planted some seeds at last, so now the kitchen window is full of seed trays. Just courgettes and tomatoes so far, but we have turnips and carrots ready to be planted in the raised bed very soon.
So I intend to potter today, tidy the tip and do some writing. I'm alternating between my bbb and a Vikings AU at the moment, and admittedly, not getting many words on either. But still, I'll take any amount of words at the moment.

Date: 2013-04-26 07:28 pm (UTC)I'll send good wishes across the ocean for the surgery. I know what you mean about getting frazzled with surgeries. My niece finally had her appendix out after a good month of abdominal pain, and my Mom just said she might need back surgery. DNW!!
Good luck with the pottering and writing!

Date: 2013-04-27 06:44 am (UTC)He's back there today and is planning on joining Amputees in Action, as they get £150 a day for the stuff he's doing for free. Apparently he's in a crushed building today, so I see a lot of lying around in his future.
Oh man, so much DNW. It doesn't matter how much you know the odds on things going wrong are tiny, and that it's the best thing to do. It's still a lot of worry about people.
Well, I pottered, no writing happened. Maybe today.

Date: 2013-04-27 05:53 pm (UTC)I hope the planned operation will be a success. I promise to keep everything I can crossed and send ALL the good thoughts.
I envy you your sunny weather, it's been overcast here for several days now. And it's still so cold! I hope both we and you will get some warmth soon. And that it will last this time! (I'm waiting for the seed tray of sweet peas in the living room window to show some signs of life. And the begonia and oxalis tubers in the pots in the bedroom. The only things flourishing are the pelargonium cuttings in the kitchen :-)
Good luck with your writing!

Date: 2013-05-27 07:20 pm (UTC)The weather remains weird. It was hailstoning here a few days ago, and then beautiful sun yesterday. Now today we were back at grey and overcast again. It's like we're scrolling through the seasons within days.

Date: 2013-04-27 11:50 pm (UTC)James' emergency services thing sounds like quite the experience. I hope he has photos to save for that special occasion when he needs to show someone how hard he is!

Date: 2013-04-29 12:13 am (UTC)Here's hoping that everything works well for James' operation.
Hmm, I'd totally trade you the cold weather for my local "SUPER HOT ZOMG IT'S SPRING-SUMMER!!! YOU'LL PASS OUT IF YOU STEP OUT BEFORE 6 P.M.!" weather. It feels like this is going to be one extremely long summer season where I live. *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

Date: 2013-05-29 04:33 pm (UTC)I'm with you. I know it was fake but the level of detail was amazing. Plus, it's a lot of hard work at times. One guy ended up crammed in a tiny space for nearly 8 hours D:
I hate hot weather too. If the UK could be kept at a nice 15-18 degrees I'd be happy. Sadly it never works that way.
