Jul. 28th, 2015 03:20 pmMikey and Kristin remain all kinds of adorable.
My Magic Mike story is at beta and I know that
sperrywink is nearly finished hers too, and the other day
inlovewithnight posted a story which meant the fandom will have almost tripled in size soon. Seriously, there's only 7 works on A03, what's up with that?
James just called. He's back on full 12 hour shifts now but he's just had another appointment with his work's oc health and they're not willing to let him work past 2am due to the tablets he's on at the moment. I don't think I've said but breaking his arm has made his elbow drop a little -- both his arms are fixed at the elbow and wrist and have been since birth. All we can figure is the break has disrupted something, and while his arm dropping sounds like a good thing, what it's actually doing is causing a load of pain. His doctor prescribed some powerful painkillers for night-time, and oc health just said, nope, no very late night shifts when you're on them. Hopefully this won't affect his shift allowance for working unsociable hours. Though, considering he still does work to 2am, it shouldn't.
It's raining again. I don't think it's stopped for a few days now. Which is fine, I have nowhere I need to actually be.
And ha, strike that. Dad just unexpectedly called in two days before his normal day. Which is why I've just spent nearly two hours inspecting the garden with him in the mizzley rain. So as I'm a bit damp I'm off to have an early bath. But man, it's so hard when he's got problems going on in his life but we just can't have an actual complex conversation. It takes so much effort on his part for him to communicate, and often it's impossible to understand first time. I've said it many times before, but I'd give so much to be able to hear him talk clearly again, or for him to have his old beaming smile.

Date: 2015-07-28 08:55 pm (UTC)Go you!!
Twelve hour shifts sounds quite hellish to me, but I guess you get used to it. I'll keep my fingers crossed things will work out properly.
It was supposed to rain most of the day here but for some reason it didn't. Very strange. Hopefully you too will get less rain in the future.
It's so sad about your dad. *sends many good thoughts*

Date: 2015-07-29 06:31 am (UTC)And thank you. That pact was a good idea.
Well, the 12 hours even out as he does three days on and three off, but they are really long days, especially when you add an hours commute at each end.
We have sun and blue skies right now. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
It really is. He's so down right now.

Date: 2015-07-29 06:28 am (UTC)I really like the road trip part too, and the dancing is kind of great. Oh, and the body positivity for the ladies is really lovely to see.
Thank you! It's been nice to spread my writing wings away from bandom. It's just a shame it's for a fandom that's pretty much tumbleweed.
It's lovely to see you around these parts, btw.

Date: 2015-07-30 12:13 am (UTC)It makes me so, so happy that you've found that inspiration. Your words are missed.
As someone who is haunting the Sense8 tag, I hear you about slow fandoms. Granted, it's not at the tumbleweed level, but truly tasty snips are few and far between.
That's lovely of you to say. *smooches*

Part of me is v. surprised about this since I've seen a lot about Magic Mike both in fannish and non-fannish spaces. Plus, most people seem to like everyone involved in the film.
It could be that the visuals (gifs and the like) are satisfying enough for some fen? In any case, like I said, there might not be a lot of fic getting posted, but this movie (as well as the one before it) has earned a lot of goodwill from the people.
Though, in all truth, one can never tell what will take off (ficwise) and what won't. For an old school example, I'll point out to HBO's ROME--which, though well-liked, had a very small fic output considering its popularity. Nowadays, I'm seeing that with Mr. Robot. At last count, there were less than 30 fics on AO3. It's got a larger presence on Tumblr, though, really not by much.
12-hr shifts are super tiring. Here's hoping things will work out soon.
*hugs*

Date: 2015-07-29 06:26 am (UTC)A few days ago I woke up, checked my emails and someone had commented on a post with them on mwd, said something then put RIP on the end, and I was like, what?! Have they split up or something overnight. I really didn't like that thought while it was in my head.

Yep. Exactly. I know it's not a movie that's for everyone, but the people who have seen it tend to be enthusiastic. It just doesn't make sense to me that no one is creating for it. Literally 3 pieces have been posted on A03 since it came out, two stories and some artwork. I really am boggled.
Your comments about Rome and Mr. Robot have reminded me of my old school frustrations at the lack of Sliders fic. It just didn't exist back in the day, maybe it still doesn't, I haven't looked for a while.
But that's a good point about the visuals being enough. I never considered that, and it would make sense. Really it comes down to, fandom, you can never predict it.
Thanks for the hugs. They're very welcome ♥

I still haven't seend Magic Mike!! I still haven't seen Mad Max, for that matter. July has been a bit insane. I do hope I'll get the opportunity to see both during my holidays, they're films I really want to see!

Date: 2015-07-29 01:44 pm (UTC)I loved both of those movies so I hope you get to see them. Both are a lot of fun but man, MM has grabbed me. It's just a shame about the total lack of fic. It's the Sliders situation all over again.

Your poor Dad. It does sound like such a frustrating situation for everybody, but especially your Dad.

Date: 2015-08-02 12:01 pm (UTC)Dad's still feeling suffocated. Pauline's son is moving out soon, which may help a little. But it's also taking away practical help for them, so a bit positive a bit negative really.
