Today has been a day.

Yesterday afternoon we got a phone call to say they'd had a cancellation so instead of next week could the stairlift people come and fit the new stairlift today. We said yes, but would it be done within the morning as James had an appointment at work at 1 pm he had to go to, they said yes.

The man came this morning, took out the old stairlift and gah, the mess under the track. Because of the design which meant the track was right against the treads there was 15 years of dust and grime under there. While he was working the power went off. I thought it was him, but nope, the whole of the estate was off. Then, it turned out he was only there for half the job and another man was coming to finish the fitting and he wouldn't be here until at least early afternoon.

Thankfully our neighbour was going to be in and agreed to hand over the key to the second man when he arrived, we locked the cats in the bedroom and had to leave a note saying the power was still off, cats were locked away and hopefully, we'd be back before he was finished.

Then, headed to James' meeting which was pretty serious as it was with the doctor first, then a group meeting with the doctor, line boss and HR lady. They went through everything that has happened to James lately, and all I can say is, I'm glad that the doctor is on his side because she stood up for him big time, up to and including stating that if he has more issues that mean he has to come off the phones again, it's up to his work to either work with him to reduce hours or find alternative duties. He's back on a very careful phased return from Sunday and I really hope it goes well because this very much is the last chance in terms of staying on the phones. Part-time work is a possibility and shouldn't mean too much of a drop -- we hope -- once working tax credits kick in, but he doesn't want to go in that direction yet. But, it's reassuring it is an option.

Left there, with James feeling much better and admitting he'd been half expecting to be sacked, came home and caught the stair lift man who was just leaving. So, he came back with us to the house and the new stairlift is lovely. Such a better design, and one you can clean under the track. Plus, the electric was back on which was fantastic.

Plus, I've been working like crazy on survey and testing sites lately to get extra money and I found out earlier one of the payments was agreed, so within a few days, I'll have £118 to pay toward one of the bills. So that's good news and makes all those damn tests and surveys worth it.

I’m glad the stair lift is sorted but that’s so annoying it had to be done like that.

I’m glad his doctor is backing him up, that must be a relief. Good luck!

Oh wow that’s an awesome payment to get, you’ll have to let me know what they are

That sounds like a horribly intense set of things to happen all in one day! It sounds good that the new stairlift is in place, despite the hassle of making that happen. And I'm very glad to hear that the work meetings are done and the doctor made the boss see the light. Fingers crossed for things to go smoothly on Sunday and after.

Cripes, that sounds like a day and a half!

So glad the stairlift is in! And that the work meeting ended up well, though it must have been horribly intimidating with all those people there. It's really good the doctor is backing James up.

What an ordeal.

I'm so relieved that the doctor fought for James! Way too many unsympathetic doctors out there!
