In the most trivial not-problem ever, we've upgraded our Sky package to Q. We've been with Sky for nearly 20 years and the price just kept going up and up. Went to talk about that and after some messing with figures it turns out it'll cost us less to upgrade to the new Q service that lets you record an insane amount of tv, can record 7 channels at once -- though really, while we do have recording clashes at times, I can never see us needing seven things recorded at once, and comes complete with Netflix and an upgrade to fibre broadband. However, it also means when we change boxes in a week or so, I'll lose everything I've got recorded on the DVR right now. Which is a lot. Including full seasons of Supernatural, Outlander etc and a ridiculous amount of Masterchef Australia episodes. So I've been getting my square eyes on at night. Good thing that I'm a pro.
I am looking forward to accessing Netflix easily on the TV. Right now I watch on my fire and James on his phone, so it'll be good to see shows on a big screen.
Mini nano is going okay in that I've exceeded the total so far. But that's not something to be too excited about being as I picked a 100 word a day target and it's only day 3. But hey, I did it, so score. I'm poking at Musketeers in Space, mainly because I have nothing else to work on atm. It doesn't look like exchanges are happening so I guess I'll have to force my rusty brain to think of ideas without prompts.
Talking of. The popslash secret santa ended this year. It's understandable but still sad to see. I'm very glad that I joined last year and actually submitted a story. I'd like to think that a story based around sparkly unicorns was a fitting end to my popslash time, it seems appropriate, anyway. I have huge respect for Pen and Nopseud for running the challenge for so long, and to Pet and Georgina for the years they ran it beforehand. 2001 to 2017 is a huge run, and I'll forever have great memories of the challenge. The highs and the lows, the excitement of getting those emails that could cause dread when you got a pairing that seemed daunting and the excitement of receiving your own fic. So many excellent memories that will forever make me smile
So sparkle on the writers, the feedbackers and especially the mods. Sparkle on ♥

Date: 2018-11-03 06:42 pm (UTC)FTR, I freaking LOVE watching Netflix (as well as YouTube) on TV. I've watched entire series on my phone as well as my tablet, but it can deffo be a hassle. ;)
If anything, streaming from those sites is exactly the reason why I rarely (if ever) watch regular TV.
Yays for doing Mini Nano. Here's hoping that you get all those words down. :)
Wow, that is a long run! As you know by now, I waved good-bye to Bandom_Holidays. In some ways and even though it was a way shorter run than the Popslash exchange, it felt weird to step down. However, there was a wave of relief because I have plenty of other projects to focus on til the end of the year. It would've been absolutely unfair to run that if my heart wasn't in it too. :-/

Date: 2018-11-04 10:15 am (UTC)Ah, yeah. This new service lets us watching YouTube on the tv as well, which will be great. We haven't got a smart tv so the only way previously was to connect using a chrome cast etc, so I'm looking forward to accessing in an easier manner.
I've been watching Grace and Frankie on my fire and am on the last few episodes of the latest season. Maybe I should wait and celebrate the new service and watch the actual last ep on the big screen *g*
I'm sure it did feel weird. I think it always does when you put time and effort into something and then have to step back, because along with that time and effort you put in your heart. I ran quite a few challenges and comms in popslash, and giving those over always felt like a big deal, that in a way I was taking yet another step away from a beloved fandom. But you're right, it would have been unfair to stay when my heart wasn't in it, so I think you've made the right decision.

Date: 2018-11-04 04:45 pm (UTC)I tell ya, watching the TV shows on the *actual* TV is greatness. ;)
TBH, I think I've become less fearful of change (as long as it's for the better) and less clingy about certain things (such as modding, frex). And, if Fandom's taught me anything is that there will always be someone else to whom I can give my Mod!hat/cheerleading pompoms/what-have-you when I've moved on from a fandom.
The strangest thing is that, unlike other times, I'm still tremendously fond of the MCR dudes. It's my oomph (or enthusiasm) for creating fanworks about them that has gone dormant. Anyhoo, I've been musing too long and there's a crapload of stuff I gotta tackle. :*

Eighteen years of sparkly santa stories is fantastic achivement. To think that popslash had such staying power!

Date: 2018-11-04 10:08 am (UTC)Well, thank you. It's nice to be writing again. I got a shock when I realised just how long it had been. Now, I just need to find that elusive fandom that makes me want to write and not just read.
18 years is amazing. The challenge had an amazing run, with consistently good stories.

Date: 2018-11-08 01:09 pm (UTC)We really did.
It's also where I've met my longest lasting online friends, which says a lot.
