You get money in one hand and it goes out of the other.
We got a letter yesterday that contained a parking ticket from the car park attached to the Durham cinema. You get discounted parking there which costs 1:50 for four hours. Which always makes me grumble as the other Odeons all have free parking, but they're in a different county to Durham which makes you pay even if you have a blue badge in their car parks.
Normally four hours is more than enough time to park and watch the film, even if you need to fit in a swift stroll to the Starbucks at the end of the road to get a latte. But when we saw It the film itself was nearly three hours long, add in the adverts, the trailers, leaving time to queue up to pay for the parking, first at the desk to pay and then at another desk to input your reg number, and first finding a parking space then getting to the cinema and well, we went 14 minutes over and now have a £60 fine. I've appealed but don't hold up much hope as technically they're right.
Today I've started decorating so am now nicely paint splattered with very achy arms. But, I've painted the ceiling and done a first coat of most of the walls. Already things are looking much fresher and now we just need to decide on the final colour. At first, we were going for white, but now the base coat is on it's looking a bit clinical so I don't know. I think a topcoat with a bit of colour is needed. Tomorrow I need to move the bookcases and paint behind there and do the little patches you always notice when you've tidied up and put away the paint. It shouldn't take that long though, and the ceiling was the job I really wasn't looking forward to, so I'm glad that's done.

Date: 2019-09-18 07:11 am (UTC)Yeah, I'm thinking a colour is the way to go, especially as the walls were bright yellow before so going to white is a big change. I mean, it looks okay, but a bit sterile.
Now I'm procrastinating with a coffee and DW before going to tackle the bookcases.

Date: 2019-10-17 01:22 pm (UTC)It really is.
And, as expected, we didn't win the appeal so had to pay.

Date: 2019-10-17 01:23 pm (UTC)Sadly no sympathetic ear. I knew we wouldn't as looking it up a few people had fallen foul of that carpark and none had won the appeal. It was a hard lesson to remember to always get back in time.

Date: 2019-10-17 01:26 pm (UTC)It's stupid, especially so as the cinema has machines where you can self print/buy your tickets so you don't have to go to the counter but you can't pay for parking there. There's no choice but to wait in the queue, which is also the same queue for food and drink so is always busy, get your parking paid and then go to the other queue to validate. I honestly don't know what they were thinking.

Date: 2019-10-17 01:29 pm (UTC)Sadly we had to pay, which I expected as we had gone over. Just, it would have been nice to have had a bit of a reduction. but, it wasn't to be. Now we just make extra sure we're back in time, which isn't a probably usually, thank goodness.
I'm glad most of the decorating is done. I still need to get the toilet done but it's such a small space that will take all of a day, with no moving stuff. So, maybe it can be my job for the weekend.

Date: 2019-09-27 04:37 pm (UTC)Painting the ceiling was the worst job by far. I knew I had to get that over and done with otherwise it would be hanging over my head.
