Just got back from a daytrip with the in-laws and assorted family. I'll be honest and say that I didn't want to go, mainly because of the early start time. It's Sunday, I don't use my alarm on a Sunday, except today I had to. So we set off far too early after calling at the garage for a supersize cappuccino for me. Got to the in-laws and has a car shuffle so Corey was in the other car and we had mil and fil and set off. We were heading to the Yorkshire moors and soon I was enjoying the drive, once I'd got past the fact that life in fact did exist before 9am on a Sunday *g* The drive was nice and as an act of rebellion at having to get up so early I'd brought a mix CD of SDB songs, that I left on continuous play *eg*

We had breakfast at a little caravan thing on the moors. It was on top of this huge bank and the view was spectacular, all you could see was rolling fields and hills, so pretty. The others all had bacon and sausage sandwiches, in buns that were at least 10 inches wide. I had to have an egg sandwich and another coffee of course. It was also bloody freezing. We stayed there for a while then set off towards Heartbeat country. I don't know if anyone watches that but it's filmed at a village on the moors. But first we went to Whitby, a fishing town. We walked along the river to the sea, and Corey was in raptures over the seagulls. We watched the boats for a bit then moved on again and went to see the steam trains. They're so beautiful, you can see the train chugging along the valleys, dipping past trees and fields, great plumes of smoke billowing out behind. The station we went to was where they filmed for Harry Potter arriving at Hogwarts. We were lucky that a train was just arriving when we got there. I'm not usually impressed by trains but I have to admit this was impressive with the men dressed up in the old fashioned uniforms and the steam belching into the air. It was so noisy too, great big whooshes and whistles as they filled the steam tanks and shovelled coals. There was a ladies sitting room with a real fire and even a black station cat. It was so cool.

Left there and headed to Grassmere after speeding along loads of tiny country roads. The place was quite busy with people checking out all the places that are used for filming so we had a look about then had dinner in an old fashioned pub, which is when I remembered why it is I dislike being with the in-laws sometimes. They're so damn loud! I go on about them but for the most case I like them all, but put them together, and I include James in this, they never shut up. Which isn't that bad but they talk over the top of one another and that drives me insane. If someone is speaking you listen to what they say, you do *not* talk over the top of them to change the subject. All my in-laws do that, you try to talk and get cut off or end up trying to talk to three people at once and it's just rude. So we were sitting having dinner and my head was in bits.

Left there and visited a few other places, and I tried not to fall asleep, I may have failed in that a few times because time kept slipping past, I'm sure I was asleep with my eyes open. We stopped for the last time at Redcar beach and I had this weird ice cream with a yellow sorbet top thing and another coffee then everyone came back to mine for a while and left about an hour ago.

So busy day and I'm tired, and am feeling really sickly and hot just now. I've also just skimmed the flist, skip 100, I've only been gone less than a day!

Thanks for the hugs, I feel much better today.

It was a cool day out, and in fact the noisy in-laws weren't much of a problem at all.

The steam engine was awesome. Like I said I'm not really a transport freak, I don't understand people that get all excited about cars etc but seeing the steam engine roar into the station was amazing. It was so loud with smoke everywhere.

I was just reading about Chicago in a magazine, and that looks so pretty too. I think we've all got home countries to be proud of.

Aw, poor sick Terri.

*hugs*

But your day still sounded _so_ cool, early & noisy in-laws or not! All the sights sound so awesome!

There's nature around me, too, & I only live an hour away from Chicago, so there's obviously a zillion sights there, and my parents retired to a lake, lotsa country goodness out their way... ..but moors! And steam engines! And the sea!

Still sounds way too cool to me. Corey should remember these sorts of days as he grows up
