Thank you Mikeyway for posting a photo of some excellent new boots. I hope you'll continue to wear them forever, and you know, if you wanted to you could go for the whole eyeliner thing again too that would be great. I know, not going to happen but a girl can dream

Anyone watching The Boys on Amazon? It's an interesting take on superheroes and how behind the masks they can be mean, bad and flawed people. I'm only two episodes in but am enjoying it so far. Though, none of the characters, apart from Starlight, are that likeable.

James was sent home from work again yesterday. He's been at the doctors this morning, and amazingly the blood lady managed to get four full vials. Seriously, in all the years I've been attending appointments with him no one has done that, usually they end up having to go in his foot and manage to get at most, half a tube. Hopefully, these complete blood tests will show any issues until then he has to keep on with counselling and his work has pretty much said to not go back until he's fully up to it. Understandably, his mental health is pretty much in the gutter right now.

But, he's doing all he can do. Is going to the doctors, counsellors, trying to make lifestyle changes. For now, that has to be enough.

You should do, it's interesting, very gritty and bloody and an unusual take on superheroes.

I was amazed at her getting that blood. Then she said today was her last day at the doctors as it was too long of a commute from her home. So, we found a great blood lady only to lose her within minutes.

My boys are watching The Boys & I sat in on a panel at DragonCon for it, despite never having seen a minute of it (you know my Karl Urban situation; I was helpless to resist) but I think the house consensus is that it’s too dark for me at the present time/state of mind. I’m intrigued by it though....

I have to be honest, I still haven't finished it, but from the episodes I've seen, yeah, it is dark. I think it makes it even darker that the bad stuff is done by superheroes, and that feels so wrong.

Yes! It was one of my favourite things too. I mean, he can obviously afford clothes and has been doing so while not in the band. So why the constant wearing or merch? Laziness? Can't be bothered with washing his clothes?

Though tbh, I'd be tempted to just grab new stuff if I could, too.

i watched the boys recently! it's very....like i can tell the original inspo for it was A Man (like legit does it pass the bechdel test? i don't think it does, despite featuring multiple women. also every guy's motivation is a dead girlfriend), but i do enjoy anything that subverts the idea of superheroes in the world of late capitalism. i also really love that they did well by starlight!

It was Corey who recommended The Boys to me, and I suspect he's the main targetted demographic as a young twenties male. I also agree that it doesn't pass the bechdel test. But, saying that, it has enough going for it that I enjoyed anyway.

Like I said in the post it's an interesting take on superheroes, and how sometimes they really aren't what they seem. I also like it has stuff I love reading about in MCU fic, in that they all live together, but in this case the living together isn't a good thing. More stress, enemies, manipulation and having to be on guard at all times than hair braiding and movie nights.

So yeah, not perfect but entertaining.

I have to admit I've stalled watching it lately. Like you the premise was intriguing, and I still like the idea. But I'm finding the ratio of likeable characters to the totally unlikeable ones too unbalanced.

Which is a shame as I'm always down for new shows about superheroes. I may watch the rest at some point but have no hurry to do so at the moment.

Mikeyway sure loves boots. I'm glad to see this new pair too >:) Sadly, I think he'll pass up on eyeliner since I remember reading some interview where he said he hated wearing it? I could be misremembering it though.

I watched The Boys (and also read the comic book it is based on. Though that was a few years ago) and liked it just okay. OTOH, it has Karl Urban and he's one of those actors who will always get a pass from me. OTOH, although I do think it has a couple of interesting points (seeing how the past 5 or so years have become the Age of Superheroes in mainstream media), the bulk of ideas and opinions it serves feel about a decade old?

FTR, there's going to be a second season so, hey, at least more Karl Urban?

Mikeyway and boots is an excellent combo.

I love seeing him in eyeliner, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had hated wearing it in the end. I suspect it could have been one of those things where a bit of eye makeup was a good thing when he was doing his whole scene king thing. But the more time went on it very much became part of his image. Oh well, I'll always have the photos.

I've stalled watching The Boys. I liked it well enough and it has a premise that's interesting but I started to find the balance of likeable to unlikeable characters unbalanced. It seemed very black and white with few shades of grey, and it's those shades I like. Though, as I haven't seen to the end yet I realise more could be revealed yet.

No doubt I will watch to the end at some point. Probably when I'm done watching wall to wall Christmas movies and festive baking specials.

I'm sorry to hear of James being unwell. I hope the blood tests do provide some helpful information. And that he gets the best of whatever kind of care is indicated.
