We've been waiting for information about dad's estate for a while now, and this morning the letter

You may remember despite being together for 25 years and living together for nearly all of that time, Pauline wasn't entitled to any of dad's pension because they weren't married. Well, the solicitor has managed to get 6k from the fire brigade, which is being split between me, my brother, Pauline, Corey and my brother's two children. It's a nice bonus which we didn't expect, but still way below what Pauline would have got as his wife. Plus, while I should have good feelings toward the solicitor for sorting that out I don't, because she's been so bad in terms of communication.

In the last month my brother has had to constantly ask for information, because she wasn't telling us anything, and then now that she has, once I've talked to Pauline it turns out nearly 1k of tax rebate hasn't been included. So that needs to be chased up. That one is extra frustrating because a cheque was sent to Pauline made out in her name, but because she's been determined to be completely fair in terms of dividing money she gave it to the solicitor at the start of the year, and now there's no mention of it.

Hopefully it's just an oversight because when I got the letter this morning I was feeling hopeful that finally things could be completed.

It's still so weird thinking what I want to spend the money on, because we've never had any significant amount of money. I mean, it's nowhere close to being life changing, but enough we can update our kitchen and bathroom, and more importantly, have a small savings cushion behind us.

I've just been looking at bathroom sites, but closed the tab because while I really want to update our dingy and very small bathroom, thinking about how much it would cost is too much right now. But a big deep bath where the side panel doesn't pop off. Actual pretty tiles that aren't white and cracked in places. Taps that match and a sink that doesn't leak at the joins.

As for the kitchen. I dream of shelves built in the corner and one of those thin floor to ceiling cupboards that roll out. Cupboard where the doors haven't warped and a kick-board that actually fits against the floor. Hell, maybe even new flooring.

And then Corey would have his money and not worry about his first year in shared housing and would get the gaming laptop he's been dreaming about.

But, no more thinking about it for now as the money won't be released until around the beginning of September. And that's if the tax money doesn't cause a problem.

It was lovely to see so many people post that Nsync photo, and how many trickc comments were made. Obviously of course!

I'm sure most people will have seen this too but Beth linked to a short video of Justin roasting JC -- sadly not as interesting as it sounds -- which you can see here and happy birthday singing here.

I also like this pic where Chris is still hanging on, or has JC in a headlock, you decide. And because I can be kind and see more than trickc, some juc here and a blinding Joey grin.

In fact, that whole tumblr is worth a look.

ETA: Forgot I was going to link to this photo of Milo. Isn't he a beauty? *g*

Huh, so it's a bit of "good things (bit wait" type of news. It does suck, as you mentioned, that Pauline's share was less than it should have been--considering how long she was with your father. But something is better than 0.

That solicitor would've gotten on my nerves, LOL! Here's hoping that ever gets straightened out soon.

Seeing those pics of the n'sync dudes made me cast my mind to what the guys from MCR will be like when they hit their 40s (which isn't THAT far away.)^_^

Wow, that solicitor (or someone in her office) is kinda inept, eh? I'll be cheering Pauline on to get the solicitor cracking!

TBH, yeah, the MCR dudes look fairly the same. #Howdotheydoit? ;D!

Don't let go of that tax rebate business! I've been working on some ancient shares my father had - when he died eight years ago, my stepmother for some reason never bothered to change the name on the certificates. Nor to cash the dividend cheques, which were all very tiny, only about £5 each so I suppose perhaps it never seemed worthwhile. But, they are going to give me £200 in unclaimed dividends dating back to 1996!

So there is no reason on earth why the cheque you are entitled to cannot be renewed. And if it can't, why the solicitor whose incompetence caused the problem cannot pay you the money anyway. Good luck!

Just reading about that solicitor makes me grind my teeth in frustration. I don't know anything about how the British system works but I still echo Pen's advice, don't give up on that cheque!

My what baleful stare Milo has! He doesn't look like he approves of photographs AT ALL :-)

Seeing those guys together makes me feel so old... seeing JC look... the same? They all just look happy and it makes me terribly happy as well.

That was some high level mumbling bs right there wasn't it? Sorry about that, nsync still makes me feel like a 13 year old again.
