I had such a good time at Hamilton last night. We had really good seats, and I was caught up for the whole performance. Just, wow. It's a show I'd watch again for sure.
I did have a tall guy sitting directly in front of me, but as I had a centre aisle seat it was easy enough to see past him. But what did have the potential to spoil things was the woman sitting directly behind me. She obviously loved Hamilton, knew all the words, but had also obviously been drinking before arriving. She wasn't aggressive or anything, but when she lost her vape caused a fuss and was being really loud about finding it, then was extra loud and OTT, saying she wanted to wed him when a man in the row behind her actually did find it.
She kept kicking my seat, and singing along with the show, until one of the ushers had to come to tell her to quieten down as people wanted to hear the performers not her. She was quiet then, but then had to be warned again in the second half, this time being asked to come have a word away from the seats, and that time didn't come back.

Challenge #2
Tunnel of Love
Journaling: The romance of summer! What do you love? Write about anything you feel sentimental about or that gets your heart pumping.
Creative: Write a love poem to anyone or anything you like
Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I saw this challenge last night and had been thinking what to reply, because I love lots of things. My husband, my son, my family and friends, cats, the beach, the theatre, the cinema, over priced coffees,Christmas films, the list goes on. Then I got a comment about an old fic and I realised what I could focus on, especially as it nails the sentimental part.
The comment was about my Nsync fic, What It Says On the Can, and therefore, my answer will be popslash.
Popslash was my first huge fandom, and the one where I established myself as an active participant. I wrote, I commented, I ran challenges and community groups. I loved those sparkly dancing boys and repeatedly watched footage and videos, collected Njunk, lost my heart to Chris Kirkpatrick and mostly, for 99% of the time had a load of fun.
But what stands out from that wasn't just the fic, which was often cracktastic, it was the friends I made, many of whom are still around a million years later, which always amazes me. Some people say that fandom friends aren't real friends, and yet here I am, still following along with the lives of people I've known for what seems like forever.
Some I only know via online interactions, but others, I've stopped in their houses, they've stopped at mine, we've met up in cat cafes, local restaurants and at the beach, and then of course, Camp Sparkle. That will always be special, something that changed over time, late pixi stix fuelled nights that changed into earlier nights and away from a tight focus on the SDBs to wider fandoms. But always at the heart, a group of people who found each other via popslash.
Death by Chocolate cake, plastic tiaras in my hair, Nsync marionettes hidden in various places, laughter, the Lava Lamp story read in so many locations, most notable, from a pulpit high above the couches on the floor below.
Years worth of SeSa challenges and smush names, of great fic and great people. The fandom may be pretty much dead now, but the memories remain. Popslash, I love you ♥

Date: 2025-07-06 12:54 pm (UTC)Yes, I think many of us will keep our PopSlash love shining forever. It was a magical time, for sure. There are still stories I want to read or re-read (and I still need to post the rest of mine to AO3). Perhaps one day. It's such a shame the Fandom was before AO3, and so many truly fantastic stories have been lost forever. But there are still some good ones posted, plenty around to enjoy, still.

Date: 2025-07-06 02:51 pm (UTC)I agree, and that's what the woman was told by the usher the first time, that people wanted to hear the actual performers and not her singing. I totally get enjoying yourself and wanting to sing, but there's a time and place, and that wasn't it. They did give her plenty of chances, including the suggestion to go drink water in the interval, but it obviously didn't help.
It's weird to think that popslash was before A03, but you're right again, so many stories have been lost to time. It's such a shame, especially with the holiday challenges because so much great fic was posted.
But yeah, still lots out there, and it's always a pleasure when someone finds my popslash stuff and sends an unexpected comment.

Date: 2025-07-06 03:17 pm (UTC)Like, I was super excited and stimming when I went to see Six, but I was super super careful to only be singing along under my breath because the people around me were there to hear the Queens, not me.
Fandom love, the people we meet there... people outside of it really have no concept of how incredible it can be. I've met pretty much everyone in my life through fandom (including Li) and it's just. it's love for sure!

Date: 2025-07-06 03:32 pm (UTC)Yes, it really is love. It's funny, so many people have made comments like 'what if they're an axe murderer?' when I've gone off to meet fannish friends, but all that has happened is, I've met people who just get it, and that's fantastic.

Date: 2025-07-07 06:42 am (UTC)Ah, thank you. I suspect popslash and then bandom will always be my huge significant fandoms. And it really does amaze me that so many of the people I met through popslash are still around ♥

Date: 2025-07-09 05:05 pm (UTC)Popslash was my becoming-active fandom too and yes, it's the people I met that will always stand out! Like you! And all the Camp Sparklers that became Friends Who Have Fun at Random Places in the UK Together (Almost) Every Year!
I will always maintain that popslash had the only acceptable pairing names!

Date: 2025-07-11 12:55 pm (UTC)She was extremely irritating. I get enthusiasm, hell, I love fannish squee, but when you're in a theatre you don't sing really loudly or make a fuss if you've lost your vape.
Popslash was such a good becoming active fandom, as people were so friendly. It was easy to communicate and become friends ♥
I agree about the pairing names, I don't tend to use them for other fandoms, and yet in popslash the smush names seem right.
