Mar. 12th, 2019 04:16 pmTwo posts in one day, what is this madness!?
I had an excellent visit to Dog and Scone, including having a very enthusiastic face wash via licking from a cute pug and James falling in love with the puppy. Some photos are up at my insta if you'd like to see. We didn't go to Mog in the end but did look through the window and wave at some of our favourites.
But I'm home now and have been reading another AO3 meme in various places so thought I'd give it a go --
I currently have 157 works posted on AO3. Choose a random number—no peeking!—between 1 and 179 inclusive (where 1 is the first work ever posted and 179 is the latest), and I will tell you three things I currently like about that work.
I figured it can't hurt to be reminded what I like about my own stuff.

Date: 2019-03-12 05:32 pm (UTC)I have to admit, I've just had to reread to remind myself of the story, but I still like it a lot.
(1) I think I captured JC well, and that his reasons for not joining were plausible, and that he never gave up on finding his dream.
(2) I like the details throughout the story. Especially JC's homemade Christmas decorations.
(3) Finally, I like how simple Chris and JC's eventual relationship is, how they slip into it with the prospect for more to come even though they're both on different paths.
Thanks for asking :)

Date: 2019-03-12 05:41 pm (UTC)(1) I like that I actually wrote for the fandom in the first place. For so long before I only wrote for popslash and then bandom, so writing this was unusual for me. But, I enjoyed the process.
(2) I like how I wrote Ken in this. Getting tired of stripping but still craving the attention, and so clueless about Mike's attraction. Ken was fun to write with his thoughts about healing and meditation, which seem so at odds to dancing on stage.
(3) And tied to that, I love the conversation between Ken and Rome. She was so much fun to write, such a smart, amazing woman. If I'd stayed in the fandom I'd have liked to write her more often.
Thank you for asking. It was good to revisit a rare fandom from me.

Date: 2019-03-14 02:19 pm (UTC)Which is a nice choice for you as I know you liked it.
(1) I still love the world building in the story. World building is one of my favourite things to do, and the killjoys gave us such amazing things to work with.
(2) I really enjoyed thinking about and writing how Gerard actually became PP. Gerard and PP are very different people and it would have taken a lot of hard work, along with a whole lot of being forced to survive, to make that change. It's another thing that was interesting to think about. That Party Poison wasn't born, he was created.
(3) Hot Rockets! I guess this ties into world-building, but I've just been reading those initial scenes again, and think I managed to describe the place exactly as I was imagining it, which is always a fantastic thing.
Oh, and the pug face wash was brill!

Date: 2019-03-14 02:41 pm (UTC)(1) I like that it's relatively hot. Sex really isn't my favourite thing to write, so when I manage something that does hit the bill I'm always happy.
(2) I really like the descriptions of the van and the surroundings, those little things that give a scene a little more depth. I think I managed that nicely.
(3) This is cheating as it's linked to the first really, but I like that it was a response to the porn battle. Because that is something out of my comfort zone, so I'm glad I just went for it.
Thank you for asking.

Date: 2019-03-14 03:21 pm (UTC)Number #42 is Is the Magic Number which is Mikey/Pete/Alicia.
(1) First, I love this because it features Alicia and I think that she's great. I like writing the band wives and wish I did it more often. And thinking of the dynamics between her, Mikey and Pete was interesting. I especially liked she admitted that she wasn't agreeing to the threesome relationship just for Mikey, but herself too, but at the same time her feelings were different.
(2) I still like my take on Pete. He's so complicated to write, especially for stories based back in the day. Self-destructive and going from 0-100 in seconds, but so loyal and good to his friends while not being good to himself. SO yeah, I still like this Pete.
(3) I think I captured the threesome parts nicely. It can be a delicate balance and not always perfect, and I think I got that.

Date: 2019-03-14 03:35 pm (UTC)I loved the pug, she was so friendly and you could tell she was in her element with a load of people to fuss over her.

Date: 2019-03-14 03:58 pm (UTC)(1) I like Lance in this. How he's working hard to be taken seriously as a businessman but can't quite throw off the boyband label and is, therefore, getting discouraged. But he never gives up. I think that's a very Lance thing.
(2) I've said this in other answers, but I love the details in the story. Chris making his sandwich, the bathroom where Lance ends up. I really enjoy adding things like that.
(3) I really like the scene where Chris and Lance are laying out how they're fucked up, both batting back and forward. It's snappy and I think it worked well.
Thank you for asking. And for giving me the excuse to reread that. It's been a while.

Date: 2019-03-14 04:35 pm (UTC)#153 is Five Times Bob Needed to Keep An Eye On His Band
It's been forever since I read this, but I have now so --
(1) I like how funny it is in parts. I enjoy dialogue and especially like the conversation with Mikey and Bob.
(2) I think I captured Bob nicely. Well, Bob back then, Bob in later years not so much. How protective he is, but always willing to tease, too. Like when he's convincing everyone Ray hit him with his guitar.
(3) Out of all the scenes I love the bottling one the most. It's full of drama, cursing and I can so easily see them all facing down the hostile crowd.
Thank you for asking :)

Date: 2019-03-14 04:44 pm (UTC)As it is 123 is Two shorts from the Boxes universe.
(1) Boxes feels like forever ago, and this is sort of cheating but I love this because it brings up such happy memories of when I was writing Boxes. Shiny and new in popslash and I was enjoying writing so much. And that same feeling is included in these shorts. I've written so much since then, but Boxes verse will always be special.
(2) I really like JC decorating the boots and handing them over. I know he's different now, but it reminds me so strongly of JC back then, with his taste for unusual clothes and colours that he so obviously loved.
(3) I like JC trusting Chris to finish the dolphin, trusting him always. Though, back then dolphins were innocent things in my mind *g*
Thank you for asking. I've really enjoyed reading some of my old stories.

Date: 2019-03-14 04:54 pm (UTC)(1) I like that it has de-aged Aramis, something that I usually don't write. I'm still not sure why I decided to write it, I just did and I'm glad about that and little!Amarmis was adorable to think about.
(2) I also like Athos in this and think I did okay capturing his speech patterns. He has such a formal way of speaking at times, very at odds with how I usually write dialogue.
(3) And this goes for all of the picfor1000s so is cheating really, but I always give myself a pat on the back for getting those exact 1000 words along with having an understandable story. So that applies here too.
Thanks for asking!

Date: 2019-03-14 04:57 pm (UTC)oh man, formal-speaking characters bring out the worst in me always. kudos for getting him right! and mmm, exact wordcount fics are so satisfying.

Date: 2019-03-14 05:02 pm (UTC)Okay 16 is All We Are Is Burning Stars which is Nsync.
Last year for picfor1000 I decided to do fills for all of my active fandoms, which at the time were Musketeers, bandom and for old times sake, popslash. So the details will mean nothing to you, sorry.
(1) I love that I managed to show that JC missed being mega famous, but at the same time didn't want to go back. I think that showed some nice growth.
(2) Though he's not the focus, I really liked writing Justin being watched by Chris and JC. How they both so obviously loved him as a friend and were proud of what he was doing.
(3) I like how simple the story is. Just JC and Chris being together, happy and relaxed. Nothing overblown or angsty.
Thanks for asking, even if you did get a fandom you know nothing about.

Date: 2019-03-14 05:04 pm (UTC)And I so agree about exact word counts being satisfying. I miss picfor100 for giving me an excuse to get that feeling. Even if I did gnash my teeth on a yearly basis as I had to delete many many words.
