Gardening.

If you've been reading my journal you'll have seen that we grow vegetables. We're not experts by a long shot, this is only our fourth year of trying, and we still get a lot of failures. But still, gardening is fun. I picked this picture as I love tomatoes, and tomatoes fresh from the vine are amazing. There's nothing I like better than gathering produce to cook. Not that I love it all of the time. Sometimes when I'm covered in compost and too hot and trying to deal with slugs I don't like gardening at all. But mostly. Love.

Reading.

I've always loved reading. One of my favourite memories when I was a kid was my nanna taking me to Newcastle to buy a book for my birthday and Christmas. First the Famous Five and then Hardy Boys. Growing up I was at the library often, and I honestly don't understand people who don't read at all. James doesn't. He's had a book on his shelf that he's been reading for three years and still isn't past page two. Now I read actual physical books and on my kindle, and always have a few things on the go. Being able to drop into new worlds is an amazing thing.

Cats.

Mam was frightened of cats, and so was the MiL, so I never had a cat growing up and neither did James. When we moved in together we got a dog first, our dearly beloved and departed Tex, and then got a cat. And then kept getting them, which is why we now have four rescue cats. Cats are awesome, but they're also gross at times. For example, every time I've stood in a pile of cat puke in the middle of the night. But I do love them. Our local cat rescue needs cat strokers, people who go to keep the cats company. That would be an amazing job.

The ocean.

I'm lucky in that I live relatively close to the beach, and we end up there often, both summer and winter. There's something magnificent about all of that water, and how it constantly changes. Like a mill pond one day and the next crashing waves. I could watch it for a very long time, and often do so. This is a stretch of beach we go to often. Behind those waves is where I sat with [personal profile] sperrywink and ate chips last year.

Bandom.

And okay, specifically the below guy. I still love bandom a crazy amount, and Mikey keeps a tight hold of my heart. He's done so for a very long time now, and I can't see that changing any time soon.

Dislike.

Seafood.

I just don't like the stuff at all. Fish, prawns, cockles etc, none of it is for me. I'll eat a fish finger now and then, but an actual wet fish? Nope.

If the below plate was put in front of me I wouldn't touch a thing.

Country music.

I'm sure there's some good stuff out there, but it just has too many bad associations for me, when mam used to put it on at ear splitting volume when she was having issues with her ex. Which was often.

Book series that start great but then go bad.

Yes Anita Blake, I'm looking at you!

I loved the series so much when it started, and then it just got bad. Filed with sex, more sex, and with a big old heap of sex on top. Plus, Laurell K Hamilton's refusal to use an editor makes no sense, because damn, does she need one. I was reading the last book of the series that I bought, and she repeated exact descriptions within pages, and had the thing about monkey sex that had me shaking my head.

Then again, while she still has mugs like me buying the books in the futile hope that, this time, it'll be like early days Anita, I guess she has no need for an editor.

I can't think of anything else at the moment.

I tag anyone that wants to do this meme.

I agree with your likes and dislikes. I do eat fried fish, but the rest of seafood is gross.

And, man, needing an editor is such a serious thing! Why do professional writers put us through that misery?

Winkles do not sound appealing. :-P

I am feeling a bit better, but the job situation is worse, so it kind of evens out, unfortunately. Sigh.

Plus it is supposed to rain. Luckily I already picked up my prescriptions.

How's the weather by you?

I will never understand people who don't read. What do they do with their time??!!! (I was so lucky when I grew up, between I was three and ten we lived across the road from the library.)

That cat illo is adorable and so true.

I don't like all seafood, just most :-)

Living so close to the library was awesome! We moved much further away from it when I was ten but I was old enough by then to bike there on my own so it didn't matter that much.

What a neat meme!

Aww, gardening! That's one thing I haven't had the chance to do. Dunno if my thumb is green or not, so I'm always in awe of people who can grow their own food. ^_^

\Reading/! (that's all)

Cats are the lulziest creatures. They'll sit where they please and that's that.

I live ridic close to the ocean too. Unfortch, the beach isn't pretty and I haaaaaaate the heat and humidity so I don't go as often as I could (if I wanted to.)

Eating shellfish will kill me (I'm deathly allergic to any of it). I do remember liking the taste of shrimp, though. :-/
