Thank you so much to
dine and
tara for the cards, I enjoyed them both a lot ♥
Also, thank you to
sperrywink for the parcel, which arrived yesterday, and to
turlough for the parcel which arrived today. Who needs muffins when you have such lovely friends ♥
Last night we picked up baby fannish niece from Newcastle. It was her first solo concert and my SiL was a bit worried about her getting home so late, so we were on picking up duty.
We had a good talk on the way home and I was reminded that at heart, all kinds of fans connect at some level. I'm a fandom old and don't hang in the same fannish spaces as my niece at all, but we still get each other on a base level. Along with the concert, she'd gone to a signing with Liam Payne earlier in the day and spent a long time telling me how he looked, how he acted, how his management were arseholes who don't promote him properly. How he was shorter than she expected and how not telling his height was a joke he had with fans. Also, how she burst into tears after seeing him and two new friends she'd made in line comforted her, and then started crying themselves.
And it was just, yeah, I got it. I really did.
Tonight we're off for the Christmas meetup with Pauline and my brother and his family. My uncle was supposed to go but he's had medical issues lately that means he's had to drop out. Which is a shame as we only see him at this meet-up at Christmas. But, Pauline's daughter and SiL have stepped up and taken over the meals and are good company, so all is well.

Date: 2019-12-07 04:39 pm (UTC)it sounds like baby fannish niece had a very good concert experience! it's funny how little age/fandom matters when it comes to being a fan

Date: 2019-12-08 11:11 am (UTC)She had a fantastic concert experience and I'm impressed she was happy to go solo when no one else wanted to go with her. I suspect it was the first of many concerts for her.

Date: 2019-12-08 11:08 am (UTC)She really is adorable, even her ranting about Liam's management company was adorable.
It was a good meetup, far too much food, so we all came home with huge pieces of cake.

Date: 2019-12-07 09:20 pm (UTC)Awww at babbu!fannish niece. It's always kind of a shock when you see XYZ person you admire in the flesh. Like, I had a total !!! the first time I met Frank because I'd believed the fanon of him being 5'4" (my height). In reality, he's between 5'7"-5'8" and, although it might not seem like much, those few inches make all the difference.

Date: 2019-12-08 10:43 am (UTC)I also love, that for many fannish friends, you can be apart for years and yet still fit together nicely when any reconnection happens.

Date: 2019-12-08 10:41 am (UTC)After a very long time of stomach issues, my uncle has just had a stoma bag fitted so I wasn't surprised at all he had to bow out of a family meal. I feel for him as he's finding the whole situation hard at the moment.
But we did have a good time :)

I hope your Christmas meet-up went well!

Date: 2019-12-08 05:56 pm (UTC)She's just posted a photo of her meeting with Liam on her FB. She looks like a visual representation of squee, even though all he's doing is leaning over the table toward her.
It did. Good food and good company :)
