Feb. 7th, 2019 03:45 pmThank you
turlough for the birthday card and present. I haven't opened it yet, but am thrilled to have a surprise to open on the day.
romantical offered ficlets for more joy day and I asked for Clint and/or Bucky meeting MCR in her Warped MCU verse, and I've just read it and it's delightful!". If you enjoy those fandoms, go, read.
My beautiful old lady Freesia had to go to the vets yesterday. She's 18 and hasn't been for many, many years. She was so frightened going and I had to pin her to me to allow the vet to check her over. Turns out she's got an ulcer in her ear, so is on antibiotic drops and tablets for that. She has them twice a day and hasn't been shaking her head as much, so I'm hoping they're starting to kick in. She's also got bad teeth that will need removed via an operation. The vet said it's just an old age thing, but they will need doing, which means more money.
Stupidly we never insured any of our cats. We just didn't think at the time, especially as they're all house cats, and of course now it's too late as even our youngest is ten. The vet we go to is lovely, it's where we take Megan -- mam's cat -- so we have a good relationship with her and she allowed us to split paying the bill, and when Freesia goes in for her teeth we'll apply for the credit scheme as it'll be much more expensive. But, has to be done because we're not about to allow our cats to suffer because we didn't think ahead when we got them.
Anyway, have a photo of my

I had to go get my B12 injection on Tuesday, and the nurse surprised me with blood tests when I arrived. I knew I have to get them yearly via my doctor now, but was only discharged from the hospital in September, so didn't think they'd be due yet. Then, when I was in the vets the doctor called and said something went wrong with one of the vials so I have to go give more blood on Monday.
MiL is still in hospital, and apparently will be in for a fortnight or so. We've visited the last few days but James has told her when he's at work he just hasn't got the energy to visit on a night after doing a full 9 1/2 shift too. She's fine with that and he phones every day, so they'll keep in touch that way until Sunday.
We went to see Alita Battle Angel yesterday and I enjoyed it. Though as we saw it in IMax 3d the action scenes had me dizzy at times.
The day before we'd gone to see the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition that is at Sunderland for a while. I don't know, I was kind of underwhelmed. It was amazing to see paintings that were so old, but tbh, I didn't actually like any of them.
Talked to Corey and we're meeting up either Sunday or Monday for his birthday dinner. Kayleigh and her new girlfriend are going too, and I'll invite my brother, but I suspect he'll just wait for our sibs birthday dinner the next week. On Tuesday Corey's gf is taking him to Mog on the Tyne, and all I can say is, I like her style!
And now I must think of my prompt for no_tags.

Date: 2019-02-07 04:15 pm (UTC)Oh nice! I’ll go read soon 💜
Aww poor kittty, she’s so pretty!
Aww no, hope everything goes ok.
I hope this will be here last hospital stay
I’ve seen trailers for Alita but the main girl’s eyes are just.., off putting. And that’s a shame the exhibit was underwhelming
I suspect one prompt will be Mikey relatedM

Date: 2019-02-08 01:37 pm (UTC)She is pretty, my beautiful old lady.
I really hope it's the last hospital stay, too. It feels like in the last few years it's been one person after another ending up in there.
I have to admit, Alita's eyes are weird and take some getting used to.
Ha, yeah. I'm pretty transparent in my prompts.

Date: 2019-02-08 01:47 pm (UTC)She really is, tell her I love her and hope she’ll be ok
Yeah it definitely feels like every other post you’ve made has involved a hospital mention. Here’s hoping this is the last of the year
Yeah! It’s based on something isn’t it? So I guess they had to keep the yes so big
Hee, but what is the other one I wonder! I bet you will know mine as soon as they go up

Date: 2019-02-08 01:15 pm (UTC)Her ear doesn't look as red and she's not shaking her head now, so hopefully, the antibiotics are doing the job.

Date: 2019-02-08 06:18 am (UTC)Good for James for setting a reasonable boundary regarding in-person visits. I bet that will make the times he is able to go even better.
(blood, blood, gallons of the stuff, you gave them all that they could drink and it has never been enough...)

Date: 2019-02-08 01:14 pm (UTC)I agree it will make the visits when he does go better. Daily visiting is exhausting, even if you're just sitting doing nothing. Daily visiting on top of full shifts really can't happen.
Ahahaha. Now I've that song stuck in my head.

Date: 2019-02-08 01:10 pm (UTC)She's sitting behind me right now, which is good as she really doesn't like taking the tablets so goes in the huff every morning and night.

Date: 2019-02-08 08:42 pm (UTC)Poor Freesia! That much have been such a traumatic experience for her. I hope the antibiotics will help her ear heal quickly. And that the teeth removal surgery will go well. (Lancecat has had no luck with his teeth so he's had to experience it twice. Happily with no complications. I'm very glad I have insurance since it was expensive enough even with one!)
That's such a pretty photo of her! She looks like an old lady who won't take any nonsense from anyone :-)
I see Lesa has already mentioned Blood. It was the firt thing I thought of when I read that paragraph!
In my opinion Leonardo da Vinci is a very overrated painter. His sketches and other stuff are fantastic but his finished oil paintings are mostly just boring.
Corey's girlfriend has excellent taste!
I hope you managed to come up with some fun prompts!

Date: 2019-02-09 03:30 pm (UTC)Freesia's ear seems much better, but she hates taking her tablets. We tried crushing them in food but she wouldn't touch it, so now we have to use the tablet syringe thing from the vets which pretty much shoots it down her throat. Not nice for her or us, but she needs them.
She's very dignified, and yeah, won't take nonsense from the others.
Ahahaha, Blood is like that, stuck in your head for occasions such as this.

I have to agree. They had some of his sketches and the level of detail is fantastic, but the big stuff just didn't catch my attention at all.
I hope people like the prompts. As always I'm sure mine will be visible a mile away.

Shame about the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition - that's the thing with art, really, it needs to speak to you and if it doesn't... well it doesn't matter how technically good it is.

Exactly. I could tell that technically some of the sketches and paintings were brilliant, but they just didn't attract me.

Date: 2019-02-10 04:07 pm (UTC)Ooof at surprise!bloodwork.
I'm not an art person but I think that, as a culture, we have somewhat passively accepted that Da Vinci is "the best". Obvs, the guy had talent but I know I wouldn't want to hang any of his art in my house because I don't find it objectively pretty. So, yeah, I understand your 'meh' about the exhibition. The best art, imo, is the one that makes you FEEL THINGS.
Something tells me that you're giving Corey's gf a subtle thumbs up.
I...have no plans to go see Alita Battle Angel. The main character's eyes are unpleasant (to me)--though I know why she looks the way she does. There hasn't been a lot of buzz about it either so who knows. If anything, I'm way more excited about going to see Happy Death day 2U because I really liked the first movie a lot.

Date: 2019-02-13 05:34 pm (UTC)The surprise!bloodwork was a shock. Last time I went for my B12 I got a flujab. Bloods this time. I'll be on guard next time!

That's a good way to describe it. I looked at his art, and can't deny it was good. But none of it talked to me in any way. I needed more, and it just wasn't there.
Ha, yes. She did get a thumbs up *g*
Alita's eyes were weird, even more so in conjunction with the rest of her face. They were just too big and it was unsettling. Actually, the whole thing had some unsettling moments.
At this point I want to see something where I come out and go, wow. Monday we saw Mary Queen of Scots which was better than Alita, but still not a must-see.
I love having the unlimited card, but have to admit it leads to a sea of movies that blend together, which is a shame.

Date: 2019-02-13 05:44 pm (UTC)I liked Mary Queen of Scots--even though I'm aware on some level that some parts of it are totes made up. It wasn't a must-see for me, though.
Funny, I went thru something similar when I had MoviePass. This was back when the service was truly unlimited/didn't have nearly as many restrictions as it does nowadays. Anyhoo, yeah, there was a point where I was annoyed at how there would be weeks where there wasn't anything that I would ever consider watching. Even if it was ~free. Like,if I factor in ticket prices for a matinee, even if I watched 3 movies per month I was already "ahead".
But then, MoviePass started messing with what was allowed and what wasn't. I know there's a newish app for one theater chain in my city but it's too far for me to attend regularly. :-/

Date: 2019-03-17 04:25 pm (UTC)I can understand that. I love my Unlimited card but I seesaw between seeing too many films just because I can, to grumbling that there's nothing I want to see, even if there's a few choices and it won't cost me anything.
I guess, sometimes it's possible to overdose on going to the cinema. Which is why I've seen some terrible films in my time.
Hope you're doing okay. I know you said you'd be busy in Feb but it feels like you haven't been around for a while.

Date: 2019-02-11 07:47 am (UTC)If it helps most insurance policies don’t cover dental work anyway but it still sucks :(
B12 - why do those injections hurt so fucking much?! I had to have 6 over 2 weeks and even though I don’t mind needles I was dreading them!
no subject
Date: 2019-02-13 05:36 pm (UTC)Ah, I didn't know that about the insurance and not covering dental. I'm not surprised though. I was talking to someone today who said she could get insurance for her cat as it only has three legs due to an accident. It seems they'll use any excuse not to insure.
6 over 2 weeks. Yikes. Because they do hurt.

Date: 2019-02-13 08:24 pm (UTC)It was awful, it was in the hope it would kick start my body into making/storing/whatever it does with b12 but I don’t think it’s worked cos I’m really struggling with symptoms a month after them... I have repeat bloods next month and I’m worried I’ll need them for life.
