Happy Pancake Day
Feb. 9th, 2016 06:01 pmI've just had pancakes for tea, and am now very full.
Especially so as we were at the Thai restaurant earlier. Dad and Pauline always used to take nanna out to eat for her birthday, and as my cousin is getting married on my actual birthday -- a wedding both nanna and Pauline are going to -- she invited me for an early birthday meal out, too. It was a good time, very nice food followed by a drive to the coast where nanna had a 99 ice cream and Pauline and James hot chocolate topped with mounds of cream.
There was lots of talk about dad, and he was still very much part of us all still. But while eating dinner Pauline was talking about something dad had said when he'd found out Corey had been born and he realised he was now a granddad, and it just about broke my heart with missing him. Then when we went home we went to drop Pauline off first and she asked if we wanted to come in for coffee. Nanna said no because she can't help thinking about dad when going into the house and it upsets her and last time we did take her there she did end up crying so I get it. I really do, but Pauline has to go into the house alone daily, and even though nanna said she'd stay in the car if we wanted to go and have coffee, it's not like I could actually do that. It's only been a few months since he was gone and it's still so hard sometimes and I had no idea what to do for the best.
But, apart from that it was a really nice day and tomorrow we're taking Kayleigh and mam to Newcastle to get Corey and we're going out to eat and celebrate his birthday a day early. James has arranged a really nice gift for him. Corey's been reading the Judge Dredd books, and by coincidence, a few months ago James found out that his new helper at Scouts dad is one of the illustrators for the series. So James asked if he could arrange a sketch or something and he sent down a signed A3 illustration that looks very cool.
For my birthday I've decided to go to Mog on the Tyne, the Newcastle cat cafe. So hopefully that will happen next week.
Other things.
I finished Captive Prince book three and loved it so so much.
I also see Frank caused a bit of a mini stir with his comment on instragram about wishing only the people you follow could comment on your posts. I can't say I blame him for that at all, just from glancing at his comments for every rational supportive comment he has to put up with many more mentioning MCR, Gerard or the extra eye roll worthy, simply, dad. No wonder he gets frustrated.

That's such a cool gift James have gotten for Corey!
Mog on the Tyne looks like a fabulous place. I'm sure you'll have a great time there!
I completely understand where Frank's coming from but then I would never use a service that didn't allow me to lock things I didn't want everyone to have an opinion about.

Mog on the Tyne looks glorious. I hope you have a lovely birthday! And happy birthday to Corey as well, that is a fab present for James to have arranged!

I suspect the only people who were distressed about Frank's comment were the ones who make inappropriate comments in the first place (everyone else is more likely to have been in the "this is why we can't have nice things" camp). I do feel for him, some of the comments he gets are ridiculous.

Mog on the Tyne deffo sounds like a perfect spot to celebrate your birthday at, T.! ;)
Well, I did two super long posts about Book 3 on my journal so I'm just gonna give you a quiet fistbump.
I've heard that people who drop totally wrong comments on famous people's social media accounts do it because they want to be "seen". I mean, some of them truly have NO IDEA of how uncomfortable their faux pas are (because they are that clueless), but I'd say that the majority of them do it to provoke a reaction. Even if it's negative, they process it as making some kind of connection to the famous person.
What actually bugs me is the whole "dad" and "mom" thing. It's terribly creepy (at least to me).
It sucks because Frank's a pretty normal dude who is also extremely sweet to his fans (based on fans' interactions as well as personal experiences). So, as badwrong awkward it was to see the comments (honestly, I pretty much scrolled through them), it was great seeing that the majority of the fans were calling them out and letting Frank know that they too were uncomfortable with that kind of behaviour.

Date: 2016-02-11 02:37 pm (UTC)Mog on the Tyne looks awesome and I am completely jealous.
Sometimes I miss being in bandom, both writing and reading because these are awesome people and it always sucks when people are being horrible.
Would it be rude of me if I asked if you could give me a thorough summary of the Captive Prince book three? I can't afford it and I am soooo curious.

Date: 2016-02-11 05:35 pm (UTC)Mog on the Tyne looks amazing! I'm looking forward to going so much.
Yeah, I'd say the vast majority of people in bandom are lovely and respectful of others. Sadly it's always the others that spoil things.
Not rude at all. But instead of telling you myself I'm going to link you to Luce's post as she wrote two amazing posts about Kings Rising. Which are here.

Date: 2016-02-11 05:52 pm (UTC)That's a good way to describe it. He was very much with us all day, and I liked that he hasn't been pushed away. I try to see Pauline once a week, so will go for coffee once the wedding is over with. Thankfully I've talked to her since and she didn't take what nanna did badly.
Mog on the Tyne looks so good. I can't wait to go and dine with all the cats.
Yeah, I agree. Experience has taught me not to look at comments, but it's impossible to miss the top ones at times, and what some people think are okay to say astounds me.

Corey loved his gift a lot. Though not so much the huge teddy present bag I had it in *g*
I'm looking forward to going to Mog on the Tyne so much. I think dining with the kitties will be a load of fun.
I wish all the people that leave stupid inappropriate comments would realise it would be really easy for him to set up a private account and only allow his friends to see his photos. He shares so much, and some people respond in really stupid ways.

Date: 2016-02-11 06:21 pm (UTC)Mog on the Tyne is a cat lover's paradise. I'm looking forward to going loads.
I saw those posts and loved them *____*
Even if it's negative, they process it as making some kind of connection to the famous person.
That makes sense. I guess for them any attention is good attention, and they're just not understanding that what they're doing is negatively affecting the person they supposedly admire.
Thinking about it, I've seen those reactions before, people retweeting negative responses just because it means the person they're commenting to has personally responded. It's nothing to be proud of, and yet they can't see it.
And yes again to how sweet Frank is to his fans. Which just shows how much the negativity or stupid comments must have got to him. He goes out of his way with positive fan interaction, meeting people, showcasing the things that they send him. He must have been pushed to his limit to even say anything because he's had years of learning to deal with that crap.
And a final agreement to 'dad' and 'mom' thing being creepy!

Date: 2016-02-11 07:48 pm (UTC)LOL, I went totes OTT but then, it's CP so it was fine in the end. ;P
The whole negative comments thing is made of so much fail that it becomes embarrassing. Social media gives some people this idea that they "know" whichever famous person they're following. Because that's how they interact with their own friends.
Out of all four guys, Frank has, imho, being the one who knows how to keep boundaries the best. Gerard can sometimes go off into loops of randomness, Mikeyway (I imagine) is on alert because of the fallout from what happened with his marriage to Alicia, and Ray is super low-key and posts way too sporadically to cause any ruckus.
But Frank's always thrown in bits and pieces of his life, tweeting stuff, etc. So,yeah, it sucks when some fans act up in such a fail-y way.
