No tags writers were revealed so I can say that I wrote On Brooding Wings which is Frank/Mikey where Frank is a vegetarian vampire who's afraid to admit what he is and in the process makes himself sick. I have to admit, I really like how this turned out. Writing Frank/Mikey roomie days just feels so comfortable to me, and working out how to add a vampire to the mix was fun. Though I did end up debating warnings with themoononastick due to mentions of vomiting and an alluded to eating disorder.

It turns out shadowhive wrote for my prompt, which made me laugh as he's pretty much kept me in fic lately, which is pretty awesome. The story is also Frank/Mikey, with a very excellent Ray involved, and can be read here. I do recommend it.

In fact, I recommend the whole collection. I've just read all the stories today and there's not a bad one there. So a big thumbs up to everyone involved with the challenge.

In other news, our staycation came to a premature end as James came down with a cold, so our planned trip to Whitby today didn't happen, and tomorrow he's taking our nephew to the cinema. But, it's been a good week and we've done fun stuff so I can't be sad it's over. Plus, the weather is lovely so tomorrow while he's out I'm going to go start tidying the garden and wash down the greenhouse.

Also, my MiL came home yesterday. Whether she's ready I'm not 100% sure because after we picked her up and drove her home it took half an hour for her to get from the car into the house, which was a distance of all a few feet. But as it included two steps and her walker and wheelchair are wide ones that wouldn't fit down the passage/doors it took time and lots of rests. But, she is home, has adaptation put into place that should help, and hopefully will be much more comfortable regaining her strength in her own surroundings.

I’m glad she’s home, but like you I hope she’s ready for it and will be ok. Hopefully there’ll be no more hospital visits for her anytime soon

I was surprised at how many Frank/Mikey stories were prompted/posted. I guess challenges just sometimes work like that.

I did enjoy it, very much so.

The one that was added was cool, such an interesting style of writing.

It's supposed to be nice and sunny today, not that I have plans to go far. Just the garden and then I have a load of fic to read :D

it's good to hear your MiL is home and hopefully can regain some strength soon. I'm glad she's got more support, as recovery in her own space will be easier

I'm hoping he'll wake up and feel much better. If not he'll probably end up having a snooze while watching The Lego Movie with our nephew.

It's good that my MiL is home, at least now she's got tv to watch while recovering. I'll never get why they don't have free or heavily discounted tv in the hospital. £20 for 3 days is ridiculous, especially as when you're ill all you can often do is watch mindless tv.

you're so right about the charges for TV in the rooms! that's outrageous; when one is ill mindless TV is all one can do when there aren't visitors - it's happily been some years since I was hospitalized, but each time I was you could count on having very basic cable; enough to offer some choice in programming. sometimes there wasn't anything you really cared about, but at least it was background noise and distraction

I hope James is feeling better soon, and your MiL is, indeed, more comfortable back home, and they can get the adaptations in place to support her properly!

He does seem to be better, which is good as he's back at work after his week off tomorrow.

My MiL is settled at home now, but needs to change the zimmer frame they gave her. They gave an extra wide one, but it's too wide to move easily in her house. So, hopefully, they can get that changed asap.

Frank the vegetarian vampire continues to make me smile.

James is fine now, it's just typical he got a cold the day we'd planned to have a full day out. But, I did enjoy my day in the garden, and am about to go plant some seeds after I finish comment replies as it's a lovely day and the greenhouse is tidied up now.

My MiL is doing okay, she needs a different zimmer frame as the one she got sent home with is too wide for her house, but apart from that she's good.

Sorry to hear James was unwell, I hope he'll keep recovering! And best wishes to your mother in law. Definitely being at home is a huge plus.

James is much better now and my MiL doing better. Being home was such a boost for her.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get to Whitby, but I'm glad you've had a good time otherwise (and with ludicrous weather for February).



I hope things are going okay with your MiL - and that she has home support other than family now?

I do pretty much default to certain themes, so I'm not surprised you would have guessed me :D

I do love Whitby, but it is a long drive when you're not feeling your best. Plus, with being half term it would have been crowded anyway, so maybe was for the best. But the weather has been and remains ridiculous for Feb. I was considering starting some of my seeds yesterday, but worry a cold snap will come back and kill them all. So will hold off for now, even though it's yet another sunny day.

My MiL has got a lot of things to help in the house, like a stool for the kitchen, toilet risers etc, which are all helping. What I worry about is neither of my in-laws are capable of tidying so the floors are constantly littered with stuff. What the need is a bungalow or ground floor flat, but as they won't consider that the best we can do is go regularly and brush up so at least they're not at risk or slipping on papers etc.
