May. 16th, 2016 08:29 amA quick catch up before I go tackle my in-box and read my flists, all of which are out of control /o\
Swimming is working so beautifully well for me. We've been three times since I last posted so decided it made sense to join the gym and therefore could go as often as we like. I've been managing 50 lengths each time, which isn't as impressive as it looks as it's only a small pool. I'm still the slowest swimmer there most times. Even so I'm loving swimming, the water takes the pressure off my joints and I just enjoy the whole thing. James is also enjoying it too, though he tends to do a couple of lengths and then spends the rest of his time in the sauna and jacuzzi. He's said his back has been feeling better lately and thinks it's the heat helping his muscles relax. He's also bought a noodle to swim with, as due to how his arms are he can't really swim easily on his front. The noodle helps with that.
We've also got our changing down pat now. After the first time I've always taken moisturiser, shampoo/conditioner and shower gel, and leave the place feeling great. The staff are really nice too and last time we were there the gym manager said he was going to order a chair to stay in the family/disabled changing room, instead of someone having to take one from the hotel each time. There's also a notice on the wall as you walk out that I like, it says, 'slow progress is better than no progress' and that's something good to remember as I leave.
Corey is coming home from uni for the summer at the end of this week. Which means I must sort the spare room out so he can store all his stuff there until September. We were dropping something off to him at his halls at the weekend and it didn't feel like five minutes ago I was a snivelling mess leaving him there for the first time, and now he's finished his first year. He's grown so much in this year, made new friends, learnt new stuff, and shown up on FB drinking in clubs many times. Last time we talked I asked if he'd miss halls, and he said no. They've been more of a means to an end for him, he's made friends with his flatmates but his best friends live elsewhere, so he's getting a house with them for the next year.
Wedding wise. I give huge props to anyone who organises a big formal wedding because even my small one is frustrating. At times it's like herding cats, though surprisingly it's nanna that's caused most of the issues. She's still not well and was worrying about getting to the registry office. I told her she was going with me, James and Corey, but she wasn't sure about that as it wasn't traditional and just, gah. This is not a traditional wedding anyway. It makes sense for us to take her, especially as she'll be with Pauline and her daughter once we're there, so it's not like I'll be looking after her all day. Then mam kept saying she understood where nanna was coming from as it wasn't traditional, and just. Head meet desk.
At least the meal venue is firmed up, and we've got an open invitation to any friends and family who aren't attending the meal to turn up from 6 onwards.
The garden is looking nice, I've planted up a load of flowers and have the first tomatoes in pots -- hopefully to dad standard ♥. Sadly we've lost a lot of seedlings due to the weather. It got so beautifully warm, then the temp dropped badly and we had no sun for ages, and it did the seeds no good at all. The courgettes especially were wiped out, and they're usually indestructible.
Tomorrow is James' last day at work before he breaks up for three weeks as part of his annual leave. Tomorrow he's also doing a photo shoot as he's going to be part of the ambulance service's photo literature to show how inclusive they are. Of course he's very happy about that, it's the kind of thing he loves.
Wednesday we've imax 3d tickets booked to see the new X Men movie, and I'm looking forward to that.
I finally watched the Entourage movie. It was okay, the plot was almost non-existent, but after watching the series for so long it was nice to say goodbye. I'm glad I didn't pay to go see it, though.
It was Eurovision on Saturday. While not as crazy as some years it was still fun, especially when it looked like Australia -- that well known European country -- was going to win for a while. I loved the parody that was shown, it summed up Eurovision perfectly, because yes, half naked drummers are always a thing. You can see that here. I also enjoyed Justin, and as he said he'd watched the last two shows I'm now imagining him having Eurovision parties where he gets very drunk downing shotswith his mom each time something 'eurovision'ey' happens. Half naked drummer. Drink!

Date: 2016-05-16 08:16 am (UTC)Weddings bring out the weirdness, they really do. J, my work-friend, is organising hers at the moment and I'd frankly cheerfully go and strangle her mum for her right now...
I'm so pleased to hear that the swimming is going so well - it sounds like a really good fit for you both, for what both of you need :)

Date: 2016-05-16 08:53 am (UTC)Weddings seem to bring out the worst in some people. In my case I take refuge with the in laws who are genuinely excited about the day, have their outfits all ready, including a hat for my mil who never gets dressed up usually, and keep telling us to do what we like no matter tradition. I hope your friend gets to her wedding as stress free as possible.
Swimming is a fantastic fit for us both. I think James has fallen in love with the jacuzzi, he just sits there soaking and chatting away to anyone willing to talk back.

Date: 2016-05-16 03:39 pm (UTC)it's so hard to believe that Corey is already done with his first year at uni - he can't possibly be that old (or maybe I'm just getting old. naaaaaaw)
sorry you're getting pushback wrt the wedding, but stick to your guns and do what makes sense for YOU. I'm sure it will be a lovely day once you survive the lead-up/planning process :)

Date: 2016-05-16 09:37 pm (UTC)And OMG, jacuzzi. Sometimes I will take a book (suitably trashy and charity-shop-sourced) and just sit in there and read. Mmmmm warm. Glad it's doing so well for James!
I'm still sure Corey can't be old enough to go to uni, let alone come home for the summer! But he sounds all organised for next year.
Best of luck navigating the wedding upsets. It's something about weddings, perfectly rational people start losing their minds over things you'd never even thought of...

Date: 2016-05-17 09:26 am (UTC)Sitting and reading like that sounds amazing, and so relaxing. It's like my bath and book time supersized *____*
Corey's amazingly organised. Though he did just get asked for an unexpected first month's rent which we've had to scramble to pull together. But, that's been sorted and everything is good to go now.
You're telling me about people losing their minds. A few weeks back mam asked if we were having flowers, and I said that I was thinking of carrying a bunch of sunflowers because I like them. And she protested saying they wouldn't match the colour of my dress. And just, that isn't an issue to me in the slightest.

Date: 2016-05-17 09:30 am (UTC)If you're getting old so am I. It's hard to believe he is done with his first year. Things flash by so fast.
I'm sure it will be a lovely day, but the planning is at that stage of being a bit stressy right now, and that's just with something very low key.

Date: 2016-05-17 10:50 am (UTC)I've never organised a wedding - my stepmother did mine, and my sister did her own with great aplomb, so I can only guess how many things turn out to be Terribly Important which you hadn't thought of beforehand. If anyone tells you you must have monogrammed paper napkins, flee. (And sunflowers go with Everything. I have a new friend who's getting married this summer, who gave out sunflower seeds to lots of her family so they could grow the flowers for the wedding, which is a *brilliant* idea.)

I feel like Corey just started sixth form a few months ago. And now his first year at uni is already over! O_O

Date: 2016-05-17 05:30 pm (UTC)Gaaah, the wedding planning deffo sounds stressful. Why is it that everyone seems to want to make sure that you acquiesce to what they think is right? With all the respect due to someone of her age, Nana needs to chill a bit. It's time to take a lot of deep inhales and slow exhales, I guess. :-/
Entourage totally passed me by. It's kinda weird since I do like Hollywood gossip as well as history, but I just think that no one in the cast pinged me/caught my attention so I never watched it. From what I've heard about the movie, it was more like a 2 post-series episodes that were couched in the way thing were like during the series' time period. So it was kinda retro and v. douchy? IDK.
Let me know how you enjoyed the X-men movie. It's not my fandom and I'm not going to see it (my love for the movies stopped at X2 which was a while back). But I'm curious to hear what you think about it.

Date: 2016-05-17 05:50 pm (UTC)Corey is being so grownup. It's both fantastic and scary. I hope the house thing will be a great success.
I feel for you. What is it about weddings that turn otherwise mostly sensible people into raving lunatics?! If you can't get them to stop any other way you can always try telling them you and James are eloping so there won't be a wedding :-)
Too bad about your seedlings. Some years just are like that but it still sucks to see the little things die. Hopefully the ones that survived will grow and flourish.

Date: 2016-05-17 07:15 pm (UTC)Love Love Peace Peace is the only thing I've seen from this year's Eurovision, but it was clearly the best bit. :D
So Justin did indeed have some idea of what he was getting into! It seemed like such a weird idea at first!

I know!

Date: 2016-07-04 10:50 am (UTC)Love Love Peace Peace was totally the best bit of Eurovision. I love how they can laugh at themselves so easily.
I thought Justin being there was weird too, then I was listening to someone on the radio saying how Eurovision is this huge thing watched by many countries and millions of people the world over, so is great for promotion. Thinking of it that way it does make sense. But even so, Justin at Eurovision

Corey's excited about his house. Of course I still have worries about him being able to pay the bills etc, but he is sensible. Mostly.
