Sep. 1st, 2013 10:17 amIt's the 1st of September and I'm hoping it's going to be a better month than August.
I ended that month by needing to go to the eye infirmary as there was something up with my right eye. It looked like it had a bump on the white part next to the iris, so I figured it was better to get it checked out. Thankfully I didn't have to wait that long to see a doctor, and after a few tests they found out I have a bubble on my eye, which apparently can happen when there's mild irritation going on. So I have steroid eye drops to use 6 times daily for a fortnight. Which is fine, except I can taste the damn things when I use them and they taste gross. That was a bit disconcerting at first but a quick Google showed it was normal.
Mam update. I spent pretty much a full week in meetings with various care agencies and arranged equipment, wheelchair and most important, a rehab team who comes in twice a day to help her get her strength up. She needs that team, especially if she wants to get into a bungalow any time soon as council housing bungalows coming available in this town are like hen's teeth. Since then she's refused to let the carers help her, locked them out once, and in general complains about them always. She also keeps saying she's bored out of her mind, so yesterday we said we'd take her for a drive to the beach, get dinner from the chip shop etc. She wouldn't have to walk anywhere, but she wouldn't go saying she couldn't be bothered to leave the house, and it's a case of, you can't have it both ways.
It's my niece's 11th birthday today and we're off to her tea party later. Just need to drop off a bag of runner beans to nanna first as we've been harvesting and have a glut of them. Also, cucumbers. We've been pickling those, hopefully they turn out nice. We also need to go get mam a birthday gift as it's her birthday tomorrow.
I also post my bbb tomorrow. It still hasn't got a title. I must think of one before my artist tracks me down and threatens bodily harm. Then once it's posted I can read, as there are a few I'm itching to read.
Finally, one of the tomatoes have started to go red \o/ I know that's not really that exciting, but this is the first time in the years we've been growing them they've started to ripen on the vine. Normally we have to ripen them on the windowsill, so to look outside and see a reddish tomato is great.
Finally, before I go off and get a start on the day. I hate the new twitter. Hate it! I didn't tend to back read anyway, now even if I wanted to I couldn't as it's a confusion of repeated tweets and stupid blue lines everywhere.

YAY for BBB! I would recommend listening to some music and picking some lyrics that you like for a title. *tried and true Kimberly method*
And, finally, go tomatoes!! That's awesome that they are ripening on the vine.

Date: 2013-09-02 07:07 am (UTC)Mam will drive me crazy one day. However, yesterday her legs started swelling up again, and because the care team was going in they were able to advise and get their nurse to call up and have a look. So, at last I think she's starting to see the benefits of having them go in. Now I need to arrange for a doctor to call out and see her later, hopefully it's just a case of more medication juggling.
I did listen to music and grab lyrics. Thanks for the suggestion :D
I'm so proud of our one red tomato. Hopefully it's not the only one we get *g*

Date: 2013-09-02 07:12 am (UTC)I did take her advise and ended up with a title at last. Nothing inspired but hey, at least it's called something now.

As for twitter, it is TERRIBLE, but I figured out a solution that works for me. I made a new list and put all the people I follow into that list and check that instead of my feed. The only thing is that you need a different client so you can add yourself to the list (I used my phone's client but I think tweetdeck works). And you don't get retweets in lists. But otherwise it works out well for me.
TOMATOES! \o/ I don't like them myself but my mum loooves them. We have a ton. One morning I came downstairs and the kitchen table looked like this.

I'll have to look into making a list. The way twitter is now is driving me insane. I'm talking to a few people on there atm so my timeline is a mess of repeated tweets & blue lines. Thankfully it's the old version on my iPad but I don't use that as often as my desktop.
Look at all of those tomatoes! They're my favourite things to eat, I could sit and eat the cherry kinds like sweets.

Date: 2013-09-01 06:45 pm (UTC)Oh dear, the situation with your mam sounds quite exasperating.
I hope your nice had a nice birthday party. Also, yay for harvesting all kinds of things! This summer's been very good for all sorts of growing things, both flowers and veggies.
It was very thoughtful of you to come up with a title before I'd to exert myself :-)
Uh, it's the reading page - or whatever it's called there - that's new I take it? Because individual twitter accounts look as they've always done to me.

Date: 2013-09-02 07:59 am (UTC)The situation with mam is very annoying. I just wish she'd look at the long term, because right now no way will she get the move she wants.
It was a nice birthday party. My niece is at the age where she fangirls One Direction hugely -- she had a cake with them on and her and her friend went into raptures wanting a piece of their favourite's face. It's lovely to see bb!fans, even if they're not fannish the way we are. Thank goodness!
Ahahaha, well, I figured it was better to get one to you sooner rather than on the actual posting day.
Yeah, it's the reading page they've changed. Before if you wanted to see what people were replying to you'd just click the expand button, now every single tweet is shown. So, for example I've been talking to a couple of people this morning, and every time they reply to me my original tweet is posted first, then a blue line linking it to their reply. Which is good in theory, but when you have multiple people talking about the same thing it's a huge mess of repeated tweets.

Date: 2013-09-02 03:36 pm (UTC)That's because you're using twitter all wrong! You're supposed to follow celebrities and hang on their every word, not talk among yourselves. That's far too freethinking and anarchic :-P

Date: 2013-09-02 08:23 am (UTC)The situation with mam is all kinds of frustrating. I just wish she could see the carers are there to help, and that having them is a good thing in terms of moving.

Date: 2013-09-02 08:19 pm (UTC)And I'm sorry about things being difficult with your mum again. At least she's home now, and she has the people to help. I hope she comes round to them soon. It kind of sounds to me that she now has this permanent reminder that she can't be independent, and she can't ignore it, and that's maybe why she's reacting that way to them? :S
I must think of one before my artist tracks me down and threatens bodily harm. See, now I know who your artist is, that makes a lot more sense. ;) (Ugh, but titles are the devil.)
As I said on Twitter itself, I feel like they think they've given us something we already had, and in doing so have actually taken it away? O.o I do all my backreading on my phone now, because I have to update the app manually and I refuse to, simply. (It's so weird to have Twitter do an update we hate, and Tumblr give us something we actually wanted. O.o)
And thanks, darling, for being so supportive this morning. ♥

Date: 2013-09-04 04:49 pm (UTC)As for twitter, I'm using Tweetdeck now and it seems to be pretty good! You can just use it in your browser, no need to install anything if you don't want to. Recommended! http://www.tweetdeck.com/
