First, [personal profile] sperrywink is running a Goodnight/Billy exchange, right here. If you've seen the new Magnificent Seven movie I'm sure you'll agree there's a need for such a thing.

Second, thank you [personal profile] dine for the postcard and message. It was very much appreciated. ♥

The cheque for my dad's estate finally came through last week

It's gone straight into a savings account as we have plans, and they don't include frittering it away. We've someone coming to measure the bathroom ready to pick a new suite, get the walls tiled etc on Tuesday, and we also plan to replace the kitchen. We also want a new bed and to redecorate the living room and hall.

As long as we stick to budget options we should be able to do that -- just. We're starting with the bathroom as it's a very small room and shouldn't take that much doing. But as you all know, I do love a good bath and I'd love a really nice bathroom with pretty tiles and a floor that doesn't always look grubby.

My brother is the manager of a kitchen firm and he said he'll get the kitchen stuff for us if we want and use his discount. Thing is, it's a high end kitchen firm so I'll have to see what the savings actually are before saying yes. But I have so many plans and wants, including one of those ceiling high cupboards you can pull out and those pull out things you can put in dead corner space cupboards so you can actually see everything inside.

It's exciting to make these plans, but I'd still give back every penny to have dad back, and the anniversary of his death coming up so fast isn't helping with that. But, I know he'd be happy we're planning practical things.

On the same theme, James is getting the special toilet, at least it looks 99% sure that he is. The rep for the toilet has to come out to the house to check it can be fitted okay, and after that it's just a case of getting the grant sorted, which is good because after checking online and then going to look at the things in person, they cost up to 2k.

Weirdly, the toilet rep is another scout leader that James knows. He said it feels a bit strange that he's going to have to discuss toilet needs with a sort of friend, but at the same time, at least that person knows James' needs.

We went to see Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children and really enjoyed it. I do think it was rated a bit low, though. A lot of young kids went to see it, with one grandma and her granddaughter walking out after half an hour or so, not surprising as it was really creepy in that Tim Burton Way.

I got a letter from the doctor saying the lymphodemia clinic wouldn't take me back on yet but would happily reassess that after I'd lost a significant amount of weight. I'm not too disappointed about it, yeah, my legs look horrible but I can get around okay, have gained confidence to go swimming at my small pool and wide legged trousers hide a multitude of sins. It's just a shame that significant amount of weight is so vague. I guess all I can do is see what happens next year.

One week and two days and I can leave puree stage behind \o/

Thanks for the promotion! I need all the help I can get, ahaha. /o\

And yay for home improvement! Wise use of the money. And yeah, it is always weird using inherited money/things, I find. Back when my grandma died in the 1990s, we were cleaning the house and collected all these tickets that her favorite cigarette company had included with packs of cigarettes. You could use them to get things in a catalogue still, so we split them up and each got something. (as an aside, I picked binoculars), but it was bittersweet since she died of smoking related health issues even though she had quit like a decade earlier. So yeah, weird.

Good luck getting through the puree period, and going forward!! Still sending good thoughts and rooting for you!

Go you for being all responsible with the money from your dad! (I know I would be terribly tempted to spend at least some of it on completely frivolous things.) And yes, a proper tiled bathroom is awesome and so are pull-out kitchen cupboards! (I hate having to stoop and try to peer through the things in front to find out where I put something.) All the good luck with the planning and budgeting and everything!

That sucks about the lymphodemia clinic. They should really use a less vague and subjective term than "significant amount". Significant in proportion to what? Significant for whom? *sends all the good thoughts*

A week is soon over and then you won't have to look a puree in the face ever again!!
