We've been to see Dolittle today. I'd been warned in advance it wasn't the best and yeah. I went in with low expectations and because the screen was pretty much empty could have a quiet brief conversation with James as we tried to decide what the hell RDJ's accent was supposed to be. Welsh, I think but it seemed to wander UK wide.

I watched Picard yesterday and And I have to admit my reactions are quite shallow for the most part, because hello Santi, what an entrance! I mean, I've enjoyed him as an actor for a long time but for his first scene to have him shirtless, shrapnel in his shoulder being removed by a hologram of himself. Way to get me invested in a character in an instant, and then reinforce that with the whole both not playing by the rules but also Starfleet through and through. By which I mean, hi Rios, I love you a lot already. Please be a lot of fic that includes self!cest. I also need an icon, stat.

I actually liked the whole episode a lot. Raffi is another great character and I really enjoyed all her interactions with Picard, and of course the ongoing mystery of just what the heck is going on in the cube and with Soji.

And the end part, with them on Rios' ship and this new small crew and Picard gives the command to 'Engage' I had chills.



Kayleigh's off to see the Thriller stage show at the Empire tonight. Which is of note because somehow she thought it was Friday last week and actually only realised when she got to the seats and saw that the stage was set up for Cabaret and someone was sitting in her actual seat. How that happened I don't know as she had to show tickets to the security guards on the door and then the lady pointing to seat positions. Apparently neither saw she was a full week early and had tickets printed for a totally different show.

Yess I agree with your thoughts on him cause, nom! I loved his entrance, he’s ti him being topless more. The only bad thing about Picard was that it ended, cause .i want more!

You know, it wouldn't have been that terrible without the accent, I mean, still bad but not wtf levels. As it was, the accent was always there.

The only thing I didn't like about his entrance was he was smoking as I don't like that. Otherwise, everything was perfect and I really need more, both fic and the eps.

I need to see if she enjoyed the show. She's seen it twice previously so I'd imagine so.

Sounds like you're really enjoying the new Picard show. Hopefully there will soon be lots of fanworks for it.

I've been reading some articles and it seems it was his choice to try the Welsh accent. Which is ridiculous if so as it's a very hard one to mimic without sounding OTT and stupid, as sadly he did throughout the film.

I'm loving new Picard. I need to hit up A03 and see what's been posted. I hope the fic is starting to roll in now more characters have been introduced.

I asked her if she wasn't tempted to sit in the back and watch anyway, but she was so embarrassed they turned around and walked out.

Crazy! Well at least Kayleigh didn't miss the whole show. I think that sometimes when a (seated) show is sold out they're not super careful about checking tickets at the door because if there are extra people they will figure it out once people start complaining about somebody sitting in their seat. But it does feel wild to just be let in like that!

LBR, RDJ's British accents throughout the years have been...rather questionable, LOL. He's a good actor and quite charming as well. However, even those two things aren't able to detract from how his Brit accent tends to wander a lot.

I'd heard so much bad stuff abt the Dolittle movie (not to mention how much they've done BTS with reshoots + pushing the movie's premiere date twice + the fact that they dumped it in January) that I don't even think I'll watch it on Disney+

Did you mean Thriller like the Michael Jackson song? I'm a tad confused (though this is also where I have to mention that I'm rather ignorant/unaware abt theater shows goings on).

It IS weird that Kayleigh was allowed in despite having the wrong date and show on her ticket. I guess everyone at the door was on autopilot/half asleep.

That's very true. It's a shame as you're right, he is a good actor, but a bad accent is very distracting, especially when it's as bad as in Dolittle.

Honestly, you won't be missing anything by not watching it. It made me smile a couple of times, mostly because I'm a sucker for animals, but nothing stands out at all.

Yep, it's a show centred around Michael Jackson. Kayleigh is a huge fan, she even has a massive silhouette of him on her leg, though it's so big and black I think it's become one of her tattoos to regret.

I still can't believe she was let in. They're so strict checking tickets and bags at the door, and then they get checked again going to the seats so how everyone missed she was a week early I don't know.
