Today we reserved a new rescue cat.
We didn't intend to but had started to look around local rescues because the house felt so empty with only the two cats. But, with Pansy being 10 and Milo 16 we knew we had to be careful to get someone who would suit them as well as us.
Yesterday we toured a few shelters but last night I just felt wrong. We'd seen some lovely cats and some beautiful kittens that we'd been able to handle. But even so, getting home I wasn't feeling it and was sorry we'd looked at all. Then this morning we had a booking at a cat cuddle event at our vets. While they consist of cats needing homes it's also fine to just go along, have a coffee and pet some cats, and that's what we intended to do.
We go in, and within minutes James' attention was fully on this little grey cat. He was friendly, spent ages licking James' hand and even though I told him he couldn't really pick a cat within five minutes, he was already gone, and spent nearly the whole hour with him.
We did talk to the lady running the event a lot, making sure this cat would fit into our household and that he'd be a good fit with our cats, and she said he would, but that if the worst happened she would always take him back no strings attached. He would come already neutered, all jabs, flea and worm treated, chipped and with a month's insurance. We also had to fill in a questionnaire to see if we fit the cat, and passed that.
So, say hello to our new boy who should arrive sometime next week.
Right now he's called Ernie, but we're thinking of changing it to Murphy, mainly because after we'd agreed to have him we checked his details and it turns out his birthday is the same as mam's. Murphy was her nickname, so it feels meant to be in a way.

Date: 2020-03-08 08:02 pm (UTC)She was called Amy and had the sweetest unusual looking face. She was tiny and spent most of the time lying on top of the microwave with two other cats, but when I petted her would rest her face against my hand.
She was beautiful and if I could afford two sets of adoption fees and insurance, I would have reserved her also.

Date: 2020-03-08 09:36 am (UTC)Though, considering we haven't had a young cat in the house for over ten years I think some adjustment will be going on for a while!

Date: 2020-03-08 09:37 am (UTC)I'm excited to have him home, though, having a young cat in the house again will be a change. Ours tend to sleep most of the time and have done for a long while.
