It was snowing this morning and actually stuck for a while. It's also turned much colder and with the clocks going back tonight, winter really is inching closer. However, it's sunny right now and I've been watching the birds feed. I refilled all the fat ball holders, and the seed holders, and the nut holders. The stupid feathery things cost us a fortune but are worth it.
James is back at work today. Unfortunate timing as he'll be going off again in a fortnight for his back procedure and it would have been better to have one continuous period of sick. But it's not like he could control being shunted. He's looking forward to having the procedure done as he's suffering a load with back pain, no doubt made worse by being thrown forward like he was. He's getting physio via the insurance, he went to his first session last week and will go again on Tuesday, right after my shoulder class. So we'll both be good for nothing Tuesday afternoon.
We went to see Bohemian Rhapsody and it was amazing! I know it's not really getting good reviews in the press, and some comments I understand, but everyone I've talked to has really enjoyed the film, and the music is fabulous. I could happily watch the last twenty minutes over and over again. And in fact, we've already seen it twice since it was released on Wednesday. Both times I've come out wanting a Brian May of my own, the guy is just so good and steady.
On Thursday we went to see Miss Saigon at the theatre. We went to Hadrian's Tipi first. It's this huge tipi that's surrounded by street food carts and has trestle tables surrounded by heaters and open fires. It was smoky and hot and I had a disappointing chicken wrap, but the atmosphere was perfect, and will be even more so when decorated for Christmas. The show itself was... well, I'll just say, wow. We went in knowing nothing about the show, so were surprised when the attendant told us there was no spoken dialogue, just songs. And in fact during the first scene I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but it just got better and better, and the ending. Man. I could see it coming, but even so. Again we had good seats, and doubt we'll ever try for dress circle again, the stalls are where it's at.
It was the anniversary of dad's death yesterday. It's hard to believe it's been three years already.

Date: 2018-10-27 03:39 pm (UTC)it sounds like you've enjoyed some great shows; I hadn't known that Miss Saigon had no spoken dialogue, that's v. interesting. and because I'm old and fell hard for Queen when they first appeared on the charts, I've idly thought I should go see Bohemian Rhapsody - your report redoubles that interest!

Date: 2018-10-27 07:25 pm (UTC)I got a surprise when we were told about the no spoken dialogue thing. But that quickly became normal, and it was easy to follow the story.
As for Bohemian Rhapsody, I really do recommend it. I know it's getting some mixed reviews, but for pure entertainment that'll have you kicking your feet at the famous songs, it's perfect. I've never seen so much chair dancing at the cinema.

Hmmm, of all the theater I've seen, I've never seen Miss Saigon. I'll have to keep an eye out for a revival of it.

I knew nothing about Miss Saigon, and really did wonder what we'd got ourselves into when we were told it was all singing. But it was amazing how quickly it became normal to follow the story via songs.

Date: 2018-10-29 10:24 am (UTC)I'm sure James will be fine, just bad timing to hurt his back again in the shunt.
We are having fun at the movies and theatre. No shows until Feb now at the theatre now, though. Well, up until now.

Yay for good shows!

Date: 2018-11-04 05:46 pm (UTC)Miss Saigon was great, and not what I expected at all. One day I'm going to be caught out and watch something terrible going to these shows unspoiled. Thankfully it hasn't happened yet.
