turps: (cat look at me)
[personal profile] turps
Today I went to the post office and picked up my birthday present from [personal profile] sperrywink. Thank you so much, Kimberly. It's now sitting in a safe place with Turlough's parcel.

I've also been to Costco and came out with I went in for -- cat litter -- and also cat food and a haggis. I feel that's good going for Costco, though the selection of tasting stations was lacking, which was disappointing.

Then I spent a few hours at Kayleigh's and am finally home. Tomorrow I need to book the table for the joint birthday meal and also take Tinker to the vets and James has to go get his blood pressure taken at the doctors. Only with the nurse though so hopefully he's in and out.

Tinker. Sigh. She went downhill again and I got her an emergency appointment a few days ago. She's lighter than she's been since she started going and has nausea, which wasn't helping the eating situation. We had to see the second vet, not the main one she usually sees, but she was lovely. Tinker got fluids and Lucie the vet said she'd need them regularly now and did we want to learn how to give them. And after having a demonstration the answer is no, no I do not. I don't mind doing the B12s but giving fluids was a step beyond I was comfortable with. So from now on Tinker will be having regular visits to see the nurse to get fluids. She's old, has a lot going on with kidney and thyroid issues, but apart from the weight loss she's doing fine so I'm happy to take her as often as she needs. It was suggested she should get a scan but that would mean her being put under which comes with its own risks. Not helping that decision was the fact the scan session happens monthly at our vets and would have been today, meaning we needed to decide on the spot. What we decided, in the end, was to have a month on these fluids and anti-sickness injections and if she's doing well after, continue with that. If not, the scan is the next option.

Tinker also has tablets to boost her appetite but she hates taking tablets, so much so she was hissing and trying to bite the vet when she tried to get her to take them. So, after her appointment we went out and bought multiple kinds of cat food and treats and I've been experimenting with what she's eat with crushed up tablets. Sadly she doesn't like cheese or stuff like that but has been eating it in tuna as long as the meds are soaked in juice. Which probably means she's not getting all of the dose but anything is better than nothing.
