We were at a surprise party last night. It went well, the lady it was for was surprised and seemed very happy which is great. Personally, I've told James if he ever did something like that for me I'd probably turn around and walk out, so it's very much a know your audience thing.
James went to two schools side by side back in the day. A mainstream one and one for children with disabilities. This lady was a teacher from that second school, so they'd arranged a place that was disability friendly as a lot of her old pupils were invited. The place was packed and apparently, they'd had a bit of a mess up with the buffet as one of the ladies organising things turned up with boxes from a nearby pizza shop containing garlic bread, onion rings, potato wedges and garlic dip.
I did laugh because before we went James was debating getting a taxi so he could have a drink. Now this is the man that bought a few cans of cider for Christmas and they're still sitting in the cupboard, so I suspected drinking wouldn't happen, especially to the extent it would be anywhere near the driving limit. So said we should just take the car, and it's good we did as he was ready to leave at 9 after drinking all of one pint of beer shandy. To be fair he had been on an early shift at work so we'd been up since 5am, but even so, we were both tucked up in bed by 10:30. Our social life, man, it's rock and roll.
Tonight we're off to the theatre to see Rue Paul's Drag Race. It should be fun and James should stay awake as he's having a lie in. Then when he's up we're off to Ikea this afternoon to stock up on lint rollersand no doubt some tealight candles and a random plastic object that will never be used. Also, a veggie hot dog. I must always get a veggie hotdog at Ikea.
Yesterday I finished and sent off h/c exchange story version two to beta. Themoononastick liked the first one but we were both a little unsure if it fit the recipient's wants beyond the character and hurt focus. So I decided to write something quick and short that was more tailored. Which I did, except that quick and short ended up over 7k long. It does mean I'll be able to post that first story at some point, but now there's no deadline I'm going to expand it a bit and flesh it out more. But, that's something for the future, I need this exchange story polished and posted first.

Date: 2019-05-07 05:28 pm (UTC)Oh well, we got to eat first and meet our friends, so staying wasn't needed.
After all this I hope the person likes their exchange story. The first one is more me, but I know it will be posted eventually.

Date: 2019-05-06 04:20 am (UTC)That's very considerate of you to write a second story! And very productive too. Having a bonus story in your back pocket for the future is a fine thing.

Date: 2019-05-07 05:25 pm (UTC)That is so true.
I do love the first story but the more I was looking at it the more I was doubting the person would like it. So, new one it was.

Date: 2019-05-07 06:23 pm (UTC)Sounds like you'd a nice time even if you didn't do all that wild partying James apparently planned for ;-)
I hope you'd fun at the theatre and a fruitful visit to Ikea! (I always buy too much when I'm there but at least I always end up using everything :-)
You wrote one more story, go you!!

Date: 2019-05-10 04:00 pm (UTC)We did have a nice time at the party, though. I knew for a fact James wouldn't be drinking, so getting a taxi there and back would have been a huge waste of money.
The Ikea visit went well, but no veggie hot dog happened as we stopped off at the cafe for lunch. The meatballs were too tempting to resist.
I did write another story. And it's been beta read and edited. Now I just need to think of a title, already.
