Aug. 13th, 2013 05:52 pmIn a 'you couldn't make it up' moment, we went to visit mam on Saturday, taking K&K with us, and after they went for a walk after arrival, got a text saying Kay was in the ER. She'd been feeling sick on the way in, and ended up collapsing in the toilets. So, after leaving mam's ward we ended up waiting at the ER for a long time. Thankfully Kay was discharged but still, that was more time than I expected to spend at that place.
Plus, mam had a really bad weekend where she got very close to being moved to the ICU after her blood pressure kept dropping so low it triggered alarms that meant ICU nurses had to come check her out every hour. She's a little better now but is going stir crazy, even more so after the lady she liked in the next bed was sent to a side room meaning mam is now on a ward with three women who are seriously ill and a 20 year old girl who's lovely half of the time but spends the other half screaming for attention.
Corey enjoyed his second week on his scheme, though wasn't impressed with university living facilities. His group ended up organising a charity fair/concert which will happen in a few weeks time. This week he's travelling daily to Durham to finalise last minute things, and then will graduate from the scheme on Friday.
And now it's the day after I started writing this. Had another early night last night, felt good waking up, it was a beautiful sunny day, I planned on writing, some time online after getting some laundry done, then Kayleigh phoned at half seven to say mam was texting saying she was going to discharge herself after a bad night. So I spent the morning phoning mam/kayleigh/the hospital trying to get something sorted. Really what it came down to was mam was out of cope. What with the friendly lady being moved, and then the doctor she saw yesterday was rude and the one she liked and actually knew what's wrong with her was supposed to see her yesterday and didn't. It shouldn't have to happen this way but by phoning and kicking up a bit of a fuss she got to see the doctor who knew something, and another doctor came and had a long talk to her, including apologising for the behaviour of the one yesterday. Plus, we got permission to take her out in a wheelchair. All we did was a circuit to the shop, outside and back, but it's the furthest she's been for weeks and it seemed to perk her up a little. Hopefully it stays that way and there's no more crying phone calls in the morning.
So now I'm home, have had tea and am about to jump in the shower before some quality online time. In which I mean omg, I must try extra hard to focus and write some bbb words.

Date: 2013-08-13 06:56 pm (UTC)I never saw the doctor that apologised, but mam spoke highly of him. It meant a lot to her that he did apologise, even though none of what happened was his fault.
Thank you. I suspect I'll need every bit of luck going.

Date: 2013-08-13 07:01 pm (UTC)Things finally seem to be moving now. They're going to start changing her meds from tomorrow to try and get her blood pressure sorted, and steps have been made in terms of getting her house with a wheelchair etc while we sort out a bungalow. Fingers crossed everything keeps going smoothly.
Thank you. As I've just said to Turlough, I need all the luck going.
