We've been to Asda today for groceries and James used one of the motorised cart/trolley things to get around. It worked nicely, it mean he could rest his foot and I got to walk the supermarket at much more rapid pace than normal.
Corey phoned earlier and he's been awarded an additional grant. So maybe he'll get to the end of this term with some money left in his bank account. We're meeting him for dinner next Wednesday for his birthday. It'll be lovely to see him, I know it's only weeks but it feels like I haven't seen him in forever.
Nanna had a cataract op yesterday and it went well. We went to see her today and she was saying how she was scared actually going for the op, and that was sad-making because I hate thinking of nanna being scared of anything. I'm just glad she got it because in the run up the eye doctor asked why she wanted her cataracts removed considering how old she is. And I mean, to me that's why she should have them done. She's 96 next week, still gets around on her own and reads loads, of course she's going to want her eyes to be the best they can be.
She also showed us a load of old photos she'd found, and they were fantastic. Pictures of nanna when she was 16 and working in the factories and then on the buses. Ones of granddad when he was abroad and fighting in the war, and ones of my dad and my uncle when they were babies and young kids. I really enjoyed looking at them and hearing nanna explain each one.
Also, there was sunshine which was such a lovely welcome change.

Date: 2016-02-04 09:38 pm (UTC)That's good news from Corey!
I hope your nanna's operation went well! (Both my grandmother and one of my aunt's have had successful surgeries for catharacts. My grandmother's in particular, she could stop using glasses almost completely afterwards.)
Old photos are so much fun!
We'd sunshine here today too. It really makes ALL the difference!

Date: 2016-02-05 12:04 am (UTC)Having a chance to look through old photos with your Nanna sounds lovely. I hope she enjoys her refreshed sight—my grandma had one eye done but wouldn't allow us to pay for her to have the other done to match, and didn't get back to the top of the waiting list in time to have it done on the NHS.
ALso, yay Corey!

Date: 2016-02-05 01:52 pm (UTC)It was excellent news for him. I'm impressed how he went off and found out about the grant and applied for it. He's really grown up a lot these last few months.
Nanna's eye is still a little blurry but I suspect that's to be expected at this early stage. I've heard so many stories like your grandmother and aunt, where the surgeries went really well. It's why I encouraged nanna to go ahead, that way she could read much easier.
Old photos are the best. It's amazing to think some were nearly 80 years old.
The sunshine was so lovely yesterday. It does make all the difference, even low temperatures don't seem as bad when it's sunny.

Date: 2016-02-05 02:06 pm (UTC)I completely agree. I don't know what on earth he was thinking, age shouldn't be a barrier to possible clear sight.
I did enjoy looking through the photos. It was amazing how clear some of them were considering their age.
Amazingly nanna is getting her other eye done next month. I suspect her eye sight has been a lot worse than she's been letting on.
Corey went and found out about the grant himself and applied for it. He's grown up so much these last few months, he's very much a young adult now.

Date: 2016-02-10 08:23 pm (UTC)Wow, I can't believe that Nana's 96!!! I'm deffo giving her two thumbs up for getting the cataract op done.
Old family pics are the BEST! It's so great to get the opportunity to touch the past in that kind of way. :)
I'm also glad that you got some sunshine to enjoy (even though I'm the biggest pseudo-vampire ever. Hee!)

Date: 2016-02-11 05:31 pm (UTC)Nanna's doing great for 96. She still goes out on her own, including bus travel. The only concession she gives to her age is she's nervous about crossing busy roads, so asks any random passing person to help her across.
I agree. I love looking at old family pics. The history in them is amazing.
Considering the temps you put up with I'd have vamp tendencies, too!
