Oct. 11th, 2019 11:19 amTo the surprise of no one I'm sure, I did order the fox dress and it came yesterday. I suck at selfies, especially ones where I'm trying to show an outfit, but you can sort of see me wearing it here.
Yesterday I'd got a day ahead of myself date-wise and was messaging Kayleigh making plans to go to hers as it's her birthday today. Except, it's not until tomorrow. Thankfully I was talking to her or I'd have turned up early, and then no doubt would have been early for my middle nephew's birthday which is actually on Sunday.
But, at least I got to the post-office and posted some stuff. So I'll give myself one tick for getting stuff done correctly.
It was my oldest nephew's birthday a few days ago, but as he's still in foster care we couldn't see him. We did send presents and a card, and James is on the list for a weekly phone-call so got to say belated happy birthday last night. Hopefully, he'll be back home in February, until then he's with a wonderful foster carer who's looking after him beautifully.
Next Wednesday we've a social worker coming to assess our house and start off a police record check as emergency carers of my youngest niece and nephew if they ever have to leave home. Very much a worst-case scenario situation which I'm sure won't happen as my SiL has turned her life around big time, but needs to be in place as a backup. The house is in good condition right now and apart from the spare room, is well decorated, and neither of us has bad records, but it's still unnerving to think about.
After two people on my flist were talking about it I've started to watch Prodigal Son, and I can see the attraction, very much so. I'll be watching episode two later so hopefully, it's as good as the first.
I've also been catching up on recorded tv and the other night finished the last eps of 911. I do like that show and loved the public getting involved to help Buck. Now I've moved onto Station 19 which I'd watch more of tonight but it's the celeb Masterchef finale and I need to watch that, and last nights ep as I didn't get to see it.
With whumptober and kinktober my inbox is overrun with MCU notifications from AO3. Thankfully most fills are short because omg, so much fic.

Date: 2019-10-11 10:43 am (UTC)Ahaha, you've joined the Prodigal SOn brigade too, eh? It's decent, but I must admit FBI is pinging me more- but the Law and Order franchise always worked for me, so I am not surprised.
Prodigal Son is a bit too intense, but I am hooked by the intrigue of the second ep, so I'll stick with it.

Date: 2019-10-11 10:56 am (UTC)After Mouse was raving about it, and then you mentioned it, I knew I needed to give the show a go. Like I said, I've only seen the first episode but it gripped me, and seems to include things I enjoy. I am amused that you and Mouse started watching for different characters, though.
I've got FBI on my DVR. It's yet another show that piled up and needs to be watched.
There's always so much tv to watch, and now all the autumn shows are coming back. I'll never catch up!

Date: 2019-10-11 10:59 am (UTC)Yeah, there are a lot of TV I am kinda into this time around, but I doubt I'll watch more, ahaha. I'm hearing good things about Batwoman, but I'd need to watch more TV. I did get CBS all access to watch the new Picard show. So that is on my agenda.

Date: 2019-10-11 10:44 am (UTC)It’s easy to get muddled up with birthdays especially when so many are close together we’ve got a few around now too and I fail at remembering mum’s friends
Aww I hope your nephew had a nice birthday despite all the stress of everything
I hope that all goes well, I’m sure it will
Oh what’s that? I need to watch the last masterchef too
Hee I can imagine!
Also thank you! As I was typing this the postman came so I’ve got the cards to sent! I’m gonna sort through them this afternoon 🖤 you’re awesome!

Date: 2019-10-11 11:08 am (UTC)October is crammed full of birthdays and so is September. I'm always glad when I manage to remember them all.
He had a brilliant birthday apparently. The family he's with are treating him so well and he got gifts from them too. His foster mam said it was like Christmas in their house.
Prodigal Son is about a serial killer's son who works as a criminal psychologist and helps out the New York police department. The main guy is played by the same person who played Jesus in The Walking Dead, though I can't remember if you watch that or not. I like what I've seen so far and am interested to see where it goes. Especially as a few of my friends have fallen for the show.
You're very welcome! I hope they help finish your collection and am very glad they arrived so fast.

Date: 2019-10-11 11:15 am (UTC)Yeah what’s up with everyone being all clustered together like that?
Awww that’s good! I’m so glad🖤
Oh it sounds interesting and just like the kind of thing I’d watch! Is it on Netflix? I’ve not watched walking dead in ages, though given the title it seems ironic he’s in it!
I’m going through them now and I’ve already squeed because there’s a few cards that I really wanted in there (like Luke and Princess Leia!) So I’m super grateful 🖤🖤

Date: 2019-10-11 11:52 am (UTC)No, sadly not being broadcast here yet so I've been downloading it.
Thinking of Netflix, have you watched the new eps of The Good Place? I'm so happy its back.
That's so great! I'm glad they helped.

Date: 2019-10-11 06:48 pm (UTC)I'm sure the social worker and police check will be absolutely fine - they'll want you to pass it so that the kids can be at home supportedly - but I get why it's nervewracking. All the good thoughts your way <3
I've very much enjoyed this season of Masterchef - I'm excited to see what they make in the final!

Date: 2019-10-12 08:49 am (UTC)The thought of the house being assessed is just weird. I keep getting the urge to completely gut the spare bedroom which is daft. I mean, it's perfectly safe and useable. Just is full of overflow stuff.
I was very pleased with who won. They deserved it, though any of them could have won really as the food looked delicious.

Date: 2019-10-12 05:26 pm (UTC)It's better to get ahead than behind!
Yeah, I can definitely understand feeling unnerved by having someone come into your home like that. I know I would hate it! It would feel like being judged! I'm sure everything will turn out alright but I promise to keep my fingers crossed just in case.

That's true, and once I've dropped off my middle nephew's card -- on the right day -- the birthday cluster will be over.
It does feel like we're being judged, and in a way we are. I'll be glad when she's been and gone.

Date: 2019-10-13 05:08 am (UTC)I hope the social worker visit goes smoothly and doesn't cause you too much stress. I think it's very cool that you're willing to be on call like that.

Date: 2019-10-13 11:33 am (UTC)I'll be pleased when the social worker has been and gone. Not that there's anything concrete to worry about. Just, it all feels a bit unnerving.

Prodigal Son is definitely on my to-watch list. Thanks for the reminder!

Date: 2019-10-19 03:43 pm (UTC)I'm enjoying Prodigal Son. And the fact friends are really into it is helping that. I love fannish enthusiasm.

Date: 2019-10-18 12:34 pm (UTC)So happy you're joining the Prodigies! (I didn't make up the name, ok, I'm just going with the flow). I think each new episode is even better than the previous one but, as you might have guessed, I'm not exactly not biased so don't take my word for it (they are, though, for realz!!)
PS: I just knew you'd look great in the dress!

Date: 2019-10-19 03:41 pm (UTC)The Prodigies. Well, it's not the worst fannish name I've heard, but I'm glad to be a part of you all if only a small one right now. I need to catch up on the last two episodes and am eager to do so.
Thank you!

Date: 2019-10-18 04:46 pm (UTC)Here's hoping the social worker check went well.
I've heard of Prodigal Son but the promo isn't exactly convincing me. Right now, the only actual!TV shows I'm watching are American Horror Story: 1984 and S21 of Law & Order: SVU. I had quit the latter two seasons ago after they did a terrible thing to one of my fave characters, brought in a new (super bland) character to replace him, and focused 80% of the storylines on Olivia Benson and her son.
This season is way more balanced since one of the OG showrunners from S14-16 is back. I'm back on my bullshit of being invested in what happens (even though a lot of the overall mood is somber.)
There are SO MANY CHALLENGES AND EXCHANGES, ZOMG! Even if I were to set aside those that are flash exchanges and/or have minimal word counts, it is A LOT. XD

Date: 2019-10-19 11:42 am (UTC)Well, you saw how the social worker check went, so, ever onwards I guess.
Ah, I'm glad you're watching AHS 1984 and I've seen no one else who's doing so. I've seen all the others but I never know if the new version will be good or not as they've gone from good, Murder House, to the utter tripe that was Cult. How's this season feeling to you?
So many challenges! I'm still not ready to throw myself into MCU challenge/exchanges yet, but think I'll put up my own fandom stocking this year and maybe bandom exchange if it happens. If not, I may have no choice but to branch out.

Date: 2019-10-19 05:07 pm (UTC)1984 is v. ridic and gory. The first 2 episodes are so-so but things begin to pick up in episode 3 and go full-on bonkers. I think there are 2 more episodes before the season is over? It's deffo a fun and OTT season that, although not as great as Murder House, Asylum or Coven, I deffo like it a lot more than Roanoke and Hotel.
Yeah, my exchange schedule is PACKED for Nov-Dec so I am done signing up for stuff. ;)

Date: 2019-10-22 09:37 am (UTC)I'm always interested in how so many people have different lows and highs in terms of each season. Hotel and Cult seem to be the biggies in terms of either loving or hating, while I've never seen anyone say they dislike Murder House.

Date: 2019-10-22 03:15 pm (UTC)Hotel isn't, imo, bad but I did think that it tried too hard to be 'extreme'. Cult was a case of 'too close to reality' for me. Also, The Purge film series has done that whole trope way better.
