turps: hot as hell (hot as hell)

I was sad to hear Bob the street cat had died. He was such a fantastic personality and I loved his bond with James, his owner.

My James went back to work this morning, so our summer staycation is officially over.

It was nice, very relaxing though we never got further than walks at the beach. The Wetlands did reopen but on a limited ticket basis only, and sadly we were never in time to grab a ticket at a time we could go. We also did some adulting in the last few days. First, getting a start on remortgaging the house, changing from an interest-only to repayment option. Seriously, if I could go back in time I'd tell very young us to first, never take out any loans, especially of the doorstep kind, and no matter the bigger payments, get a repayment mortgage. Thankfully as we bought the house on a right to buy scheme the mortgage isn't that big and we have equity, but if we'd gone for the repayment we'd be heading towards paying it off, not starting over.

Plus, yesterday James was at work for a case meeting to see if anything else could be done for him work-wise. I went along for support and the doctor and section leader was there, and I think some good plans were made. Due to his muscles and joints seizing during the night it takes him a while to get going in the morning so he was finding early shifts hard going, so, the decision was made he can't start any earlier than 10:30 and finish any later than midnight. If that doesn't work out there's the possibility of cutting shift hours down, so he'd only do 8-hour shifts instead of 9 and a half, but that would mean going in more days. Then after that cutting hours completely, but no one wants to work toward that yet, so hopefully this latest change will make a difference.

We also had to go drop my FiLs father's day cards off, go shopping to four different places, drop something off at Kayleigh's and attend the work meeting right in the middle of all that. It meant we weren't home until close to 7 and by the time I got stuff put away and made tea I was dragging and didn't even go in the bath. Which means I've felt a bit grimy all day.

Not helping that was the fact I've been repotting tomato plants and tidying the garden a bit, only stopping when I ran out of compost. Then I had to tackle the work shirts of doom. I have to admit, once I washed them after James finished his last shift before going on annual leave I just left them, so they've been sitting for nearly 3 weeks, which of course made the creases harder to get out. I'd say I've learned my lesson and won't do that again, but really, I think we all know I will.
