Jun. 9th, 2020 03:03 pmJust had a call from the vet and Milo has come out of his op fine. I'll cut for some medical details.
The receptionist phoned a while back and asked if I would accept her friend request on FB as that was the easiest way to send photos and a video of something that vet needed to talk about. So I said yes, and omg wished I hadn't when I saw the video. But, actually, it was good to see as I did know what Sarah meant when she phoned. It turns out Milo has somehow knocked one of his front bottom teeth out, meaning his jaw moved in a weird way, so much so when I first saw the video I thought it was broken. Sarah says it's not a big deal and will heal but still, it was horrible to see.
She also said it's a classic outdoor cat injury where they bang their chin falling out of trees, but as Milo never goes out, goodness knows how he did it.
But it was mostly good news. Only two small molars needed to be taken out and he had a patch of bad tartar that needed cleaning that could have been rubbing on his gum and causing pain. His ears have been cleaned and his kidney levels checked and his kidney disease is still controlled, and in fact, his levels are actually better than before. His liver levels are elevated but that's nothing to worry about just now, more a case of watch and see. He's also put on weight which is great.
We can pick him up at 5:30 as he still needs more fluids to flush out all the drugs, but right now he's comfortable and man, I'm so relieved.
I can't wait until he's home so he can ignore me and hate my very existence for putting him in a cage again and sending him away.
The June Something.
Is there any fandom that you regret getting into?
Not really. I'd say 99% of my fannish experience has been positive. I'm incredibly lucky to have been surrounded by fantastic people some of whom have been online friends for over 20 years now.
If pushed for an answer I could say Mutant X, but only for very specific reasons as mostly my time in that fandom was excellent. However, a few things were negative, but I'm only going to talk about the negative in terms of me. I was still a relatively new writer at the time, and I had this amazing cheerleader who would urge me on to write, including wanting me to write for a zine. The problem was, I was an enthusiastic newbie writer that really needed a good beta and someone to help me tone down the melodrama. Most of you will know my fic loves and while I can self edit now, back then I'd just go for it and wrote cliched DRAMA! and ANGST! and really needed someone to reign me in. Thankfully I did find such people in later fandoms and I'm a much better writer now, but I still cringe when I think of that zine and if I ever find my copy I'll be tempted to throw it straight in the bin, because man, no way will I ever read it again.
So yeah, a regret for that while stressing that mostly the fandom was fun and I still love the show and characters -- Brennan, you are still fine -- but bb!angsty writer me? Not so good.

Date: 2020-06-09 05:54 pm (UTC)It was on the horror channel. It's a good show, especially the first season. And of course, mutants will always make me happy.

Date: 2020-06-10 03:55 pm (UTC)It's silly but I was worried about Milo being able to eat if he had his teeth out. But thankfully he only lost two, and from what you say he'd have managed just fine even with none. Which is reassuring for the future.

Date: 2020-06-10 03:46 am (UTC)The thing about writing though is that we can't leapfrog the bad writing and skip to the good! We have to do the bad writing first in order to improve. So YAY I am glad you wrote the cliched drama and angst and continued on to where you are now. ♥

Date: 2020-06-10 06:42 am (UTC)That's very true and a good way of looking at it. No one is ever a fantastic writer from the start and as bad as they were, I did have fun writing at the time. It's just a shame about the zine, evidence in printed form *g*

Date: 2020-06-10 05:28 pm (UTC)I can't help giggling a little at your dramatic younger self. We all have to start somewhere with our creative endevours and no-one becomes better without a lot of training. Just thank your lucky star it's a fandom that's pretty much forgotten these days. I've heard people collect old Star Trek fanzines ;-)

Date: 2020-06-11 05:51 pm (UTC)It was the anaesthetic that worried me the most, but you're right, he has weathered it well. He seems much brighter this afternoon, obviously a bit uncomfortable at times and he keeps rubbing his head against surfaces suggesting his mouth may be itchy/aching, but nothing to worry about at all.

Oh man, I'm glad about that. Just the thought that someone would collect, keep and read that zine makes me feel all wrong inside!
