Feb. 25th, 2020 06:38 pmTinker's ashes finally came home today. She was due home yesterday but we had a load of snow overnight so when I woke up on Monday morning everything was white. This meant the delivery couldn't get to the vets. Though, ridiculously, by midday, all the snow was gone from here. It was literally around for all of 12 hours or so and then no sign.
Unpacking her box we found they hadn't included her fur and footprint as requested, but thankfully it was just a case of the vets not putting them in the box, so we'll get them tomorrow. She's on the shelf next to her sisters and dog brother now, and I feel glad she's home.
We've also been to the cinema to see Ordinary Love, it was a silver screen viewing meaning I got my free cup of coffee, in fact, two free cups as I got James' too. I liked the film, I expected to come out feeling depressed as it's about a couple dealing with the wife having breast cancer, but instead it was more thought-provoking.
Then after that had a pick up from Olio. It's an app which distributes food for free, either from individuals who have stuff spare they want rid of, or, what we got, someone who signs up to be a food hero and once a week gets unsold food that's going to go out of date soon from various supermarkets, and then lists it to give away free. I've checked the app for a while but usually, there's no choice, but today I saw someone had become a hero for Tesco and lived reasonably close by, so we've been there and came home with a bag full of packaged sandwiches. I also had a nice chat to the lady doing it and both agreed it's great that more supermarkets are actively trying to cut down on food waste.
We also bought some fruit and planned on making pancakes for pancake day, but honestly, I think they'll have to wait until tomorrow now. Then I'll dip into the giant Costco bag of pancake mix which has been dominating one of my kitchen shelves for over a year now.

Date: 2020-02-26 06:19 pm (UTC)Olio is an excellent app, and I enjoyed those sandwiches.
I still haven't had my pancakes. I need to change that.

enjoy your pancakes, whenever you have them!

Date: 2020-02-26 06:11 pm (UTC)Olio is fantastic, it's well established in other parts of the country but just starting off here. But, I love the big supermarkets are starting to take part. Between talking to people at Company and this Olio lady I found out how much food is thrown away by the big shops, and it's shameful.
Still haven't had them. Maybe tomorrow *g*

Date: 2020-02-26 06:08 pm (UTC)It's an excellent idea. Sadly not that widespread around our area, but hopefully, more people/stores will start to take part.
I did. Thank you.

That sounds like a fantastic app and it must be great it's getting to your area too now. There is just far too much food that goes to waste!
You eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday? Here in Sweden we eat semlor.

Date: 2020-02-27 05:08 pm (UTC)We do have her fur and footprints. I'm very glad she's home.
I agree, far too much food goes to waste. I keep checking the app daily but so far only that one lady has become a food hero in our area. But, hopefully, more will join as I know it's a very popular app elsewhere.
We do eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, though a lot of the religious meaning has been lost and the day tends to be just called pancake day. The semlor look delicious, though more complicated to make than pancakes. Unless it's something mostly bought from the shops.

Date: 2020-02-27 07:16 pm (UTC)Ordinary Love is deffo a movie I'm avoiding. I'm already v. touchy to movies (and most media, really) that have cancer as a central theme. Though I get how the movie got you thinking.
Olio sounds like a great app!

Date: 2020-03-28 04:41 pm (UTC)I can actually remember Ordinary Love which isn't always the case with some movies, so it did stay with me. But I can completely understand why it's not a theme for everyone.
