Apr. 4th, 2016 12:55 pmAfter a few busy days I intended today to be the day where I got things sorted in the house, got comments answered, maybe write a bit etc. That didn't happen at all.
Just before 4am the phone rang, and nothing good ever happens at that time of the morning. I was expecting either mam or James' parents to have been taken ill, but it was Corey. He said he thought he needed to go to the hospital as he was breathless and having chest pains. James told him to phone an ambulance and we would be through asap.
I swear, I've never got ready as fast, and the cold when I thought Corey could be seriously ill. I mean, I knew he was healthy, but you never know what can strike out of the blue. A little after four and we were on the way to Newcastle, and on the way James got in touch with work as he was supposed to be on a day shift at 7:30. On that phone call he asked and found out Corey's call was classed as a 30 minute ambulance, so we knew then nothing too serious was happening, and yet again I have to say, it's handy having inside people when you want to know about ambulance times.
Got to Newcastle before the ambulance, so decided to drive Corey to the local A&E as that would be faster. He was feeling a little better at that point, but still breathless. Got to the hospital, sat watching two drunks propped up in wheelchairs for a while, then Corey was seen.
Cutting the story short, they think he had a spontaneous pneumothorax, something that's not that unusual in young, healthy men, especially if they're tall and skinny, which Corey is. As he was feeling much better at that point and the xray was okay they thought it had self healed, so he could go home as long as he rested up.
Corey wanted to go back to his flat as he has a lot of course work to finish before term starts next Monday, work that involves his main desktop pc, which has all his programming software installed, and is also huge and a pain to move. Eventually we agreed, dropped him off, went to get breakfast and some coffee, and on the way home turned around, went back to his halls and told him he really should come home for the week.
I admit it, we're overprotective, but he's the only one in his flat right now as the others have gone home for Easter. It just didn't sit right that he would be there alone, and maybe unable to get help if needed. Unlikely I know, but considering it is the holidays, lectures don't start until next week, and that his computer can be moved, even if it is a pain, well that's exactly what we did.
He's now home in his comfy clothes and looks much happier, and I'm glad we did force his hand a little in terms of coming home. Maybe we shouldn't have, but I'd do it again in an instant.
I'll have to tell you all about my weekend in another post and good things happened, but I'm a bit tired right now and need to mainline a few cups of coffee.

Date: 2016-04-04 07:46 pm (UTC)I think you did the right thing in bringing him home even though he was feeling better. No one should be alone after an incident like that, I don't think.

Date: 2016-04-05 09:24 am (UTC)I agree, being alone wouldn't have been right. I would have been a little more reassured if his flat mates were there, but he was the only person in the 8 person flat. That just didn't sit right with us.
