Day 7

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I consider myself a Trekker.

Voyager is my favourite series of Trek, and Tom Paris my favourite character.

Voyager helped launch me into fandom in so many ways. The first slash fic I read was Voyager slash, and the first mailing list I was active in was a one for Paris/Torres. Now, I was and am still all about Paris/Kim and Chakotay/Paris, but Paris/Torres were also special. They're a couple that shouldn't have worked, but they did, and I loved them and their relationship.

That mailing list was where I cut my teeth on sending feedback, and I used to eagerly check my email to see if any new parts of stories had been posted. In a way I'd love to re-read those posts, but in another it's probably best that I don't, because I was young and giddy and still finding my way in this whole new world of cyber communication.

So yeah, Tom and B'Elanna, one of the first couples that were important to me, one I loved watching and discussing and one that showed there were other people out there who felt the same.

The music video below -- which is sadly low quality -- is one set to Savage Garden's To The Moon and Back, a song that I love anyway, but one I totally believe was meant for this pairing.

They're saying, "Mamma never loved
her much"
And, "Daddy never keeps in touch
That's why she shies away from
human affection"
But somewhere in a private place
She packs her bags for outer space
And now she's waiting for the right
kind of pilot to come

Awww, that was the perfect song for them. I was always more of a DS9 fan, but I loved back in the early 90s when some form of Trek was on my TV at any given time.

Well, the song is perfect, so I'm not surprised you are tinhatted. :-)

I feel you. MASH was my jam growing up for a good 10 years, and even though I knew nothing of fandom or shipping, it was probably the only time in my life I was monofannish.

Hee! That's wonderful (and adorable)! I'm glad they wrote back.

I've seen exactly one episode of Voyager. The science fiction club in Stockholm were having a series of small get-togethers and watching sundry tv shows and one of them was Voyager. I'm afraid I was not impressed :-)

Oh that music is perfect for them! I loved them as a couple as well, and it was great to visit them just now!

Thank you!

You tempt me to watch Star Trek now! (even though I'm not a huge sci-fi person)

Also, I dunno if this was a strange coincidence or not, but on my reading list, there was this post and then another Star Trek gen fic below it. I just thought that was pretty wild.

Oh wow! I'm pretty sure I saw that one on a big screen at a convention. I will just be over here, spiralled right down memory lane.

I didn't know this about you!

Unfortunately, I stopped watching television when I went off to college (the little town I lived in didn't have reception - you had to pay for cable to get even the basic channels) and so I completely missed out on DS9 and Voyager when they happened, and I've just never made the time and effort to back and check them out.
