Apr. 16th, 2016 03:02 pmIt's snowing and hailing here today. What's up with that? Less than a week ago it was gorgeous spring weather and I planted some seeds in the greenhouse. Now the poor things will feel like they're sitting in a fridge.
It's been a busy few days so I need to answer the comments on my last post. Which I will do, but I wanted to have time to answer when I wasn't rushed because there's so many smart, insightful and just plain supportive responses. I have to say, I wish everyone who was having a confidence crisis could have you guys behind them, because it helps so much.
Like I said, it's been a busy few days. I've been out often and upping the step count, and buying two tops. I think I'm getting a problem /o\
Nanna also told me she wanted to see me. Turns out as she gave my cousin money for her wedding back in Feb she wanted to give my brother and me the same. But it turned into this whole serious conversation about her eventually dying and how she's not feeling well now but wanted us to be happy and have the money now and of course, dad was mentioned. And I ended up shedding tears yet again.
James had a hospital appointment about his foot. It was a different hospital than usual so to make sure we got there in time we went early, but didn't expect to be an hour early. It turns out he knew the person he saw, she used to be a nurse on the orthopaedic children's ward and was there when he opted to lose his leg and when he had operations on his foot. So they had a good catch up about the people they knew back then. He's been referred to have a foot cast done so they can make him a special insole for his boot which hopefully will stop his foot turning. If that doesn't work they can move onto actual special boots, with a calliper as the very last option. He really hopes it doesn't come to that because while they work it's a big thing to wear constantly. James actually wore one when we first met but got told he didn't have to wear it a long time ago, so fingers crossed it doesn't get to that stage again.
Finally, Musketeers! They first ep has shown elsewhere in the world but won't show here for weeks. How is that fair? It is not! But while watching the snow fall I finished off my kink meme fill today, so if you ever read Musketeers it's below. Not beta read as I was just playing around, but as I had fun I think I'll be writing for the fandom again. I mean, how can I not with such a delicious source as this

Date: 2016-04-17 03:38 pm (UTC)Awww, Nanna! I talked with my Mom, and she said my Aunt Lee turns 90 next March. Crazy! She is as energetic as your Nanna, but is also decluttering her house just in case. I guess everyone slows down eventually.
Good luck and fingers crossed for James.
And you finished your story! Go You!

Date: 2016-04-17 05:42 pm (UTC)It's so weird seeing nanna slowing down. She's not decluttering but keeps talking about how all her stuff will be thrown in a skip when she dies. I think she's just tired now and missing granddad and dad and all of her friends who have gone. Which is understandable, but I still hate to see and hear it.
Thank you for both. I'm pleased with the story, and considering it's gen am surprised at how many people have actually read it. I think I'll try slash next, and also get it beta read. Goodness knows what badness is in those words!

And then come and talk to me about Len and Mick!
(And yeah, you are still about 5-6 episodes behind, but you have gone through some of my favorites.)

Date: 2016-04-17 06:00 pm (UTC)Poor Nanna, yeah. I can't imagine how it will be when everyone with shared life experience is gone. It is heartbreaking.
I am reading your story! Bit by bit between tasks, but so far the first chapter was peeeerfect. I love your Aramis voice.

*hugs you*
How cool for James to meet an old nurse. I hope the special insole thing will work out for him. *sends lots of good thoughts his way*
Congratulations to finishing your WIP!

Date: 2016-04-18 10:03 am (UTC)These last few eps have been interesting, so many of them are changing, especially Len. I mean, he's never been all black, but the grey spots are becoming more obvious.

Date: 2016-04-18 10:08 am (UTC)I really like my new clothes. Sadly it's still too cold for one top, but hopefully soon.
♥
James had such a good talk to his old nurse. From what he says they were a close group back then, mainly because along with James there were couple of other kids around his age who had serious orthopaedic problems that meant they spent a lot of time in hospital. So it was nice they could have a good chat about old times.
Thank you! I don't know if I'll do a wip again as it felt weird doing so for a story that was less than 6k. But it was fun thing to do this once.

Date: 2016-04-18 12:47 pm (UTC)Awh Nanna - it's never fun when people start to want to have that kind of conversation... I get where it's coming from and I don't think that it's morbid from their perspective particularly, but it's not easy. *hugs to you*.
How nice that James knew the person he was there to see - I imagine that it was nice to have some familiarity in an unfamiliar place (I did see your insta - was that the place with wifi?) and *fingers crossed* that everything works out with the insert.
I think it's really hard not to buy new clothes to go with the new shape...have you set yourself a clothing budget? I found that quite helpful (and it ultimately made me a bit less spendy because I wanted to save it up for bigger ticket things, but initially it was really to avoid guilt).

Date: 2016-04-19 03:16 am (UTC)(It might not seem like much, but I've deffo cultivated my hermit tendencies like it was my job. In part, it's because I'm rather shy and have also had a bit of social anxiety. Except around fangirls. If I'm hanging out with fannish people, then I can be more outgoing/handle interacting with people a lot better. The sad part is that there really aren't any fannish people locally so then the hermitting begins and, well, yeah, vicious cycle...) /o\

Date: 2016-07-04 01:44 pm (UTC)He's trying out the insole now but I suspect he'll need to try something else as it's not really helping. But, it was only the first try.
