Thank you so much to
sperrywink,
frausorge,
digital_diva, for the beautiful cards and and
pensnest and
turlough for the cards and presents. They're now under my tree and looking good next to the sparkly deer herd.
Nothing much has changed since last time I posted. Overseas cards have been posted on time -- mostly anyway, I have a stray few that went later and the UK ones will be going out this week. But one thing that has changed is that mam got herself a Christmas tree. I know that doesn't sound much but she's never liked Christmas, especially these last few years. So her asking us to pick one up for her was a kind of wow, moment. It's not some kind of miracle, she's not about to embrace her own sparkly deer herd and listen to Christmas music. But she did watch a Christmas film with me when I was up there the other day, and she has the tree. I'm counting that as a win.
It's going to be a long day today. I've already been to the doctors to get a load of blood tests done first thing -- and have to go back for more tomorrow -- then soon we need to go take my MiL to a doctor's appointment as she still can't get around at the moment. After that I have a hospital appointment that I'm not looking forward to in the slightest, to the extent I wish it was tomorrow already, and then after that we're off out for dinner with my Sil and her partner. It's typical all those things fell on the same day, but they did so it's just a case of plodding on through.
A long time ago I was given a slow cooker that I used often. It's such a convenient way to cook, but sadly a few months back the lid fell out of the cupboard, and despite attempts at repair, couldn't be fixed. Last week I finally got a new slow cooker, and discovered that a 6.5L one is really big. Like, much bigger than we actually need. But, it was a bargain price and it's been lovely to be able to cook that way again, I guess I'll just have to get used to freezing a lot of what gets cooked.
I think the only people who watch Strictly Come Dancing are on twitter, but man, that show. It's had my heart the last two weeks, especially the results part. I'm really looking forward to the final next week, and would look forward to the Christmas special except for the fact Bruce is presenting. I've enjoyed this season a thousand times more with him gone, and it pains me he's coming back to spoil a show that I enjoy so much.
And with that I need to post to MWD and then get going.

Date: 2014-12-17 12:01 pm (UTC)I'm hoping she is enjoying her tree. I'm still enjoying she's made the effort.
And yes, I got through the day, realising that often the things you're most nervous about aren't really frightening at all.

Date: 2014-12-17 09:55 pm (UTC)A slow cooker (or any pan!) of 6.5L sounds gigantic to me. But you're three in the family - with one teenager! - so I guess it isn't quite so big to you, even if it's a bit too large. And freezing leftovers is a great way to get out of cooking every day!

Date: 2014-12-18 04:29 pm (UTC)The pan is gigantic, even with Corey and his amazing appetite. I've got a chicken korma cooking now, which will be more than enough for a few days. Now I just need to find a place to store the thing when I'm not using it.
